  • How can I find the serial number of my stolen MacBook Pro?

    Hi,
I had my 2009 Macbook Pro stolen about 10 months ago. I didn't think I'd see it again until last last it showed up on my "Find My Phone" App, in Vietnam.
I locked it straight away and sent a message to the screen with my email address.
The person who had it worked at a computer shop and contacted me straight away.
He understands its stolen and wants to help but he will only give it to the police. And the Vietnamese police want my serial number to proove its mine before they will send it back to me.
I don't have a copy of the recpiet or serial number. I've been to the iStudio where I bought it and thier records start 1 month after I purcahsed it.
I've tried the https://supportprofile.apple.com page and for some reason my macbooks are not registered on there. All my other apple products are.
Is there any other way I can retrieve my serial number?
It's conected to the icloud and the app and I've made puchases on iTunes from it.
Any help would be very much appreciated
    Many Thanks

    No.

  • Finding a stolen Macbook Pro

    Hello fellow Apple users.
So, as noted, my Macbook Pro had been stolen like 3 or 4 months ago. I had the device connected on Find my iPhone via icloud.com
When my device was stolen, I immediately went on icloud.com and selected "Play a sound" and other options that were available. But the problem was, the device was not connected to the internet. So I went on with time, bought myself a new Macbook Pro and forgot about that one a little... But today, I got a mail from Find my iPhone, that a sound was played on that stolen Macbook Pro. Now I went quickly on icloud, but the device was no longer on my list, so someone probably reset it. Is there anything I could to, to at least get to know the location of it when the sound played or maybe it's current location? Thank you for your help!

My iMac was stolen 2 weeks ago and I just got the same emails, one that a sound played on it and another that it is locked.
According to the Find my iPhone app, shouldn't you be able to see the location for 24 hours, even if they went offline again? My device is still showing on my list, just offline. Now I have less than 24 hours to figure out why I can't see the last location...
    Any feedback would be appreciated.

  • Stolen macbook pro, offline, no serial #, not registered...help!

I have a dire looking situation with a stolen macbook pro. It was stolen from me in an airport and its offline, no luck with icloud. I did not keep the box, nor the receipt (as i was traveling), I had not even registered it yet, it was brand new, and now I have no idea where to find the serial number.  I contacted Best Buy (bought off their website) to see if they keep serial numbers on sales, they said they didn´t, as I didnt have thier protection plan.
Am I completely out of luck??

    andreaceleste,
did you pay for it with a credit card? If so, that might be your only remaining proof of having purchased one at all. Of course, that won’t reveal what its serial number is. You’ll need to report its theft to whichever police force is in charge of that airport to have any chance of reïmbursement through your insurance company — be sure to keep all information provided to you by that police force, so that you can provide that information to your insurance company.

  • Is it possible to track down your stolen MacBook Pro if it not connected to wifi or on your Apple ID?

Hi I've had my New MacBook Pro stolen before I got a chance to put it on my Apple ID?
Is it traceable even tho it's not connected to the net?

    No, it is not traceable.
Contact your insurance company and check to see if your credit card company offers coverage for this. Some do. You should also report it to law enforcement. You will need the serial number for this. If you don't have it, contact whoever sold it to you, they may be able to get the s/n.
    Best of luck.

  • How do you track a stolen MacBook Pro with iCloud?

How do you track stolen MacBook Pro with iCloud

If you had set up Find My Mac on your MacBook before it was stolen, go to http://www.icloud.com and log in, then press Find My <Something> there.
If you did not set up Find My Mac, it's too late now.  You cannot track it.

  • Anyway of tracking a stolen macbook pro?

anyway of tracking a stolen macbook pro?

I believe that find my iphone also works over icloud for laptops. If it's connected to the internet, just go online and look up find my iphone, and it'll show your device (even though its not an iphone) on a map.

  • Find Stolen MacBook Pro

I have registered the MacBook Pro with my apple Id, and I see that the MacBook is offline and cannot be located in the find my iPhone app.
If the thief reloads the operating system will I still be able track the MacBook because logically the serial number should remains the same.
Please do let me know as I have a lot of personal data in it.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Bharath.

    Hi..how about your finding?any news?
Mine also lost almost 6month now. Today i found one website
That can track our stolen macbook pro just using serial number.
Now i am studying the patterns of my macbook pro location... Until
I confirm the location exactly, i will ask the thief to give back since
I still got a police report and my macbook pro box.

  • Is it possible to find the mac adress of my stolen macbook pro?

Is it possible to find the mac adress of my stolen macbook pro? I've mad ea research an found out that the Mac Adress is really important to trace the device. But it's too late to check that on my laptop.. What should i do?

I understand that. But about your only shot without the box is to supply Apple with the serial number and ask them for the MAC info. My thought was if you can supply the serial number it's more proof that you're the owner. There's really no other way to get it without their help.

  • Can i erase my stolen macbook pro with find my mac even if it states the device was locked on a specific date (not by me) after being stolen?

Can i erase my stolen macbook pro with find my mac even if it states the device was locked on a specific date (not by me) after being stolen?

Barry, the other stolen computer, my IMac does not show me a locked on such and such date, but simply says offline.  I set that computer to erase when it goes online and notify me when it is found, and to play a tone and play a message that the police are on their way!

