I got Articulate Engage into Captivate but am now stuck

I am able to make an Articulate Engage interaction into a Captivate file, I don't know what to do with it after that.  This engage interaction is just a piece of a tutorial, not a stand-alone learning object.  I was hoping I could publish it as a Captivate file and then stick it in Adobe Presenter like I normally do with Captivate interactions (using insert swf in the presenter tab).  However, it is not working.  It just looks like it is loading.  I understand there are dependent files that must be involved in this process somehow, but I don't understand what I need to do with them.  Any assistance is appreciated.  I also would be fine with putting my ppt into Captivate if that is easier.  I tried that and it just skipped over the slide that was supposed to have the engage interaction on it (with the animation) but maybe I didn't publish it to the right place to find those dependent files.
I followed these instructions to make engage into captivate http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2009/05/shifting_to_adobe_elearning_su_2.html so no need to refer me to there or another similar forum I found on here.
Thank you in advance!

Hello,
I had the same problem!  The solution I did was to copy and paste the contents of the published Engage (or Quizmaker) main folder into the published Captivate folder.  I pasted a screen shot of how the published Captivate folder should look for it to work; The Captivate project is named Captivate file Testing Quiz maker, and you can see all of the published quiz files pasted into the Captivate published folder:
Hopefully this helps!

  • How to import Articulate quiz into Captivate

I am trying to import an Articulate Quiz, in to Captivate 5 , it imports and I have followed the instructions found here
    http://daveperso.mediaenglishonline.com/2010/06/21/publishing-articulate-to-captivate/
However my quiz does not play past the first screen, are there any hard and fast rules or a guide for hw to do this correctly?
    Thanks

    Hi there,
One possible option (I haven't tried this myself) woud be to try and load the Articulate Quiz into your Adobe Captivate 5 project using the free Web Page Widget created by Jim Leichliter.
You can learn more about this Widget by clicking on the link I have included below.
    http://jimleichliter.blogspot.com/2010/11/adobe-captivate-5-web-page-widget.html
Let us know how you get on.

  • Does anyone know how to insert an Articulate Engage interaction into a Captivate 2 project?

I would like to insert an Articulate Engage interaction into
a Captivate 2 project. And,er, that's it really. Does anyone know
how to do it? When I try to insert the Articulate project as an
animation, it functions fine in the preview screen, but once it's
been inserted all I get is the loading screen.

    Hi again darren.winter
If I were in your shoes, here is what I'd try. Place the
content from Articulate in a specific folder. Then publish your
Captivate to the same folder to ensure all files are there
together. Then test. Obviously, this may work or it may fail. And
just as obviously, if it works, you're done!
If it fails, I think I'd try publishing my Captivate using
different settings. Try publishing for different Flash versions.
You might find that if you target Flash 6 it fails, but 7 or 8 may
    work.
If the Flash version bit fails, are there some settings in
Articulate that allow you to reduce the number of files that are
required? For example, I know that when Captivate 2 came out, many
folks had to scramble (and some still do) over the fact that it
produced multiple output files. Some LMS' didn't like the fact
there were typically two .SWF files to distribute. We then learned
we could eliminate one of the .SWF files by turning off the
borders. So I'm wondering if perhaps Articulate may have similar
    output options you could use.
    Hopefully something here helps... Rick

  • How to import an Engage interaction into Captivate 6?

Can someone please advise how to import an Engage interaction into Captivate 6?

    Welcome to the forum,
Articulate Engage interactions are still AS2, if it hasn't changed recently since I checked last time. This means that you cannot insert them as an animation. However, you should search on the Articulate forum (always pointed at so much better than this one ) because there is an explanation how you can insert them as webobjects.
If this still is indeed AS2, too bad, but Articulate should urgently upgrade to AS3,

  • Import Engage Interaction into Captivate 4

I know this has been asked many times, but I just can't
believe that this is not possible, especially in Captivate 4. Can
someone please tell me how to import an Engage interaction into
Captivate 4? I tried as an animation and it converts it to a
    preloader.
    Thanks,

