I got a new time capsule and can only connect 1 device at a time?

please help

You have the TC in bridge mode..
ie on the network tab it says.. off (bridge mode)..
Change this to dhcp + NAT mode..
Be aware you might then have more issues.. depending on the setup.. particularly if you have a cable modem you will need to power down the modem for 30min. maybe less.. maybe more.
More network info helps if that simple bit didn't work.. we cannot work with nothing.. Creation ex nihilo is only for divinity.. for ordinary humans we need something to start from.

You got a new laptop? try asking there or in Lion forum.
If it has Lion, use the Recovery Mode boot Command-R
Use that to erase and reinstall - it has network install ability.

New, as in from Apple, it would have asked for full setup.
Want to reset the password? (it is used then I'd wipe it clean and start over)

Try changing the channel in use in case you're getting interference.
If you have WEP enabled on the Internet Sharing it'ss worth disabling it whilst troubleshooting the connectivity issues.

  • Any word on a firewire to thunderbolt cable?  Got a new MacBook Pro and can't do any work on it til I can get to my data that's stored on my firewire-accessible external hard drive!

Any word on a firewire to thunderbolt cable?  Got a new MacBook Pro and no way to access my data because my data is stored on an external hard drive accessible only by firewire!

This is really starting to be annoying.  Apple said this adapter would be available in July.
Of course we could always buy the Thunderbolt Display.  For $999.  Complete with USB 2 ports.  That's not why we bought your MBP-Retina, Guys.  We expected connectivity -- high speed connectivity -- as you promised.
I also had an Apple store rep tell me that the adapter would be availble in September.  Hate to say it but it feels like Apple is resorting to selling vaporware.  It's a page out of the Bill Gates play book.

  • Just got a new IPOD Touch and it wont connect to our Wifi home network with a Belken N Router. Our router uses WEP 64 bit security, but had a "blank" password field, which the IPOD did not like. Changing to a 6 char numeric PW didnt help either.

OS is whatever OS ships with current IPOD Touch
I cannot understand why the APPLE engineers have designed this product so that it has SO MANY WIFI problems.  This is supposed to be an easy-to-use product.  We've had no problems connecting our new laptop, our ROKU box, etc, but it seems impossible to get the IPOD touch to work.  NOTHING LIKE SPENDING XMAS MORNING DOING APPLE TECH SUPPORT TROUBLESHOOTING TO LEAVE YOU IN THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT!!!  Argh!
In fact, the only way we have been able to get this expensive brand new IPOD to work on our home network is to DISABLE SECURITY in the router settings.  THIS IS ANYTHING BUT A GOOD IDEA.
DON"T KNOW WHY BUT MANY OTHER USERS ARE REPORTING THE SAME KIND OF PROBLEM SO APPLE ENGINEERING NEEDS TO GET BUSY AND FIX THIS PROBLEM SO THAT NEW USERS CAN CONNECT TO THE INTERNET WITHOUT HAVING TO BE TRAINED ROUTER ENGINEERS TO DO IT!!!!
Ok, sorry for the rant, but surely those of you who are experiencing this share my frustration.  This is not why I bought an APPLE product.
IS THERE ANY POSSIBILITY THAT APPLE WILL NOT ALLOW A WIFI PASSWORD with more than one identical alphanumeric character?  Any ideas?  We also tried eliminating the 40 MHZ setting under Bandwidth settings in the router settings for our router, but it made no difference.  The router has the latest firmware, too.  Running out of ideas, and am ready to box this unit up and send it back!

Thanks, Bob!  You are correct.  And, we learned this as we spoke with APPLE TECH SUPPORT by phone on Christmas day (800-APL-CARE).  One of their reps spent the time to help us troubleshoot this, but the boiled down conclusion is your answer, and to repeat for the benefit of others, here is what worked:
    1. With our Belkin router set to "out-of-the-box" WEP 64 bit security, we could not get wireless access of any kind.  Only with the Security Mode set to DISABLED, could we gain access.
    2. Changing the router's security mode setting to "WPA/WPA-2...." and entering a new min. 8 char passphrase, and then entering that same passphrase into the IPOD Touch, and restarting the router, did the trick!
Based on this, and some info found in another posting, I can only conclude that the IPODs and IPHONES do not support WEP security mode in many generic routers used by thousands of consumers.  Hopefully, those same consumers can figure out how to change their wireless router setttings to WPA/WPA-2 security mode and ALSO get all their other wireless devices (PCs, laptops, WII boxes, ROKU boxes) all reconfigured to WPA mode, too.
I THINK THE BOTTOM LINE HERE IS THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE THAT APPLE NEEDS TO ADDRESS WITH WEP COMPATIBILITY and it may also be the case that MOST CONSUMERS ARE USING WEP 64 BIT security on their home wireless routers?
In any case, it's working now, so anyone who is having problems should try changing to WPA mode and post back here if it worked for them!

  • I just got my new Mac Pro and can't seem to connect to my HP6380 printer.  Any suggestions?

    I

go into printer preferences and try adding it (the little plus sign on the bottom)
I don't know how you have it connected, so I can't offer any specific advice, also, check HP's website for any updated drivers, or run Software update to see if some have already been released
    hope this helps

  • Why can't I AirPrint from iPad w new HP printer and can only eprint??

