I got a new computer- how do I avoid losing contacts/texts on a new sync?

Hi everyone.
I got a new computer for the holidays. I've Googled articles all night and have still not found the answer I'm looking for. I even called Apple and they couldn't help. Or maybe the service representative was just a dud. Anyway, the issue is that I get the "erase and sync" option when I attempt to sync my iPhone to my new computer. All I am worried about saving are contacts, texts, and apps. I don't have music on my phone. So, here are my concerns:
1.) Contacts- they are saved to my Google Contacts. However, I use Google Sync. So, if I erase the data on my phone, wouldn't my Google Contacts be history?
2.) Texts- Can these even transfer over somehow?
3.) Apps- I did the "transfer purchases" option but only some of the apps came over to my new system. Some of them were paid apps and some were free, so I can't even figure that one out.
4.) Backup- Yes, I have backed up my iPhone to my old computer. But, once I do any kind of syncing to the new computer, if I needed to utilize my backup, how would I do it since the backup would exist on the old system?
ANY help would be much appreciated. I'm ready to pull my hair out!
Thanks!

Although contacts are included with your iPhone's backup, contacts are designed to be synced with a supported application on your computer.
2.) Texts- Can these even transfer over somehow?
Texts are also included with your iPhone's backup.
3.) Apps- I did the "transfer purchases" option but only some of the apps came over to my new system. Some of them were paid apps and some were free, so I can't even figure that one out.
Did you authorize your new computer with your iTunes account with iTunes. You can transfer your iTunes library from your old computer to your new computer along with any other data that you will need or want to access on your new computer. If not, you can re-download an app with iTunes on your new computer and you won't be charged again for a purchased app as long as you use the same iTunes account to re-download the app that was used to purchase the app originally.
4.) Backup- Yes, I have backed up my iPhone to my old computer. But, once I do any kind of syncing to the new computer, if I needed to utilize my backup, how would I do it since the backup would exist on the old system?
With your iPhone connected to iTunes on your new computer, right-click (Windows) on your iPhone in the iTunes source list (control-click with a Mac) and at the menu window that appears, select Back Up.
In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced or manually managed with an iTunes library on a single computer only, and photos can be transferred from a single computer only. When transferring iTunes content and photos from another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPhone first. This does not erase anything else on the iPhone including texts and contacts. Contacts on the iPhone won't be touched unless you select to sync contacts with a supported application on your computer.

Pictures/Videos in your camera roll? If so, & not backed up or imported to your computer, they are gone. There's no supported way to recover them now.

  • How can I avoid losing purchases made with an old Apple ID when I authorize my MacBook Pro under my current Apple ID?

I am very confused!!  When I first used iTunes, I did not own any Apple products.  When I purchased my MacBook Pro and a Mobile Me subscription a few years ago, my email address @me.com became my new Apple ID.  I subsequently purchased an iPhone 3 and eventually an iPhone 4.  Apparently over this time, I have used both Apple IDs at various times.  Sometimes when I upgrade apps, the old ID will already be filled in and other times the new one will be instead.  I always use whichever one is there with the appropriate password.  This was probably a mistake.  I just realized that my MBPro is authorized under the original Apple ID and not the current one.  I tried to authorize it under the current Apple ID, but couldn't, so I was going to deauthorize it from the old one, but got a message about losing any purchases made with the original Apple ID.  I don't want that to happen.  Synching my iPhone in iTunes with my computer has been much more confusing since I got my newer iPhone. However, I don't remember anything about the process I went through to associate it with my iTunes account.  Any helpful suggestions are appreciated.

Log into the store using the old Apple ID to re-download them, however, you can not switch them into your current Apple ID except by re-purchasing. You can contact Apple support and see if they are able to help you.

  • How to i get my contacts on my phone to sync into my address book on my macbook?

i synced my phone to my macbook and the newer contacts wont show up in the addressbook on the laptop. how do i make them sync to the address book from my phone?

What Operating System is your Macbook running? If it's Lion, then you can go into the iCloud control panel in System Preferences, sign in with your Apple ID, and check "Contacts". Then it should sync with your iPhone contacts.
Oh, and make sure your phone is set up with iCloud as well. Of course, only if your Mac is running Lion.

  • Just switched from Windows to Mac, how do I back my contacts, texts etc.?