Hi - I've been having a huge struggle trying to get my Engage interactions to play in Acrobat Connect Pro during my virtual classroom sessions. In other platforms (Webex, Centra, Live Meeting) I've had no trouble using Engage interactions as a way to keep the content interesting and, well, "engaging." But Connect Pro simply refuses to play them. Someone told me to try publishing them to Captivate (e.g. Importing them into Captivate and then publishing the SWF), and then uploading the Captivate SWF to the Connect Pro library. I was encouargaed when I saw your seeminlgy easy steps.
However, I tried them and they didn't work. I guess I wasn't surprised because you say to first publish the Captivate file to "any folder," and then go into the Preferences, check the animations box, and you should now see the Engage SWF in the folder with the Captivate output. How could the Engage SWF just appear? It would seem that the correct way to do this is to go to Preferences before publishing, check the "Animations" box, and then publish. In any case, even when I do it that way, I do get a Captivate SWF that plays my Engage interaction, but when I upload that to the Connect Pro content library, it still won't work.
Are you sure you've actually tried this? I've checked with a few people and they all agree that once it's published, going back into Captivate and checking a box in the Preferences simply won't cause a new file to appear in the Captivate output folder. Just curious... I figured you may want to correct this so future readers aren't confused by it.

Hello, having a problem with Logic 9 on a Mac Pro.Working on a lenghty song and apparently session got corrupted.Doesnt let me export tracks, program crashes.Already tried start brand new session with the tracks imported into it but still wont export.Suggestions?

Thanks, Ian. Yeah, that's how I do it now...or with the controls in the left side pane. Still, I would have liked that quick on-the-spot edit capability...especially while sketching.
    Ian Turner wrote:
Sorry Mark, you are out of luck as it does not do that - it works the same as L8. The way I would achieve that with more accuracy and control would be to route all the tracks you want to fade to a Bus then use volume automation on the bus. To do this you will need to add a standard audio track, then re-assign it using (Control Click on the track header) to the Bus track. You can then automate volume/plugins etc on the Bus track.

  • Importing Articulate into Captivate

    Hi everyone,
I am trying to import Articulate Engage or Quizzes into Cp4 and am getting no where.  I followed the instructions on the blog and nothing seems to work.
Does anyone have some step by step instructions to help?
    Would be much appreciated.
Here is what I have tried:
    1. Exported Engage as engage.swf
    2. Opened Cp and inserted engage.swf as animation
    3. Changed preferences to externalize Animations
    4. Published to folder, naming engageandcp.swf
    5. Copied engageandcp.swf to original engage.swf folder
When I open the Cp file I get a white screen.

I am having the same problem!  I just started working on this today.  The problem seems to be that Articulate doesn't generate one single stand alone .swf file.  I will keep watching for responses to your post.  If I figure it out, I will update this forum.

  • This is a ditto... but Inserting Camtasia movies (MP4-Flash) into Captivate (a path or JS challenge)

    I’m using Captivate v. 6 and Camtasia v. 8
I’ve created Camtasia movies as MP4 – Flash.
My Captivate project is a SCORM housed on an LMS (SyberWorks) for the company’s internal intranet.
In Captivate I’ve inserted/imported movies as Event Videos, Progressive Download with a playbar/skin.
Movies are housed on same directory level as the .html and .swf zipped files.
Path to video files are relative (ie)
    Z:\Orgs\ogslp\Courses\2012DfltPrvnt\Test 6 Flash with controller2.mp4
I did find the following note on Adobe’s site:
Note: If your Adobe Captivate project contains FLV/F4V files, ensure that the files contain metadata for the video player to function correctly. FLV/F4V files created with Flash Communication Server 1.5.2, FLV Exporter version 1.2, and Sorenson Squeeze® 4.0 automatically contain metadata. Sorenson Squeeze 4.0 is included with the Flash Video Kit. If you import an FLV file that does not have any metadata, the file will not play correctly in your project.
and am waiting for the IT department to get a copy of Adobe Media Encoder so I can embed javascript into my mp4/Flash Movies.
The movies of course play very well off my hard drive, but not off the LMS, a deja vu from the link below.
So… is my issue a path issue or do I simply need to embed javascript into my video(s), or perhaps both?

And PS, why are no videos showing up in the video manager? I can see them in the author slides, but not in the manager.
    Thnx - wjf

This is a reply to my own message. A work around that will allow our team to move forward is to make a screen capture of a screen capture. We have content experts who are equipped with Camtasia. These folks will make their narrated movies. I'll then capture their movies with Captivate's screen capture by following: Insert > Recording Slide. Google Chrome of course has the Flash player installed by default so I open the mp4 (M4V) or FLV movie via Chrome and use Captivate's Recording Slide, choose Video Demo option. This gets me a Camtasia screen capture into Captivate. Import audio on its own and it matches up with my test of a movie 1 minute long (longer videos might slip out of sync - will test this).
However, the movie does not have the convenient playbar attached, so video navigation/control can be gained via a Captivate playbar for the slide itself. This offers a double set of navigation options b/c I also created my own set of navigation controls with Flash, but with a simple set of instructions users will know to use bottom playbar for video control and my flash buttons for slide navigation. Its a bit clunky, but this is what I have for now until the engineers have time to target the following:

PS I'm sure a simple javascript code could fix this, but for me javascript isn't so easy;)

hi ; i got the music from the i-tune store downloaded onto the computer but got th shuffle plugged in but cant get it from computer onto shuffle. help please.

