I got a question regarding the hard disk.

I got the following Question. I have the new 10.7.1 software, and of course two partitions, BOOTCAMP and Macintosh HD.
And the problem is that in BOOTCAMP are the folders : Application, Library, System, User. And if I put some music in iTunes the music of course will be copied into User/.../iTunes etc... and u can imagine that the partition BOOTCAMP is only a 20GB partition, so that soon the partition will be full. How can I solve the Problem, to move the folders Application and User in the Macintosh HD, when i try to do it okay...but i can't delete from Bootcamp, it says “Applications” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by Mac OS X.
regards Raphael S.

Why do you have this 20GB?
Back it up.
Remove it.
Extend the Mac Extended volume.
Restore files.
If you have set application preferences for /Volume/BOOTCAMP/somethingorother
You will of course need to change it back to normal ~/
Your description though sounds like it was Mac OS X, not Windows.
If necessary clone both partitions and erase the whole raw drive (WDxxxxxx) to one when you erase. Then restore.
Had you said how it got this way....

I have just got my iPad2 and am very pleased with it. I have a question regarding the monthly (recommended) battery full charge.  Should I let the battery completely die down to nothing at all before I plug in to recharge or would this complete drain be bad for my iPad?

It's not bad for it - on this page www.apple.com/batteries/ipad.html it says :
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).

  • Sleep Question when "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep" is unchecked

In the Energy Saver options, I unchecked the "Put the hard disks to sleep when possible" option ... what happens if I close the lid? Does that option get overridden and the hard drive goes to sleep?
Will I be safe to move my mbp around in my backpack when I travel? Or do I have to shut it down totally? I tried finding the answer but couldn't find a real response.
I just want to know if the laptop's drive stops spinning and I can move it around safely or if I should always turn off my mbp when I put it in my backpack. Thanks for any answers.

    > what happens if I close the lid? Does that option get overridden and the hard drive goes to sleep?
Yes, it's over-ridden, the heads park and you can move it around happily
Make sure it does actually go to sleep and not hang up on some run-away (BootCamp) process or similar ... you can tell by the noise. If it's not silent within 10 seconds of the lid closing open it up again and check Activity Monitor.

  • Clearing The Hard Disk

    Hello All,
I just bought my mac mini from my brother, for the soul purpose of using Final Cut Express HD. Well my problem is that I can't import videos becasue there is only about a Gig of memory left on the hard disk. I don't know how so much space got used up but about 72 GB is used up right now. Can someone tell me a way to start fresh with the hard disk, not delete everything but to just clear out all his old crap? I would appreciate it. Thanks a lot.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
When obtaining a Mac from another person, it would usually be a good thing to simply reformat it and reinstall MacOS and the software you need, to make sure you don't end up with a system full of potential issues resulting from it's prior use. If you have the original install disk that came with the mini, you can do this by inserting it, then rebooting the system with the C key held down. This forces the mini to boot from the install disk.
From there, select 'erase and install'. This will erase all data (so don't do this if you need something already on there) and then install a fresh copy of MacOS. After that, when the system reboots it'll be the same as if it just came out of the box, and will ask you a few basic configuration questions and then to register it.
If you absolutely must keep the existing MacOS install, beware that the system will barely run with so little free space on the drive. You'll need to clear a fair bit of that at the very least! The easiest tool for the purpose of tracing what is taking up the used space is a freeware app called 'WhatSize'. You can download it from www.versiontracker.com and use it to examine what is on the drive, thus allowing you to find and remove unwanted material quickly.
By the way, to the other poster - no, Mac Janitor cannot be the cause of the problem you describe because it doesn't do anything that impacts the functionality of MacOS. It simply runs some basic log trimming and clearing tasks.

  • My iMac cannot detect the Hard Disk

    Hi, i've got a question...
Something is wrong with my new iMac. Somedays (only somedays) my iMac cannot detect the hard disk, so when I startup it stops on the initial screen (whit a gray "apple" and background). I tryed to startup it with OSX system discs but the installation app and disk utility don't detect any Hard Disk.
At an authorized store have said to me that can be a software problem...
Is that true? I thought that was a hardware problem.
    Thanx,

Given the young age of you machine I believe you should be taking Apple to task on this one. I'd advise you back-up your data to multiple locations before you go any further.

  • I have a 2nd gen Mac book air with Lion. The hard disk has filled up even though i keep my data , music etc on hard drive . I used disk inspector to find where problem was and it is 20GB in the hidden files under the user directory can i resolve this ?

