I got a MacBook in August 2009 what do I need to make it comptable with my iPhone 5

I got a MacBook in August 2009 what softwares do I need to make it comptable with my iPhone 5 like what iOS programs like do I just need mountain lion or do I need all the recent ones or will just the latest one do

Hi ...
You need to upgrade your Mac OS X so you can run the latest version of iTunes for  iOS compatibiity.
First, you need to upgrade to Snow Leopard >  Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard - Technical Specifications
Snow Leopard is available from the Apple online store >  Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store
Once you have Snow Leopard installed you will have access to the App Store where you can purchase v10.8 Mountain Lion If your Mac meets v10.8 Mountain Lion requirements >  System requirements for OS X Mountain Lion
You can upgrade directly from v10.6 Snow Leopard to v10.8 Mountain Lion without having to purchase v10.7 Lion.

i see that i have a problem after installing my new hard drive on my macbook pro mid 2009 version. I put a new hard drive, with all of my information from my old drive installed on it, into the computer. but now have the blinking question mark folder. I see that it means that it isn't reading the new hard drive.
did i miss a step between transferring all of my information from my old hard drive to the new hard drive and installing the new hard drive into the computer. I believe that i installed properly. it was quite easy.
    thanks for your help

It means there is no bootable system on the drive. If you still have access to the old drive, then I suggest you boot from it then clone it to the new internal drive. Use OPTION boot to boot from the Recovery HD on the old drive:
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
         1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
             button.
         2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
         3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
         4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
             to the Destination entry field.
         5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
             the Source entry field.
         6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Source means the external old drive. Destination means the new internal drive.

  • HT3006 what do i need to make my emac wifi seeing i cant buy an adapter as most have cd to download

what do i need to make my emac wifi capable seeing i cant buy an adapter seeing they come with a cd to download

Another option, if your eMac has USB 2.0 is a USB plug in WiFi adapter.
This will have software that's needed for this device to be recognized and work, also.
It maybe software on CD or a download from a website.
Do a search for USB WiFi adapters Mac OS X.
    On another note:
Can't believe we still can't edit posts on iOS mobile devices, like the iPad.
It's a pain to have to go back to my Mac if I make a major editing issue.
I wish they would fix this issue, already.

hi, i want to bulid training course before we deploy iphone in my bussiness what can i sue to make screen capture and connect iphone 4 or 4s to a projector in a classroom.thanks

Your iPhone is probably locked to your former cell carrier. In such case only that carrier can unlock it, so you'll need to contact the carrier. Note that unless things have changed recently only 3 offers unlocking. If you used a different carrier, they do not appear to offer unlocking which means that your son will not be able to use your old iPhone. But call your carrier and ask.
    Regards.

  • What will I need to make a successful conversion from Quark 8.5 with Autoprice to InDesign?

We have Quark 8.5 and the operating system version: iMac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549) - Kernel Version: Darwin 10.8.0, and two graphic designers.
We use AutoPrice to import Prices, Model Numbers, and Shipping symbols among other things.
What will I need to convert our Quark files, while preserving our data tags for data import?
Will I need a hardware upgrade to be successful?  If so what would you suggest?
We are a small company without an unlimited budget.
Any advice, suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated
Are there other options that we should consider?
What are some of the critical decisions or thinking points we should consider?
Can you suggest some resources that would help me make this decision?
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Remember there are several flavors of HD including HDV, DVCProHD and AVCHD.
Otherwise, export current settings audio and video self contained.
Drop it into Compressor and elect the DVD 16:9 preset for the length of the movie in total minutes. Choose ac3 audio.
    Encode.
Elect the HD DVD preset after launching DVD SP.
Take the m2v and ac3 files and import them into DVD SP 4.1.2 or DVD SP 4.2
Burn to a red laser dye DVD5 disk. You can get about 40 minutes of DVCProHD on each one.
Play in a Toshiba HD DVD A-1 set top with the latest firmware.

What is the best printer for wireless printing witth the iPhone?

