I got into a mode in which i can't edit

the artboard is encircled by a red outline, and istead of editing existing text - if i click on a text box - i only get a tool from tool panel.
how do i get back to editing?

That's what I was afraid of.
Outlining is an option that converts text to shapes. It is no longer text as far as Illustrator is concerned, it is just filled paths. There is no simple option to convert BACK to editable text.
This is why I suggest you try to retreive an earlier version, either by undoing or by going to backup of the original file.
Do you have any kind of backup utility on your PC? For example, the Mac has a system-level feature called "Time Machine". Your PC may have something similar.
The only other option I know of, is to "Optical Character Read" (OCR) a copy of your file to convert it back to text. Adobe Acrobat Pro will do this. You may need to export a high resolution TIF file, though, to do that.
Or, of course, retype the text.
Maybe someone here has a better idea.

I thought you could still restore using iTunes on your computer. iTunes would download iOS 7.0.4 (current version) then restore from there. Of course, this assumes you are using a reasonably current version of iTunes.
Anyway, if I'm wrong and you cannot restore, try recovery mode descrbied here. Note you may have to try to get into recovery mode more than once.

Hi all, i am severely tempted to purchase the Numbers App, i already have the Pages App.
But i am curious to know why, in Finder i can open a numbers file and view it perfectly ok, of course i do know i cant do much else with it LOL.
BUT if i open Numbers from the Applications folder in Finder, all i get is the screen that tells me my free trial has ended, and it wont open at all.
i thought that strange, but anyway, i will probably buy it from the same place i got Pages from the App Store for £11.99, good value i do believe.

The license of the trial version clearly state that when it is expired we may use it as a reader of existing documents.
What may be required, is to apply the late updates but it's an other problem.

What do you mean by "adjust"? Editing of Photoshop images should be done in Photoshop.
Sure, it's possible to save individual layers from an image in Photoshop as inidvidual files in a variety of formats, but what's the point? You could just as easily import the layered file, then copy/paste it into a new layer for each layer in the image and use layer visibility to control which ones show. I don't think that will do you a lot of good, though, if you use adjustment layers or opacity controls on the layer in Photoshop.

My iphone is showing albums which I can't edit and which aren't in iCloud. Are they from the old MobileMe gallery?

I have cracked my iphone screen and I am backing up my phone. I see a few albums on my phone which aren't backing up and I don't appear to be able to edit or do anything with them on the phone. They then aren't appearing in iphoto after I have backed up.
They look like they could be from my old mobile me gallery, but I thought this had merged with icloud. Are the images from mobile me saved somewhere else?

You may need to use an app like PhotoSync to wirelessly transfer them to your computer. Unlike importing to iPhoto, PhotoSync will transfer photos from any folder on your phone to your computer. (It will also transfer photos from your computer to any album on your phone.)

Booting into safe mode

We have just acquired a sparcstation 4, but have not got a Sun monitor to use it with. We can't set it up because we can't see anything to set it up!!
Does anyone know a keyboard shortcut to boot into safe mode so that we can get started with it? We are going in ever decreasing circles at the moment.

"safe mode" is peculiar to Microsoft's OS's.
From Win95 through WinME, you'd end up in 640x480 resolution, while Win2k and WinXP get you into (I think) a default 800x600 graphical resolution.
The closest equivalent for a Solaris-based system would be to boot to single-user mode.
But all that would accomplish is that you end up
in a command-line non-graphical environment, at Sun's default screen resolution.
As Michael has noted, that default is 1152x900 at a vertical refresh rate of 66Hz.
That is particularly true for a SPARCstation 4, which was discontinued in 1997.
If you interrupted POST and halted the system at OBP, you would still be in a 1152x900 screen mode.
Think back... mid-1990's ...
PC's were rarely configured beyond 1024x768, while Sun was already at a higher resolution.
For the near forseeable future,
you may have no recourse but to TIP into the system,
as per the sticky forum posts.
The framebuffer options for such an old system are so few,
with such a limited ability for different resolutions,
that you're likely going to need a more capable monitor, or run it remotely as a headless system.

IPhone 5 going into recovery mode

My iphone has been continously shutting off and going into recovery mode. I sometimes can get lucky and turn it back on, but my phone will randomly freeze and turn off again. I have just restored my phone this morning, and minutes after I got it up and running it shut off again. Sometimes the apple logo appears and just fades to black. I have not jailbroken or tampered with this phone in any way. It has also not been dropped. It is still under warranty, so I am thinking about replacing it. Any suggestions? Is there a known cause for this problem? Thanks.