I've been synching my iPhone to my Windows XP laptop for over a year for everything. I have backups of my phone on my Windows laptop which came in handy when I got a replacement iPhone and put all the contacts, texts etc. from my old one onto the new one.
I recently bought a new Macbook because my old laptop was dying on me. I don't want to sync my phone with 2 computers at the same time, I want my Macbook to be what I use for everything. Using an external HD I transfered all my music and videos over to the Macbook, and they're good to go in iTunes.
When I connect my iPhone to the Macbook, it doesn't give me an option to create a backup of the phone. This is very important if my phone ever decides to die and I get another one and easily sync it back with iTunes. If I decide to restore the phone with the Macbook, will it create a backup before it wipes it?

    rebel1568,
All Photoshop versions through CS6 came with platform-specific licenses, either Windows or PC.  You could get a cross-grade of platform swap at a nominal cost but not for older versions, only for whatever Photoshop versions was current at the time.
CS3 is totally out of the upgrade or cross-grade loop.  You'd have to buy a new license for CS6 Mac or subscribe to Photoshop CC, as Trevor points out.
Curt Y is correct in that CS2 will not run on current Mac-Intel machines.  You would need a used Mac G5 or G4 with a PowerPC (IBM) CPU, which have been obsolete since mid 2006.
Of course, you could run your Windows  on your Mac if you installed and ran BootCamp or Parallells.

  • New Computer-How do i avoid contact data loss?

I recently bought a new laptop and have yet to find an answer for my issue on here. I do not use any thrid party software for managing my iPhone contacts. I just want to be able to retire my old computer, and not have to sync on it. What do I do to ensure that my contacts do not get lost? I've imported all my music, and have no worries about my apps. Any help is appreciated!

If you have a least one unique contact in whatever supported application you use for that purpose on your computer(Outlook, Windows Address Book), when you sync that will generate a "merge" or "replace" prompt regarding your contacts. Select merge. To insure you get that prompt, disable auto sync when an iphone/ipod is connected under preferences in itunes. In Windows, this is under the edit menu. Connect your phone, itunes running, & right click the phone in the device pane & select "Reset Warnings". The important point to remember is that you do not want to sync to any empty address book. The entry can be fake, that doesn't matter, but make sure you have at least one.

  • How to edit i phone contacts on computer, how to edit i phone contacts on computer, how to edit i phone contacts on computer

How do you edit your I phone contacts on a computer?

If you are syncing via iCloud, then you can go to www.icloud.com and make edits that will sync momentarily to your device.
Or, edit the contacts in your computer, then use iCloud Control Panel or iTunes to sync the changes.

  • How do I stop dulicate contacts being created everytime I sync with Goggle?

    Hi Everybody,
Newbie to this forum so bear with me.
I started with no contacts on Google and 84 on my iPhone4 16GB. Sync'd with Google, after two sysncs I have 207 contacts on the iPhone and Google, most of which are dulicates of the original 84.
NOTE: I did not edit any contacts between syncs.
NOTE: 207 is not a multiple of 84, each time I sync, certain of the contacts are duplicated, not all of them. I have one contact that is just a name, no other information. It has been duplicated every sync.
I am syncing to Google via iTunes (10.3.1.55) on a Windows XP (Service Pack 3) laptop.
         Sincerely R A Evans
P.S I don't know how to find the OS on the iPhone. It's brand new though.

deselect what you don't want on your iDevice in iTunes. more information here.

  • How Can I Avoid Losing Cross-References?

We have multiple .book files that contain multiple .fm files, many of which contain cross references. Is it possible to work with those files outside of their network location (i.e from a flash drive) without losing the cross references? My employees frequently take work home or work remotely; however, we do not have remote access to our network, so they either e-mail the necessary .fm files or save them to a flash drive to work from. But when they return to the office and "save as" those files, the cross references become unresolved. Is there a way to avoid this?

    > They are taking single .fm files home with them ...
    How are they "taking" them?
    Safe way:
Save and close all files on the office system.
Use file browser or command line to copy the files of interest to the transport medium.
Open the files at home, edit. Do not attempt to fix any broken Xrefs.
Save in place at home (not to transport medium)
    Copy to transport medium.
This preserves the original filepath references, which should survive the trip even though unresolved at home.
    Fail ways:
Save to transport medium at office, and.or
Save to transport medium at home.
Doing this re-writes the Xref filepaths relative to the current directory hierarchy. Unless you mimic the office tree at home, doing either of the above will make some or all Xrefs unresolved.
When you save an FM document to a new filepath, it revises the <XrefSrcFile 'filepath'> data structures to point to the new locations of Xrefs (and other imported content) relative to the new location. If you don't want this to happen (sometimes you do, sometimes you don't), then copy or move the closed document.

  • How do I avoid losing Notes from iPhone4 syncing to Mac OS X 7?