Roaminggnome has the list......pick on of those TERRIBLE printers and go for it....
I hope Apple see fit to broaden this list, because, having thrown away several of those brands in my life, I now have a network compatble BROTHER printer that's awesome,

  • What devices I need to separate 2 networks with just 1 ISP?

    Hi.
I have 1 ISP for my business, but now I want to share that connection with my customers(WI-FI), but I dont want my customers to reach my computers, I want to separate my lans.
                                             ------ lan 1  --- computers business
                                            |   dhcp 192.168.2.0  Wired
    WEB -- ISP --Router/Gateway
                                            |
                                             ------ lan 2  --- my clients wi-fi
                                                dhcp 10.0.8.0
This is my goal.  Now reading about, I need a device vlan capable to separate my networks?
I see a lot of VLAN capable products from linksys, If Im right what devices I need to purchase to acomplish this?
Or what u recommend me ?
      Thanks all for your help!!

Usually, the best way to do this is using two routers, like this:
    Modem--wireless router--wired router
                  10.0.8.1           192.168.2.1  (Local IP address)
Using ethernet cable, connect modem to Internet port of wireless router.
Using ethernet cable, connect any LAN port of the wireless router, to the Internet port of the wired router.
To help prevent your customers from breaking into each others computers, in the wireless router, set "AP isolation" to "enabled".  This will allow your wireless customers to only access the Internet, and not each other.  However, if you want your customers to be able to use a printer that is connected to the wireless router, you will need to leave "AP isolation" set to "disabled".

  • I am Making the Switch: Vaio to Macbook... What do I need to Know?

So I am moving over to a mac
My vaio has been a great machine, but i dropped it last week, so the data is being pulled right now and I have been looking for a replacement.
I decided on the 15" Macbook Pro...
    250GB
    4 GB RAM
    2.6GHZ INTEL duo
    so i need a few tips ...
like what software will i need to get?
Should I get "parallel" so i can run XP?
What about the data from my vaio? the tech says he still pulling it from a week ago since there are a lot of "damaged sectors"
oh - and is there a way to run HDMI from a mac to my plasma when i download movies?
and what kind of virus software should i run on a mac, espcially since i will also install XP so i can operate windows programs ...
so please talk to me like im 5 and tell me if this software (below) is standard on a Macbook or if these are added perks
    1. Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard
    a. Time Machine
    b. Quick Look
    c. Spaces
    d. Spotlight
    e. Dashboard
    f. Mail
    g. iChat
    h. Safari
    i. Address Book
    j. QuickTime
    k. iCal
    l. DVD Player
    m. Photo Booth
    n. Front Row
    o. Xcode Developer Tools
    2. iLife '09
    a. iTunes
    b. iPhoto
    c. iMovie
    d. iDVD
    e. iWeb
    f. GarageBand

With the one exception that your computer will come with OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard) rather than 10.5 Leopard, all of the software you mention comes with the Mac.
As far as virus protection is concerned, on the Windows side, especially if operating under Boot Camp, you should run whatever you would normally choose for Windows. On the Mac side virus checkers generally cause more trouble (a fair bit) than they are worth (next to nothing), but if you feel you really need it then ClamX is the least problematic and cheapest (its free) option.
Yes you can run movies on your HDMI TV from the MBP. You will need either a Mini Display port to DVI adaptor and a DVI to HDMI cable, a Mini Display Port to HDMI adapator and an HDMI to HDMI cable, together with an appropriate sound cable from the headphone socket to a sound input on the TV OR one of the new "combined" cables, like the one at http://kanexlive.com/products/item.aspx?id=3495 which includes all the necessary connections in one .
    Cheers

Question (?) Mark, Blinking Folder, or Gray Screen at Startup
These are related but not identical issues. Their causes are outlined in Intel-based Mac- Startup sequence and error codes, symbols. Solutions may be found in:
A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac
Mac OS X- Gray screen appears during startup
In most cases the problems may be caused by:
Problem with the computer's PRAM - See Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM.
Boot drive's directory has been corrupted - Repair with Disk Utility.
Critical system files are damaged or deleted - Reinstall OS X.
The disk drive is physically non-functional - Replace the hard drive.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
The main difference if you are using Lion or Mountain Lion is that you must first boot from the Recovery HD:
    Boot From The Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstall Snow Leopard Without Erasing The drive
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing The Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • What do I need to make a bootable external disk?

