Change how it syncs by enabling Manually manage music and videos, then you can drag and drop the music that you want on your iPhone. Revert it back to test to see if that resolves the issue.

Turn your phone off and connect your cable to the computer, but not the device just yet. Start up iTunes. Now, hold down the home button on your phone and plug it in to the cable - don't let go of the button until iTunes tells you it's detected a phone in recovery mode. Now you can restore to factory settings.
Unfortunately, the data on your phone is already gone if you're seeing the connect to iTunes logo.

Troubleshooting on Windows

The "hosts" file may be blocking the iTunes Store
Microsoft's article How do I reset the hosts file back to the default? has instructions and a "FixIt" to have Windows try to reset the hosts defaults for you.
Note: Some workplaces may put internal resources in the hosts file but may also use it to block iTunes Store.
To create a copy of your hosts file and replace it with an empty hosts file, follow the instructions for your operating system below.

Back it up and restore it using iTunes on the last computer it was synced with, as explained at the bottom of this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212. This will remove the passcode; at the end of the restore process you will be given the option to restore to the backup you made at the beginning.

Try this.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

If any of the music files didn't come from Apple, then you will need to seek the advice of another Mac website, like MacRumors or Apple Insider, to inquire about the latest third party software that can place ALL the files back onto the Mac.
Supposedly there is a way to reverse only iTunes purchased music back onto a Mac, it excludes the music from other sources.

Basically i desperatley need this to work for research and
revision etc.
Firstly i clicked on a website asking me to download it, so i
did so, i then went back to the corresponding webpage and it didn't
register that i had done so.
I then decided to restart both the internet and my computer
to see if this worked. it did not.
i then decided to try and re-download the content, several
times, changing settings as i went. Nothing seems to work!
I have Windows Vista, Home Basic and the new internet
explorer thing. I have also enabled ActiveX programmes etc.
Please help if you can!
