I got another mail regarding mountain lion free upgrade program !! But its saying OS X server not able to download ?
Plz Help

You are not alone in this, Maddy. I had the same thing happen. Apple obviously sent incorrect codes that redeemed for OS X Server instead of Mountain Lion. I called Apple Care who said that it must be some server fluke and that they would get back to me within 24 hours.

I am currently running 10.7.5 on my macbook. I tried downloading Mountain Lion application...but it says 'error'',,,is there another way to upgrade my OS?

First we need to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The Early 2006 model 1,1 Core Duo can only run a maximum of 10.6 Snow Leopard.
The models Late 2006 Core 2 Duos 2,1 through Early 2008 4,1 can only run a maximum of 10.7 Lion.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody through the Mid 2010 White Unibody model 7,1 can run 10.8 Mountain Lion.

Mountain lion free upgrade menu is fade away. I want to upgrade my macbookair

You probably have exceeded the maximum time and now will have to pay ($20) for the upgrade. However you can attempt to contact AppleCare and see if they will allow a free upgrade. It might be worth the   phone call.

I'm trying to restore my MacBook Air but it tells me I need to purchase OS X mountain lion which I have but it says I haven't and I obviously can't put a disc in because MacBook Airs don't take discs. What do I do?

Thank you Terence for your help.  I was able to restore my backup from my time machine ext drive to a new 1tb seagate ext drive.  so i felt sort of ok.  but yesterday that older ext drive i used for time machine wouldn't open! i called applecare and they trouble shooted with me and said it's probably a goner and data is probably corrupted.  it's only a few years old and i'm very careful with it.  my husband accidentally dropped my new drive last night -- i know, unbelievable, i was SO upset, poor guy -- but I'm so stressed with all of this.  i have 10 years of photos and videos.  so now i only have the one newer drive with a backup.  i have to buy another one today to backup again so i at least have two backups.  i tried to delete a ton of files last night to free up the 30 gb of space i need to get my full library back on my mac. i have 90gb free and deleted 7 years worth of photos i had on picasa that were in my "pictures" folder and also a ton or random photos and videos i had in that same pictures folder and thought that would give me the 30 gb but it hardly freed up any space at all!  do you know why that is?  all of this stuff is really a pain and really stressful.  thank god i did have a backup in the first place but now i am panicked the one i have left will somehow crash.  especially after my husband dropped the drive lastnight! it didn't fall far and fell onto a wood floor and seems fine, but after my older ext drive crashed yesterday -- and i lost my entire iphoto library a fewweeks ago off my mac -- i feel cursed.  any answers you have would be great. thank you.

  • Mountain Lion Free upgrade error

I tried the mountain lion free update page,  I answered all the questions and it keeps indicating in red to correct the number of "right to copy" computers.  I entered one and it still gives me an error.  I purchased my new Mac online on July 16, 2012
I am also working off of wifi if this has anything to do with the error.

Mobile Me no longer exists and i want to use icloud.  But i need to download Mountain Lion but I am told I can not purchase for my 2007 Macbook Pro. I am now running Snow Leopard.
    What can I do?

Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99.
If you sign into the App Store and try to purchase Mountain Lion but the App Store says your computer is not compatible then you may still be able to upgrade to Lion per the following information.
    A. Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.
    B. Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • Mountain Lion - free upgrade

    Greetings
I applied for my free upgrade to Mountain Lion on 25th July and have not received anything as yet. I read on this forum that upgrade codes will take between 24 and 72 hours to process. My application has well exceeded that. I was given a reference number and am wondering if there is anyway I can query this. Thank you.
    Regards
    Ric

I would call the Apple Support, as people have stated it sped up their time of receiving the code, especially since its been more than 5 days since you received your reference code.

Click the link above. It will tell you about the problems with codes/etc affecting Mountain Lion.
I decided I'm going to wait it out before making the upgrade, especially because last year so many people were downloading at the same time, it was slow.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Mountain Lion free upgrade eligibility denied

I keep getting emails from apple saying a proof of purchase was not provided in order to get my free upgrade to mountain lion. I had already scanned my receipt. The full receipt has the date, my name, and the last four digits of my debit card, verifying that I paid for it. Please help!

I've been getting the same emails...
I can't believe how poorly Apple has managed this whole process. Very disapointed... will be making a call to address this. I have so far provided every peice of information available to me and they have still rejected my claim.

I'm on my 3rd day now and no codes are appearing for my free upgrade.

  • Downloaded Mountain Lion from App Store, but it says by disk is locked and won't let me choose the hard drive for installation

I'm struggling to get Mountain Lion installed on my machine, but what is worse is that it has essentially rendered my computer useless (and of course I need to use it urgently). After downloading and installing from the App Store, I have run into some significant problems.
On install, when prompted to "select the disk where you want to install OS X" the hard drive is greyed out and a message comes up that says "The disk is locked."
So when I back out of the install, I am given the option for Disk Utility, Reinstall OS X (same results as before)  or Restore from Backup (not backed up).
On the Disk Utility, I can hit Verify Disk and it names an error and says to hit Repair Disk. The error is an "Invalid Sibling Link. The volume Macintost HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired." Unfortunately, Repair Disk is greyed out and I can't hit it.
What I want to do is just forget the entire process at this point and scrap the upgrade until I have time to figure out what is going on. Is there a way to abort at this point?
    Thanks for any help!

    Your welcome!
You should always have and keep an up to date backup.
Sounds like you need something a little stronger than Disk Utility. At this point I have no way of knowing if Disk Warrior can or will help.
    Depends..!
If you do format and install, then Yes it will.
If you reinstall OS X, then No it will not.
Problem is that according to the Disk Utility message, I don't think that you will be able to install either 10.6 or 10.8.
Those are very good questions. The only bad questions are the ones you have to ask yourself.