It depends on your shuffle type, and whether you want to do it manually or using automatic syncing.  It seems like you linked off of the document that describes how to load content to your shuffle.  This one
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1719
If you tried following the steps in the document, where did you run into problems?  That document also shows the four types of shuffles.  Which one do you have?  Which method from that document are you trying to use?

  • Flash file into captivate playing slow first time

    Hi.
I am very new to flash but have been using Captivate for
awhile now. I am trying to create an animation in flash of a book
flipping pages. I have 9 jpg images of the various stages of the
book flipping. When I import the first image into Flash it asks if
I want to include the entire series of images. I said yes to this
and now I am stuck. When I test the movie in Flash it plays slow
once and then really fast after that.
I saved it and imported it into a captivate project and the
same thing is happening. It plays really slow and choppy. If I
navigate away from the page and then come back to it, it plays
really fast (faster than I'd like but I'd prefer that to slow)
Any help. I searched on the Flash forum and found someone
else with this issue but they never got a response.
Any suggestions would be great. I am sure I am missing a step
here but I just can't figure out what it is.
    Thanks,
    Kim

When you say you play it, in either Captivate or Flash, do
    you mean
locally or that you upload it somewhere and play it back
    through a web
    browser from that website location?
If the former, then I'm not sure. If the latter, sounds like
    the images
are Very Large and it's taking a while for them to download
    in order to
play...but once they're downloaded and 'cached', the file
    plays quickly.
How large are your published SWFs? What format are your
    images? What DPI?

  • Animations imported into Captivate 5.5 not playing correctly.

This issue started when I tried to open a Cp 5 project in Cp 5.5.  The animations don't play at all if the "Synchronize with Project" option is On and the anmiation starts at 0 sec on the timeline. Also, there is a visible "blink" between animations on the same slide and between slides.
I've been using Cp 5 for about a year and have worked out my issues with it so these are the things that AREN'T wrong:  The transitions for slides and swfs are set to "No Transitions," there is no space between swfs on the timeline that would be making the "blink," there are no blank frames at the end of the timeline in the swf files(inside of Flash), the swfs are AS3, they are only as long as their original timeline, my Preferences are set to no fades on Start and End slides, and my timelines do not extend beyond their content to show white space.
The files work fine in Cp 5.  The file animation links are also randomly missing/broken when brought into Cp 5.5 and even after I re-establish them, they periodically turn red (not up to date).
So I figured, "Maybe I can't work with previous version files.  I'll just start a new blank project in Cp 5.5." Right? . . . Not right.  Swfs still aren't visible when published if they are set to "Synchronize with Project" AND start at the 0 sec mark.  They still "blink" between swfs and slides.  So maybe I can't use Flash 5 files in Cp 5.5 either.  If that is the case, this upgrade was a waste of time and money and should not have been released until these MAJOR issues were resolved.
Someone from support is looking into it, but so far the only advice that I got was "Turn the Sync option off and fade into your next animations."  What?! The sync option is very important because that keeps your animations playing correctly when people scrub the playhead.  If Cp 5.5 is programmed to do that automatically, then why keep the option button?  If not, do you really expect me to NOT want my animations to play consistently when people drag around the playhead?  As for the fading, maybe fading out after every animation swf is not an option for me, maybe I need it to be seamless.  And to that I was told, "Put all your animations together in one Flash file." Duh, but that was how this needing Cp to assemble my separate swfs started in the first place. If any of you have tried importing 3D rendered pngs into Flash, you know that you can only have so many frames before the program can't handle the load and crashes.  I can only support aoubt 250-300 frames of optimized pngs before Flash crashes on me and thats WITH 16GB of ram on a new 64 bit operating system.
If anyone has had this issue and found a fix or some kind of pending patch, please let me know, because by now, I'm wanting a refund.