When you restored it did your restore from a back up? Try restoring it to factory settings! If the issue/problem was in the software it could be in the backup and when you restore and put the back up on the phone you are just putting the problem right back on....

Login screen comes up repeatedly, booting into safe mode by default

I have an iMac (Lion 10.8) that is having a lot of trouble. I manage an Elementary School's IT fleet. At the end of last year, the computer was booting into Safe Mode by default. Once the system came up, the teacher could use it - but it took so long to boot that she chose not to. The teacher left the school, and I was planning to just format it and reimage. Here is what I have happening.
Boots into safe mode on it's own
Once it's done booting, the login screen shows up - but entering any credentials just gets a grey screen, and the login screen comes right back. Even root. Which means I can't get logged into the computer at all.
Recovery mode will not allow me to erase the drive, says failed and not able to access the drive.
Target mode will also not allow me to erase the drive, nor will it allow me to push over an image. Scanning the drive failed, busy.
Disk repair says unable to repair disk - please format.
These are the things I have tried.
Reset PRAM (three times over the course of troubleshooting)
Replaced the RAM completely
Unplugged 15 seconds trick
Accessing via Target mode - Drive is greyed out, but shows up
Ran FSCK manually, and it completed
Tried to do a netinstall, but the disk does not show up in netboot as an option.
I thought maybe the drive was bad, but considering that it will boot into safe mode eventually (although you can't login), and FSCK completed successfully - I'm just not sure! I just thought I'd pick your brains. I'm usually a Windows \ Linux Administrator, so this Apple business is new to me I'm learning! Although I find them frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Some part of the disk may be bad while others are good. i/o could be trying multiple times and eventually succeeding.
Ran FSCK manually, and it completed
You run FSCK in single user mode? This is very surprising. FSCK verifies the filesystem is in order. Actual data blocks could be bad. Would be a surprise if no file system blocks were not also bad.
Except for this fact, it seems like a hd problem. Intermediate problem. Heat problem, etc.
Time to try a different hd. See if that works. Could be some other hardware problem. Try external drive/flash drive, etc.

My G4 goes into sleep mode without warning

My G4 has started all of a sudden to got into sleep mode with out warning while in use. The power button on the front fades in and out after it does this. All power saving options are set to "never". As a last resort, I removed the battery on the mother board for 10 minutes (with the power unplugged) and reinstalled the battery and tested it but the problem is still the same.. Does anyone out there have a clue?

If you have issues with a Mac or display that goes to sleep at inappropriate times, you may have a problem with Energy Saver. Delete the following .plist files and restart:-/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
-/Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist--
(username is your name or System Administrators name)
-/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.AutoWake.plist
A restart is very important after deleting these plists. After a reboot your Mac will then generate new ones.
Some, in these forums, have had luck fixing sleep issues downloading the Combo update from this site (yours may be corrupt), not Software Update, disconnect all firewire + USB devices except keyboard + mouse, Repair Permissions, re-install update, Repair Permissions again + try.

G4 going into sleep mode every 30 seconds

hello all-
I have been having a really nagging problem which I think may be owing to the recent 10.4.10 upgrade (since the problem didn't occur before then). Maybe someone else knows if the OS upgrade is the offender here, or something else.
Anyway- after about an hour to 90 minutes of use, my G4 PowerBook goes into sleep mode unannounced. It can be brought back out of sleep by holding down the power button, but it will go right back to sleep again within a minute's time, and will continue doing this indefinitely (as I discovered when trying to bail out all my recent documents, just in case.)
-I've tried starting the system in safe mode to get rid of unnecessary caches etc., which didn't do the trick.
-I've tried using the system while running on battery power and when connected to a charger.
-I also looked at similar problems on this forum, regarding the 'disk sleep timer' .plist. I can't find this exact file under /Library/Preferences/SystemConfig/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist, so perhaps that has something to do with it?
-I also made sure the display and computer settings were set to the maximum 'never turn off' level.
So! Any ideas? Is this a problem exclusive to 10.4.10? Thanks in advance.

Ok, I've followed your advice, gone into the system log, and I think I've isolated the problem (judging from the times that the message was received) to the following:
Jul 30 12:17:55 MyHD kernel[0]: Power Management received
emergency overtemp signal. Going to sleep.
I'm baffled why it would be receiving an overheated signal- the computer is in a cool environment, and on all occasions when it went into these sudden sleeps, it was running a bare minimum of applications. No external hard drives, printers, or anything else connected, either.
Anyway, looks like at least the probem has been identified. This would explain why the problem only occurs after the computer has been in use for an hour or two.