I have a 2nd Gen MAc book Air with Lion .  The 60GB hard disc has quickly filled up despite me keeping most of my data on a portable hard drive .  I used disk inspector to locate the problem but found that it was was in 20 GB of hidden files in my user directory .  Is this correct and is there anything i can do about it ? Using disk inspector you can not see individual hudden diretories or files. I did unhide them but there is a mass of diretories etc and so no way i could see if this is one or multiple files using the space. Library System and  Applications are at 4 3 and 3 GB respectvely.  The data I actually keep on there is 9GB    Thanks for any help

I think the problem is Quick Time Player. I am using OS 10.6.8 by the way.
    I tried it out again.
I had about 26 GB of space before I played an .avi video.
After the movie started to play (it was slow to load), I got a warning message that my startup disk was full. I opened Disk Utility and it told me I had no space left (about 20 MB or something like that was left).
I watched to the end of the movie.
    Then I quit Quicktime Player.
And I shut down the computer.
I turned on the computer and checked Disk Utility. I have about 26 GB of space.
I think for some reason Quicktime Player uses up a lot of the disk space when it runs movies that are problematic. This movie I was watching did not open with vlc.
I normally use vlc to watch movies.
Probably it doesn't use up this much space when the movie is OK.
I think there's a problem with this particular movie. It is about 50 MB so it's not that big a file. I watch .smi subtitles with it. The Quicktime Player automatically loads the subtitle file in this case because the subtitle file has the same name as the movie file.
I watched about 10 movie files from the same series that I downloaded together and did not have any problem watching them. I watched them on vlc. But this latest movie had problems I think (as I repeat). It did not load on vlc even though I waited for a minute, and normally movies load instantly on vlc.
So I think that movie file caused problems. It made QT player use up a lot of hard disk space.
I had better avoid watching that movie in the future. I don't want it to wreck my hard drive.
So to sum up, everything is back to normal. I have the hard disk space that I should have. However, I am scared of damaging my hard drive due to shonky movie files that eat up all the space when they are played using QT player, and so I will not watch those files in the future, as I do not know why the files do that.

Western Digital 500 GB 7200 rpm SATA3 WD5002AALX 32M Black. Sometimes I see the hard disk in the utility on the Starter CD, but access seems very slow. By cons when I want
install OS X 10.4.2 on the hard drive, I do not see the disk. What is the problem?

    Thanks for the help
I started on the installation CD OS X 10.4.2, I used Disk Utility
to partition the disk according to the document that you have proposed. unfortunately
I have not succeeded. When I partition the disk, even if I called it Macintosh HD, it
does not keep the name and it shows disk0s3 instead. I did an erase on disk.
When I mount the disk it tells me that I must repair. When I tried to repair, I got
    the following message:
    Volume check failed
The underflying task reported failure on exit
    1 HFS volume checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error.
    I also had a message:
    Invalid b-tree node size.
Note: The disc is new, but it has already been formatted on a computer Imac 27 inch 2011 OS X Lion.
I used a USB 2.0 to SATA cable to adjust the formatting.
What to do to fix it?

Hello. I have just enabled Hyper-V on my Windows 8.1 laptop.
    Dell Latitude E7440 i7-4600U @ 2.10GHz
I can create a Virtual-Switch but I am unable to create a new Hard Disk or Virtual Machine within Hyper-V. I get the same error for both processes.

I have attempted to create a virtual machine on the current SSD and also an external drive. The same error appears.
I have also attempted to create a virtual hard disk via Hyper-v with a Base vhdx, still the same error occurs. I've tested the base image on other laptops of the same model and windows 8.1 without issue.
Any thoughts on how I can fix this?
    Thank you,
    -Jake

    Hi Jake,
"Enable Data Execution Protection (DEP) in the BIOS and make sure the Format of drive file system is not fat32.
    1. Uninstall Intel Active System Monitor 3.0, if installed.
    2. Disable "Intel IPMI Service" and "Intel Monitoring Agent" Service.
    3. Open regedit and locate: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\imbdrv.
    4. Change the Start Key to 4 (Disabled).
    5. Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E97D-E325-11CE-BFC1-0 8002BE10318}.
    6. Take ownership of the ‘Properties’ key.
    7. Give yourself full permission for this key.
    8. Now locate the properties key; if you see a ‘Security’ entry there, that is your problem. Delete this key.
    9. Try attaching or adding the VHD again after rebooting.
If above steps did not help, add the Network Service account to Local Administrator group."

  • Replacing the hard  disk on an iBook G3 (700 Dual USB)

    Hi
I'm kind of regarded as the guy to go and see when anything goes wrong with a Mac, here in Athens, Greece. But I have very little hardware experience with laptops. A friend of mine just brought me her iBook G3 (700 Dual USB), running Panther 10.3.9 to check out. She was getting the initial start up screen (grey Apple, spinning wheel) and once in every ten times or more actually getting into her hard disk. Anyway after a bunch of tests I narrowed the problem down to the hard disk (40 gig, I think). The disc is basically presenting all the symptoms of a damaged disc. I can not even wipe and reinstall on it. When I start up from the Panther system CD, it runs normally, up to the point where I tell it to install, it goes to the next screen where you choose your destination disc, and shows, nothing! Disk Utility on the install disc sees the hard disk and identifies it as an IBM, but the single partition with Panther installed is greyed out. I tells me that the disk can't be wiped because of an ERROR -20. I also tried mounting it on my G4 as a firewire external, and in fact managed to rescue the data, (though it took an hour to transfer 250 kb of data). I even tried to wipe it in my own machine as an external disc, but again the same problem. Strangely enough Disk Utility says the disc does not need repair.
Anyway, I decided to change the disk and be done with it. But as I say I have very little hardware experience with laptops, and the Apple support pages don't have any documents that show the internal workings of the iBook, except for how to change memory and install Airport cards. Aside from the fact that I still have to figure out where to find a new disc for the machine, I don't really want to open it up until I can check some instructions.
Can anyone give me a clue how you get inside these machines? I have a Powerbook G4 manual which does shows how to open it up and change the HD, but I'm not sure how similar these two models are internally.
So I'd appreciate any clue as to the procedure for opening these babies up. Thanks in advance.