  • Trying to track my stolen Macbook pro...any ideas will help?

Our home was recently broken into they made off with 2 Mac. One was a Macbook Pro purchased in 2009, and a New IMac desk top monitor (dummies left the mouse and key board). We hadent downloaded any type of "ifind" apps to either computer, that we know of. However i feel strongly that there has to be a way to track one, if not both, of these computers. Everything with Macs needs to be registered. So if there are any ideas suggestions on how i might have a chance at finding our stolen items. it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Design3r

My Macbook Pro 13.3" was taken by a taxi driver in Kathmandu, Nepal. I had bought it from Toronto. (I have information about an appointment day and time at an Apple Store in Toronto; I don't have the serial number of the macbook; Can that appointment time at the Apple store for repairs will be able to find me the serial no.? Please advise and help).
Meanwhile I opened my Twitter account last week and found that someone had edited my Twitter details and has put his school name, his first name and the city name (Kathmandu) and had tweeted from my account. I found him from facebook and got his last name. From his pictures in Facebook I got the area. I went to that area and could find the house. I got the help of the police who raided his house. That was a young boy of 12 who was apparently trying to open a Twitter account on my macbook but I had my password saved.
When the police interrogated that child he told that he used to use a cyber cafe which has been closed down, but the owner was his Facebook friend. From his Facebook account we got the phone number of that cyber cafe owner and got the call details. But meanwhile at one police station an officer called him directly and ordered him to come to the police station. He came with a small acer laptop and pleaded innocent. The matter was referred to cyber crime branch of Kathmandu police. Now they are asking me to bring the IP address when my twitter account was opened on January 17th.
I am confused how to go about it. 90% investigation has been done by me but the police are not ready to do the rest 10%. Please let me know how can I find the IP address when my Twitter account was opened on January 17th? How can I get the serial number of my Macbook? Will the serial number be of any help in locating the Macbook? My Macbook was logged on to my name, can anyone log me off and use his own id to use the Macbook or will my name stay on it always for life? Please help with your advice. I have spent a lot of money on this matter.

  • Stolen macbook pro - any help?

I have applecare on my mac and remaining 3years left, any advice on measures to take?
Also i received an itouch for christmas but now my itunes library is clear as only have my BF's old windows pc to use, is there anyway i can retrieve my music and unsync from the stolen mac, i am a aerobics teacher so desperately need my music!!
This question has probably been asked loads of times but i would appreciate any help!
    Thank you
    Katie

Do you use iCloud?  If so did you active "Find my mac"? http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/find-my.html.
If not, your best bet is to call your local police department and report it, ensuring your provde the serial number of the computer.  This should be on our receipt, or the box the computer originally came in.
Call Apple care.  They can not help you with stolen computers, as they have no way of verifying your computer was actually stollen, as anyone can buy a computer on EBay, and this is not illegal.  They must take the "word" of the person calling in, that it is their computer.  However.....you can provide them with your name, and ask if that is the name registered to the computer.  They will not provide any info on who it may be registered to, but can verify it is not you.
If the theif does register it under their name, or the new owner does, you can then notify your local police department, and they can contact Apples Legal department with this information.
For your iTunes data, if the computer is not recovered you will lose this data when you attempt to syn your device with another computer.   Did you back up your iTunes library?  If you used Time Machine,  you can restore "just the iTunes Library" or all of your data to a new computer.
If not, contact the iTunes store via their email web site, and expain the situation.  They may be able to "re-grant" data, however you must request this, and see if it is something they can do. http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/

  • Stolen Macbook Pro- possible recovery?

Is there any way I can get my macbook pro back after it was stolen and someone else is using it?
My macbook pro was stolen about a week ago. I haven't been able to track it because the computer was never online.
I signed onto my iCloud account tonight and found that someone had signed into my computer. They changed the name of my computer to their nickname and they also turned off the location settings. Is there anything I can do to get it back?
I just started my first of my final two semesters of my undergrad and am really struggling without a computer. I use the library on campus but it's not always accessible since I work 5 nights a week and live 10 miles from campus.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi ...
Sorry to hear your Mac was stolen espcially since you're using it for your education.
Report the theft >  Reporting a lost or stolen Apple product
And try here >  iCloud: Locate your device

  • Stolen MacBook Pro..how can I track it if older OS X than Lion?

Had my MacBook Pro stolen yesterday.  Is there a way to track it, if OSX is older than Lion?

The only way to track it is if you had Find My Mac, or similar, setup/activated/turned on BEFORE it was stolen. Otherwise, there is no way to track it.
Report to police/insurance...chane your passwords. Use this as well:

You are very welcome, we are all here to help and glad to be of assistance.
The biggest risk to publishing the SN is that some unscrupulous people can then use the SN to play registration games and claim to own your equipment.  Plus there are other issues with people on the internet knowing the SN and accessing the equipment, i.e., hacking your computer.
Since we are all fellow users on here and not Apple employees, there is nothing we can do with the SN to help, so just protect yourself by not putting that info out there.  Of course, that advice is not unique to the ASC, it applies to any and all discussion boards.  Keep private information private.
    Just some thoughts on security.