Captivate 5 was a total rewrite from the Captivate 4 software architecture and it introduced a subtle but fundamental change in the way that Flash animations were handled in Captivate published content.
Basically the change means that if your animation was built down a level or two inside a symbol rather than on the main timeline at the top level, then you will find that Captivate 5 or 5.5 loads and executes the animation on the first slide of the movie. This means that by the time you get to the actual slide where you WANTED the animation to perform it's magic, it's already run and finished.
In Captivate 4 this did not happen.  The animation was not really loaded until later in the movie timeline so as to be ready for the slide where it was required.  It didn't matter if the animation was buried inside a symbol or not.
    You have two choices:
Revamp your animation so that it all happens on the main timeline in the Flash FLA file that generates it.
Get your Flash programmer to add some ActionScript code to the animation so that it does NOT play completely when first loaded at the beginning of the project at runtime.
I agree that Captivate would have been regarded as less of a beast if this change had NOT been made, as users only find out about it AFTER upgrading projects with animations built as symbols.  However, I have to trust that if the change was introduced, there must have been a very good reason.

  • Conflict between Articulate Engage swf and Quiz Manager

I am inserting an articulate engage swf into my Breeze presentation and my Presenter quiz questions do not work correctly after inserting the engage swf.
My process has been to publish the engage swf which also publishes a content folder....Then I insert the engage swf into the powerpoint presentation....Then publish the presentation locally with Presenter.  I then have to add the engage content folder to the Presenter output folder structure in data > resources.
My slide presentation also has Adobe Quiz Manager questions in it.  THe problem i am having is the quiz questions will not advance  with the engage swf in the presentation.  The kicker is, the quiz questions will work if they are on slides that come before any slide with  engage content on it.  for example if there are a couple of quiz questions in my presentation and the first one is on slide 5 followed by an engage swf on slide 6, this first quiz question will work.  If the next quiz question is on slide 7 it will not advance after the user answers the question.  If i skip the slide  with the engage content (by going from slide 5 to 7) the 2nd quiz question will work just fine.  It seems that loading the engage swf causes a problem for the quiz questions that come after it .
Has anyone had this type of problem?
    thanks in advance. - Mike

    Hi Mike!
I actually ran into a problem similar to what you've written about here.
Here's a suggestion to try; you may experience weird / unexpected results, but it may be worth a try....and who knows, it could help!
    Here goes:
Rather than using one quiz container for your content / course, what I'd like you to do is break up "non-contiguous" question slides into totally separate quiz containers.  I think what you need to avoid is having any kind of flash interactions from Engage running between a set of question slides stemming from one quiz container.
So instead of having a question on slide 5, an Engage interaction on slide 6 and another question on slide 7.....I want you to try breaking that up so that it looks like this:
Question on slide 5 [from quiz container 1], Engage interaction, question on slide 7 [from quiz container 2]...and so on.
Here's the deal: I've personally seen instances where adding custom Flash animations between question slides have caused some interference with the functionality of question slides.  Even though you're using a totally different product, Engage still employs code parameters that can cause some breakdowns as soon as you publish your Adobe Presenter content, and I think that's what's happening here.  To be brutally honest, I don't have Engage, but I'd be willing to bet it's causing the same problems that I've encountered with Flash animations that I've tried to incorporate into my Presenter content.
So again, try breaking up the question slides into separate, independant quiz containers and see if that resolves the problem....I'd be curious to know if that works!

  • How to import multiple files linked to swf into captivate?

    Hi all
I am trying to import a flash swf animation into captivate 5.5. I figured it should be straight forward by going Insert > Animation, but the animation doesn't do what it is meant to. I think this is because the swf file is associated with a number of images, audios and an xml file. I thought if I got all the files into the Captivate library it might work, but I've only been able to import the images and audio not the xml file (Import > XML tells me Captivate can't import xml). I'm not sure what to do to get the animation playing.
    Any responses appreciated.
    Thanks Peter

    Hi Peter,
Importing an animation that has certain required files like graphics and aurido and XMl scattered would not work if each broght sepeartely to library, what is assumed while you do Insert--Animation is that the animation has all the required components embedded in itself.
seo, you can check of the source file can be modified to produce a single flash file that has all required assets embedded in itself.
    Thanks,
    Anjaneai

  • Need Help - Inserting articulate engage swf in a published Presenter presentaiton.

Hello.  I am having tremendous difficulty publishing articulate engage swf's in my adobe presenter presentation.  I have done this before but for some reason i am having trouble now.  When i publish my presentation locally, the output from presenter changes the name of my swf files to embedded_flash_... with a number at the end.  My question is how can i tell what presenter has renamed the indidual swf files. I have to change the name of the content folder from engage to match so i need to know which slide has which swf.  I have several swf files in the presentation and keeping track of them is quite difficult.
Is there a way to click on slide with a swf on it to determine what presenter has renamed it? Swf  Properties or View shockwave object or something else?????
    Thanks Mike
