Thanks for your help, but I still get the same error. It doesn't make sense to me that I can login to the drive in the finder, but trying to login to it in time machine I get the error. Is it a problem with time machine or keychain? I'm thinking that I didn't have a problem on my other mac, that it is the keychain on this mac, but the disk permission repair should have fixed that, right?

i kept getting all the same errors and i just figured it out. after getting an iphone i went from pure excitment to anger as i plugged it in and realized i needed to upgrade to tiger. then i spent over an hour installing tiger and it still didnt work. i got the same itunes error of not recognizing. HERE IS THE FIX....TURN OFF THE IPHONE AND REMOVE FROM THE DOCK. DONT JUST PUT IT TO SLEEP, HOLD DOWN THE BUTTON UNTIL IT ASKS YOU TO SLIDE TO TURN OFF. THEN CLOSE ITUNES. Try to go to Settings and then Store. Tap to your Apple ID and select View Apple ID. Now choose to check your payment information and when you're done tap Done. I had to rewrite my three digit code of the credit card and now it works.
Oh, I also activated Genius for Apps but I don't think it makes any difference.

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.

Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get itunes to launch properly afterwards?

I was the one who set up the Photo Stream and sent the link to myself. I called Apple and they said I did everything right and the server must be temporarily down, but it has been the same for the better part of a day.

None of the fixes above worked for me. Continued getting the "try again" error message.
Tryed a bunch of things, such as going directly to icloud on Safari to open the mail message, no luck.
Tryed the following;
Went to iCloud and logged in via Safari, clicked on my account name in top right corner, selected "Advanced" on drop down menu, and selected "Reset Photo Stream".
Turned off Photo Stream on all devices and iPhoto.
Turned on Shared Photo Stream option on Mac iCloud preferences.
Tried the "Join This Photo Stream" button in my Mac Mail app .me account again.
Still got the error message.
Forwarded the original mail message to a yahoo account, selected "Join this Photo Stream" in the yahoo account mail (still in my Mac Mail app), and lo and behold, iPhoto opened and displayed the photos.
Could be this would have worked right from the start.
Oh yea, still get the "try again" message if I click on the Photo Stream button in my .me account.

I would get an external drive today and copy all your stuff off the TC.. forget trying to load more onto it. There is a good chance after 3years (A 2TB should be only about 2years tops), the disk or the TC itself is on the way out. Do it immediately. If TM is also failing to backup you need to recognise symtoms of impending doom.
Unfortunately the error messages are archane and it is hard to discover their meaning.
You also cannot verify a network drive.. you can verify the TM sparsebundle though so do that.

Reboot the whole network from off.. certainly if you run later OS it can simply lose the drive..
If you still fail to be able to copy to the TC.. then get that external and copy off it. Tell us if you can do that.

Make sure that no other Macs are backing up at the time.
Pull the power cable from the back of the Time Capsule
Count to ten
Plug the power cable back into the back of the Tme Capsule
Wait a few minutes, then try a backup again.

I may have already resolved this issue buy removing the device from my computer and re-pairing it. It is currently working just fine.