I got a response from Apple support that said I could make an external disk a bootable one, like a flash drive or ext hard disk, by using an OS X Installer app that was supposed to be available at the Mac App Store.  I looked and couldn't find it.  Since we no longer get a hard-copy of the system install disk, I was trying to figure out what to do to make a 500Gb external disk one I could boot using the MacBook Air with its limited GB storage.
So if anyone can give me the simple solution I'd appreciate it.

Get an external disk drive. Start by partitioning and formatting it:
    Drive Partition and Format
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Next, clone your existing system disk to the external one:
Clone Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
    Test the new clone by:
    Boot Using OPTION key:
      1. Restart the computer.
      2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the
          "OPTION" key.
      3. Release the key when the boot manager appears.
      4. Select the external disk's icon.
      5. Click on the arrow button below the icon.

  • What do I need to make 32bit games play on x86-64 with intel gm965?

I have been trying to get a bunch of 32bit games to play on x86-64 with no luck.
Ive tried quake4, prey, and now doom3 and all seem to have the same issues. They start to work and the screen goes black, then it just goes right back to the desktop.
I have installed the entire lib32 group, and still no luck.  I even tried install lib32-intel-dri from aur but still no luck.
Do I still use lib32-nvidia-utils with an intel chipset, because thats what gets installed by default when i install the lib32 group?
Here is the output from doom3 (quake4, and prey had a very similar output where they all said idRenderSystem::Shutdown() but I already removed the packages out of frustration so I dont have the outputs from them, Im pretty sure its probably the same exact problem with all of them though)

Dump lib32, get a 32-bit chroot, and run with schroot -p "your game"
Within your chroot you'd need to have the intel drivers installed in a version exactly matching your main system's. It takes a bit more HD space (less than 1 GB), but you get a much easier system since you're using the packages maintained in the repos by devs/TUs instead of lib32 packages maintained (primarily) by volunteers for their own specific system.

  • What do I need to make my iMac + xbox 360 hook up to my current router

I need to find a way to make my iMac wireless and don't know what would be best for my set up. I have cable broadband through a rca router, which then hooks up to my vonage phone device, which then connects to my linksys WRT150N which has an emachines pc through ethernet and a sony laptop wireless connected to it. I want the iMac, which is downstairs to be hooked up to the internet wirelessly if possible and my son also has a wireless adapter for his XBOX 360 that he wants to use as well. I know this sounds tres' complicated and I have given lots of information here but if anyone knows what I should get for this situation, I would be most appreciative! Airport of some sort? Third party stuff that's compatible? I am so confused!

Achieving data rates of 54 Mbps requires that all users have an AirPort Extreme Card and connect to an AirPort Extreme Base Station. If a user of a Wi-Fi Certified 802.11b product joins the network, that user will get up to 11 Mbps and AirPort Extreme users will get less than 54 Mbps. Actual speed will vary based on range, connection rate, site conditions, size of network and other factors.
imac specification I am guessing your imac g4 is usb 2 and requires an airport extreme wireless card.
The xbox360 wireless adaptor should be able to connect to your router.
To enable the imac to stream photos, movies, music to xbox360 you'll need a piece of software called Connect360. you get that here: http://www.nullriver.com/products/connect360
I'll give you my network setup if yours fails.
Two Apple Extreme N routers, First router hardwired to cable modem and the "bridged" second apple router. The first router also has a HP laserjet 24/7 connected to its usb port and one more hardwire to a pc laptor downstairs(no wireless card in the piece of crap windows machine). Second router hard waired to Vonage and an Apple Express router which I set up to create its own network. The xbox360 upstairs wirelessly connects to the Apple Express. I also have apple TV wireless to first apple Extreme router. Everything works fine and network is extremely fast.
