I had 2 iphones 3gs because the first one broke, but now i got it fixed, so I sold the new one.
I restored the iphone before selling it. However the person that bought the Iphone tells me that she cannot access her Itunes with it because I tunes still shows my email address and asks her to put in my password. what do i need to do? Do I have to deregister the iphone?

Tell her to select Restore under the Summary tab for the iPhone sync preferences.
This will completely erase the iPhone first followed by the firmware being reinstalled. After the firmware is re-installed, she will be prompted to restore from the iPhone's backup, which is the default selection - assuming there is a backup for this iPhone available on her computer.
The other selection which must be manually selected is as a new iPhone or not from the iPhone's backup.

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your phone. Only if you back up manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your device without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPhone for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.

Content bought with an Apple ID is forever associated with that Apple ID. Apple will not transfer content from one Apple ID to another and Apple will not merge Apple IDs. Unless you are prepared to forfeit all the previously purchased content and buy it all again with the new Apple ID, you will need to maintain the old ID to update and redownload your content.

When you saw this dialog box, did you choose "Erase and Sync"?
If you did, your iPhone was erased, then your iTunes Library was transferred to it. If your iTunes Library was empty, your iPhone will be also.
Your previously purchased music, apps, books, and videos are still yours. You just have to download them again.

Tim is correct.
But, first step with 3GS white screen and most iPhone problems is Reset, hold both home and power buttons until iPhone begins to restart itself, usually about 10 seconds of holding both buttons. If still white screen.
Next step would be Restore the iPhone Firmware with iTunes on your computer. If still white screen.
Next step would be to follow Tim's advice, if you had not already.

Sometimes the activation server is just not available for a short time. Trying again usually corrects this problem. But as Peter Gillespie suggests, if the iPhone you are trying to activate has ever been jailbroken, or the computer you are using to activate the phone has been used to jailbreak an iOS device then you will get the Activation Server not Available message.

If you restore to an older backup, you will get the content that is in the backup. Everything on the iPhone will be erased and you will be brought back to the time that backup was made. In one of the help pages for managing your Apple ID (http://support.apple.com/kb/HE40), it shows two separate sections, one for Apple ID and one for Primary Email address. When I go to manage my Apple ID, I see only a single section for both. Can the two be 'separated', especially when you face the situation of having to discontinue your email address for some reason?
I also noticed that when navigating to Apple ID Support Communities, it shows my nickname 'dishdy'. How and when did I insert this? In the current sequence for creating an Apple ID I don't see this. In my current profile I don't see this.
In any case, I have freed myself from my previous Apple ID (@artemis.it) on my iPhone.

Paul--you are a life-saver!! Worked great. I did have to look around to make sure I was getting 4.9 instead of 4.7 (even when the file was named 4.9 at techspot.com), but I finally got the right file, did the install as you suggested, and everything is now fine. One note, though, that I haven't seen mentioned in any of this thread: when I first tried to open up iTunes after getting back to 4.9, the following message appeared: "The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." I merely went to the old .itl file that was created when I did the update to iTunes 5, renamed it, moved it over to my now new 4.9, and iTunes opened fine. My library was a few days out of date, because of the few days' lag from the time I did the iTunes update, but that was easily taken care of, and everything's now working fine. Thanks again!!!
