a while ago we got an ipod touch 2. my son and daughter tried to guess my security code too many times, to the point where i need to plug it into my itunes to unlock. i remember the passcode from year ago. however, we got rid of the old laptop with it's original itunes. what can i do to unlock it?

Connect the device to the new iTunes library in recovery mode and restore it to factory settings. There are no other alternatives. Here are steps for getting your iPod Touch into recovery mode.

That error message means that your new iPod is not fully updated. Update the new iPod and then restore from the backup of your old iPod.

I have the 5 th generation ipod at the mo and after enabling indexing I can search this using spotlight.

Have you tried a hard reset yet? To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