IPad and iPhone even recognize printer (HP photo smart b210A) when in photo/email and select print but nothing happens and full service on wireless connection

    kelly145,
Yes, the HP Photosmart B210a is an ePrint and AirPrint capable printer.
You may also want to download the HP ePrint Home and Biz app from the Apple App Store. Although printing using this app is only capable from inside the application, the Home and Biz app uses a different service than the Bonjour service used by Apple's AirPrint.
This can help isoloate whether it may be an iOS, router, or printer issue that needs to be addressed.

  • I just got a new mac mini. Can I connect 2 monitors via dvi?

I'm using the thunderbolt port to connect an external hard drive.
I have two samsung monitors that have a dvi port and a vga port. i'd like to connect it to my mac mini, is this an option to connect with the hdmi to dvi adapter and a dvi to dual dvi splitter?
Or if you have another recommendation, please feel free to reply.
Just to be clear, I'm looking to use two monitors so i have more real estate to work with. I'm not looking for the same thing on one monitor to also be on the other.
    Thanks ahead,
    Line

Hello, if a splitter would work at all, it would only Mirror the same on both.
A few TB devices have a pass through that MAY work to run another Monitor... or not.

  • The airport on my Time Capsule will now only allow one device to connect at a time.

When I first installed my new time capsule, everything worked beautifully. I had multiple devices connected to the AirPort and life was good.
A few weeks ago, I swapped my cable modem and everything went bad from there. Now I can only connect one device wirelessly at a time.
After lots of back and forth with Time Warner, a swap of the modem and may hours with tech support, it has been determined that my Time capsule is not assigning the 2nd, 3rd... devices a proper IP address. Instead, the IP addresses all begin with 169.
What advice do you have. Is there a way to reset the whole darn thing? At this point, I am okay if I lose all of my backups.
    Thanks!

What is the cable modem?? Make and model please.
What model is your TC.. A1xxx from the base please??
I suspect the issue is the TC is bridged and you have a pure modem.. you need to change it over to router mode..
Here is what you need to do to setup the TC..
The list is over long perhaps but is based on best network practice for Yosemite which is rather more than problematic.
You don't say what OS you are running.
Once you do this.. you also need to power down the modem if it is pure modem type (which is all that makes sense here). Leave it off for 20min while you do the setup of the TC and then power up the modem wait a couple of min and power up the TC..
Expect serious issues if the modem is SB something.. 6121 or 6141 for example. And your TC is AC model.
Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the hard disk doing this.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
    Setup the TC again.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg TCgen5 for basestation and and TCwifi wireless name.
If the issue is wireless use TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense. But this can be tried in the second round. ie plan on a first and second round of changes to fix this.. hopefully.. I will point out other steps that can be round2.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply with 1. but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. If the TC is main router you can skip this point. This is only an issue when the TC is bridged.
Ensure the TC always takes the same IP address.. you will need to do this on the main router using dhcp reservation.. or a bit more complex setup using static IP in the TC. But this is important.. having IP drift all over the place when Yosemite cannot remember its own name for 5 min after a reboot makes for poor networking.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. but this change will mess up your TM backup.. so be prepared to do a new full backup. Sorry.. keep this one for second round if you want to avoid a new backup.
    5. Mount the TC disk in the computer manually.
In Finder, Go, Connect to server from the top menu,
Type in SMB://192.168.0.254 (or whatever the TC ip is which you have now made static. As a router by default it is 10.0.1.1 and I encourage people to stick with that unless you know what you are doing).
You can use name.. SMB://TCgen5.local where you replace TCgen5 with your TC name.. local is the default domain of the TC and doesn't change.
However names are not so easy as IP address.. nor as reliable. At least not in Yosemite they aren't. The domain can also be an issue if you are not plugged or wireless directly to the TC.
    6. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only. Do the same for ethernet if you use it.
There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.
You might need to do some more work on the computer itself. eg Reset the PRAM.. has helped some people. Clean install of the OS is also helpful if you upgrade installed.
    Tell us how you go.
Someone posted a solution.. See this thread.
Macbook can't find Time Capsule anymore
Start from the bottom and work up.. I have a list of good network practice changes but I have avoided Yosemites bug heaven.
Yosemite has serious DNS bug in the networking application.. here is the lets say more arcane method of fixing it by doing a network transplant from mavericks.

  • Can only connect 2 Macs at a time to Airport/TC

Just what the title says, I can only connect 2 devices at a time. If I want to connect a third someone needs to get off their Mac.

This happens usually because the TC is in the wrong mode..
Go to the airport utility and check if the TC is in router mode, ie DHCP and NAT.. if not place it in that model and tell me what happens.
You need to give loads more info.
Type of broadband and actual modem / router supplied is a good start.

  • New problem - can only connect w/o security

have a wireless router and had no problem getting my macbook to connect. added a desktop and can only connect if i disable the password feature. my question is twofold:
    1. why will it not connect when I have to supply a password (the password is correct)
    2. if I cannot resolve issue 1, then can I diable SSID broadcast but still not require a password?

Try to include a dollar sign before your password