Notes created on my iPhone 4 used to appear in Mail4.6 Inbox after syncing to my Macbook2,1 running MaxOSX10.6.8.
Some Notes did not appear in Mail4.6 after syncing.
When I upgraded iPhone4 to iOS6 all my Notes disappeared on iPhone4.
    I restored them from Mail4.6.
Now they've disappeared from Mail4.6. Is it because I upgraded iTunes?
I've been advised my MacBook2,1 cannot run newer MacOSX.
I'm now using Mail5.3 on MacBook Air running Mac OSX Lion 10.7.5.
How can I be sure my Notes (important to me) will successfully transfer to MacBook Air when I sync iPhone4 to OSX10.7.5?
    Is Notes obsolete?
How does Notes relate to Reminders?
How can I convert Notes to Reminders?

You really don't have to go through the trash folder (unlesss you want to check it) - going to the File menu > Mailbox and choose to erase deleted items in all accounts (or use the key command shown).

  • How do I avoid losing 5 seconds at the start on the tape when capturing?

I am just capturing off a MiniDV Camera but my problem lies in the fact that when I am logging the clip for capture it needs to start 5 seconds into the shot because if it is any shorter it isn't able to cue the tape when it goes to capture.
So my question is how do I get it to capture right from the first frame of the timecode? or am I just hoping for to much?
    Thanks in advance

I've had similar problems with a second camera person. I record 45 seconds of color bars on tape, and position the tape to 30 seconds in; but inevitably, someone will hit "rewind" and then start recording from zero.
I use "capture now." You get a few seconds to let "now" see time code, so, I poise my finger on "play" on the camera, click on "capture" now, then hit play. It seems to get almost all the frames, maybe a few drops right at the start, but less than a seconds worth.
    No pre-roll is done.
You can either capture the whole tape this way or just 10 seconds or so. Then you may capture clips in the usual way.
Note, that this technique works if you have some tape drop out which stops "capture clip." I've had tapes where there was a single frame drop out in the midst of a critical sequence which "capture clip" would stop on, and then discard what was already captured. To fix that, I would capture up to about 10 seconds before the clip, use capture now to get the part right up to the break (where it would stop, but keep what was already captured), then position the tape to exactly the frame where stuff got OK again, do another 10 second or so "capture now," and then stop it and set start/end points to capture the rest.
As far as I can tell, FCP has no means to allow "capture clip" to just proceed through a small drop out, or to stop there an keep what was already captured. Sigh... I submitted feedback on this a while ago. It sure would be nice to have a "fault tolerant" capture clip feature, and a way to capture clips from the beginning of the tape. You can't set "pre roll" short enough.

  • How Do I Avoid Losing Formatting When Pages documents Are Converted to PDF Files and Emailed?

I put together a presentation piece with Pages, converted its 19 pages to pdf files, emailed the folder of pdf files to Staples for duplication, collation, and binding, and was disappointed to see some of my graphic frame formatting lost.
Can anyone please tell me how to avoid the loss in the future?  'Sure would appreciate it.
I was "raised" on Microsoft Publisher, then worked with Adobe Elements before switching to Mac.  For the most-part, I find Mac OSX 10.7.5 a joy to use, but it takes me quite a while to figure out how to bridge differences between PC and Mac applications.   Even though Mac applications tend to be straight forward, I loften find myself shaking my head and wondering how I could have been stumped so long by a little thing such as instant alpha.  I don't want to chalk up this difficulty in adapting  to old age, but could! (--Which translates:  Please be easy on the old lady!)  Thanking you in advance for such assistance as you might provide ...

Upgrade to Mountain Lion OSX 10.8, much better than Lion.
I take it you are talking about Pages '09?
Your problem is probably with anything that has transparency eg fancy frames, 3D charts, shadows, reflections because Pages exports all these to too low 72dpi resolution in .pdfs.
Prepping files for commercial print is always a concern and you need at least some Pro skills, but Apple has made life even harder with key missing settings and inferior presets.
The subject of preparing for print is rather broad and detailed.

  • How do I prevent my contacts, emails and files from syncing to my daughters iphone but continue to have the apps sync?

I recen't bought my daughter an iphone 4 and I have a 5.   I want to prevent my contacts/email ect from syncing to her phone (and hers to mine) but still have all the apps and other things sync.   Is there a way to do this?  We have the same itunes and icloud account.   I'm not sure if they are the same thing or completely seperate entities.  I'm pretty apple illiterate and really need instructions in layman's terms.  LOL

    A couple of options:
Create a new AppleID for her and set up iCloud on it. Login  to that account on her device (Settings app > iCloud) but leave the iTunes&App Store account as is. (I have this set up on my wife's iPhone).
    OR
If either of you do not need to synch items, turn them off in icloud (Settings App > iCloud). Emails should not synch unless you have the same email accounts set up (Settings App > Mail,Contacts,Calendars)