It's not an easy thing to do. Arm yourself with a tiny screwdriver and loads of patience:

model is Hp Pavilion  g6.. windows 7 home basic,
My system is asking to run the hard disk test run.. i have run , there was no error, but the message is still comming, i do not kow whether i amdoing it in a right way or not.. Please any giude do that test and find the issue.....

    Hi,
If you receive this message when starting the notebook, try the following.
Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run a test on the Hard Drive.  Post back with the details of any error messages.
If you receive this message while Windows is running , click the Start Menu, click Computer, left click Local Disc C once to highlight it, right click Local Disc C and select Properties.  Click the Tools tab and then click the button to 'Check the Drive for Errors'.  In the following window make sure both boxes are ticked and then click Start.  Agree to schedule the check at the next system restart and then restart the notebook - this process can take a couple of hours to complete before loading back into Windows.

  • Help!  My iMac doesn't see the hard disk!

My old, reliable iMac (the old sunflower flat panel) suddenly froze up and when I did a hard break and restarted it, the dreaded folder with a question mark appeared.
I tried starting it from an installation disk--which it did with no problems except it still didn't see the hard disk. I tried inserting the Apple Hardware Test disk, which worked. I ran it and it said everything was OK, but when I hit the Restart button it still didn't see my hard drive.
I'm at my wit's end because, being a freelancer, I have a lot of important information on my iMac, which I stupidly haven't backed up for a long time. I have a little hope because the Apple Hardware Test ran and didn't find any problems (the Mass Storage test passed, which I'm assuming is the hard disk?).
PLEASE! Can anyone help me? My main objective is to get my data off of the disk and onto either my PowerBook or my external USB hard drive.
    Thanks for any advice,
    Karin

I tried starting it from an installation disk--which it did with no problems except it still didn't see the hard disk.
Are you saying your drive did not show up in Disk Utility? Did you Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them.

I think we have all been there! If you need help with a better backup strategy, let us know!

You can retrieve data using Target Disk Mode to your PowerBook. That's if the drive shows up.

  • Comprehensible question regarding the usage of a ccBPM in SAP PI 7.31

    Hello experts,
I have got basic question about the useage of ccBPM in PI 7.31 double Stack. I haven't  created any ccBPM before so the whole set up process is new for me. We are currently using several ccBPM already which where created by our colleagues.
I just have a question about the basic of work of a ccBPM and if the designed process can be realised at all.
The current process should be implemented, starting from the erp system with a trigger report (left side). All the offered function are provided by the called system (right side)
So can this whole process can be realised using ccBPM, so that after the trigger report is called the rest of the process is handled within the pi? The process checkStatus needs to be called within a loop and at the end the generated File should be stored on the file system.
Thanks in advance for clearing my thoughts on this problem guys!
    regards
    Christian

    Hello Christian,
is this a 1-1 correlation? So you have just one sender system and one target system? It might be better then to implement the flow in your sender system and only call single interfaces on PI. While it is technically possible to do everything in PI there is no real added value to do so. BPM is most benefitial when you need to aggregate information from different sources and when the process contains decisions that lead to alternative process steps.

  • Fixing the DV-in problem from iMovie when Studio Pro is on the hard disk

I found that my iMovie can again export to the camera if I took out all of the following files from Library/Quick Time. They are presently on the desktop. Can I delete all of these from the hard disk without negatively affecting any iMovie4 function?
    DesktopVideoOut.component
    DVCPROHDCodec.component
    DVCPROHDMuxer.component
    DVCPROHDVideoDigitizer.component
    DVCPROHDVideoOutput.component
    DVCPROHDVideoOutputClock.component
    DVCPROHDVideoOutputCodec.component

Mmm. This does happen with earlier versions of iMovie, like your iMovie 4 ..but doesn't happen with the current iMovie HD 6 ..I have no problems, and I've got iMovie 6, Final Cut Express and Pro, and DVD Studio Pro all on the same Mac.
Yes, you can delete them if you're not going to use Final Cut. But if you are going to use Final Cut, just move them to some other place to store them, e.g: in your 'Movies' folder.
P.S: Give my love to Füssen; I'll be in Hohenschwangau in the New Year!
