I got a message saying that iPhoto is broken and to delete it & re-install it from the app store

Then, I deleted it like it said and went the app store, and it wanted to charge me the regular $15. Is there any way to get around this?

What version of iPhoto are you using now?  This screenshot shows which previous versions of iPhoto are compatible with Mavericks.  It also indicates which versions qualify for a free upgrade to iPhoto 9.5.1 and which require a purchase:
Note 1:  every day more users are reporting problems with iPhoto 8.1.2 so I've included it in the non compatible category.
Note 2:  If your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application on the library before opening it with iPhoto 9.5.1.

  • I am trying to download an app that needs 501 MB and my iPod has over 1 GB, but the App Store says that I do not have enough memory left.

I am trying to download an app that needs 501 MB and my iPod has over 1 GB, but the App Store says that I do not have enough memory left.

    Do you have a question?
    That sounds right.
Most apps require more than double the size of the app available in order for installation.
    Make more room.

Are yoy sure that Apeture is not in the Applications folder of the new system? If it is move it to the trash and the App Store will let you download Aperture from it.
You will need to make sure you use the same Apple ID you used to purchase it in the past.

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store notice. For example, if the App Store says you need to update "Twitter," the hacked app may be "Angry Birds" or something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you have to carry out a systematic search.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
In the Finder, press the key combination command-F to open a search window, or select
    File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
    Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu initially showing Kind. From that menu, select  Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select Raw Query and click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of popup menu. Click in that box and paste (command-V).
The search window will show all the App Store products you've installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
At least one of the items listed in the search window is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Test.

  • I have an IMAC and purchased OS X Lion to upgrade from the APP store, and launched the software for downloading, and I have been waiting on this for an hour, and it still says it's downloading? What do I do next?

I have an IMAC and purchased OS X Lion to upgrade from the APP store, and launched the software for downloading, and I have been waiting on this for an hour, and it still says it's downloading? What do I do next?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The OS X Lion installer takes more than 4 GB of space, so it is normal for most Internet connections to take the download more than an hour.
If you want to see the download progress, open the Mac App Store and go to Purchases.
Before upgrading, make a backup of your files with Time Machine and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com

  • I have Snow leopard, 10.6.8 on my iMac, I just tried to install Lion from the App store, but during proces, the install stops after one minute saying: "software might be damaged". I downloaded the software again, same thing. What must I do to install Lion

I have Snow leopard, 10.6.8 on my iMac, I just tried to install Lion from the App store, but during proces, the install stops after one minute saying: "software might be damaged". I downloaded the software again, same thing. What must I do to install Lion? I have still 487GB free.

Quit all other programs and open Disk Utility
Select your "MacintoshHD" drive on the left and indented and click Erase > Erase Free Space > Zero and let it complete.
Also run First Aid > Repair Disk and permisisons.
If Repair disk gives a error, you have a bigger problem, if repair permisisons fixes and completes, even if it fixes the same thing twice if you click it again, it's ok. Apple just changed things.
You should be able to download the file sucessfully this time, if not, take it to another location with better/faster internet.
If not then run through this list
Step by Step to fix your Mac

  • Iphoto won't update because i didn't "purchase" it from the app store- but it came on my computer summer '11

I bought an imac that came with Lion on it and all the usual mac apps.  Now the app store wont let me update it until i purchase it?  why would i need to purchase something i already own?  Is there any way around this?

If you got disks with your system then you use software update to update. If you purchased the software from to app store or it came pre installed with no disks the you get updates via the app store under purchased software.
    Upgrades must always be purchased

  • Even before I opened Firefox, I got a message saying that Firefox was open and it had to be closed or I had to restart my computer; what can be done to resolve this problem?

This is a continual problem. Even when I close Firefox and try to access it again, it takes minutes before I can access it again. Today was the first time that I received the window saying that another window of Firefox had to be closed before I could access Firefox when I hadn't even tried to access it to begin with. I don't want to have to restart my computer every time I try to access Firefox each day. Please help!

    [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#close_firefox Item #38]: (#close_firefox)
:<b>Closing Firefox</b>, avoid getting <b>Firefox already running</b> messages:&nbsp; To properly shutdown Firefox when multiple windows or closing the last window use File → Exit/Quit (or Firefox button → Exit).&nbsp; Closing Firefox with the [X] in the upper right corner closes the window ("Ctrl+W") but that does not necessarily close Firefox if it has subtasks running.&nbsp; If you want to close and reopen Firefox use the "Restart" within Add-ons if you made a change requiring a restart, or install "[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/restartless-restart/ Restartless Restart]" ("Ctrl+Alt+R") which will allow you to take Firefox down and restart without having to check the Windows Task Manager to see if Firefox first actually ended. (See [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_hangs Firefox hangs])
Closing Firefox properly will not completely eliminate having to use the Windows Task Manager to close Firefox on Windows but it will certainly reduce the need to use it often.

You can make '''Firefox 6.0.2''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)]. There is a lot more beyond those first 10 steps listed, if you want to make Firefox more functional.

  • I tried do install mavericks from the App Store. Then a error message came up saying: an error has occured

Any way I can get mavericks ???

Did the error message show up when you began the installation or when downloading? If during installation, you may have the installation app in your Applications folder -> file name is "Install Mac OS Mavericks.app".
If the download failed you can attempt to resume it or, if that doesn't show up as an option, you can try to download again.
Note that before Mavericks begins an installation, it checks your hard drive to see if there are any errors on the drive and, if there are, you'll get an error message. If you go through the installation again, write down the specific error message.
    Good luck,

  • Do you need a sim card for the iPad 3G and when I try to download something from the app store my screen has a black box appear is that normal and why is this happening?

My app store does not let me download things , when I sghn in a black box appers , also does a iPad 1 3G need a sim card to download apps ?

You posted in the iPod Shuffle forum; it might be best to post in the iPad forum, as I was a bit confused at first. Anyway,
It doesn't need a SIM to download apps if you have Wi-Fi. Can you describe this box a little more, or better yet, screenshot it?
    Taking a Screenshot:
Quickly press then release the home and power buttons at the same time.
Get the photo on your computer and upload it here.
If you don't want to do this, can you describe it a little more? When you say "black box," I'm guessing it's an outlined box that appears around any item that you tap on. Is this correct? If so, it sounds like VoiceOver was enabled. See:

Make sure you are using the same Apple ID used for the original download of both apps.
