I need to find a quick and easy download PPC application for someone on this forum who is having problems in Snow Leopard and I want to rule out that it is PPC that is the problem. I had suggested he download Appleworks for this purpose; ooooops!

I am almost positive that the problem is that his game was released in 2003 when OS X was 10.2.x and it just will NOT function in Snow Leopard without some patch or upgrade.
I am getting my hands on a copy of this game tomorrow, so I will go down that path for him, too!

I recently had to reinstall the factory settings on my laptop and lost all songs in itunes but they'e on my phone. how do i get them back on my phone its so frustrating.

Previously I could drag and drop my songs from desktop to folder, I had to get iTunes 10.4 could that be the cause of my frustrating attempts to get my songs back to iTunes library?
i am also unable to see previously dowmloaded application in itunes. If i select manage songs manually would that require syncing of the two and therefore losing the songs on my phone?

Hi. The two user tips both describe a sequence of steps that should get your library from the point where it threatens to wipe data from your device to where it is syncing normally, while recovering as much information as possible. It may still be necessary to wipe and reload the device but this should only take place once all the data that can be recovered has been recovered.
Doing step 1 of 8 and then complaining things aren't the way you want them to be yet strikes me as premature...
Since you appear to have all your media content, and we are discussing an iPod classic, not an iOS device, the main worries are already taken care of. What's left is ratings, playcounts, playlist membership and checked status. Since your device holds only part of your library at best you could only recover the missing data for the content that is on the device using third party tools.
Recreating the previous checked/unchecked status of every track in your library from where you are now may not be that easy. Syncing with selected playlists has many advantages, one of which would have been that you would have a named playlist that could have been retrieved by 3rd party software if you had used this method.
You haven't explained what caused your problem in the first place, but if you have a Previous iTunes Libraries folder holding old copies of your iTunes database (generated with each iTunes update) then it would be possible to restore the most recent of these and then update the library with any changes in your media folder.
BTW Apple doesn't offer free support for this kind of issue with iTunes.

All of your apps should be in iTunes on the computer, simply sync them back.
If they are not, go into the purchase history and download them again.

However, I had my music on my iPhone as well so I assumed it will sync. It did sync but not the way I thought, so I lost years of music and favorite uploaded CDs. How can I recover it? I lknow you can acess iTunes from 4 computers so the database is there somewhere. Unfortunately all I was able to recover is the music purchased from iTunes directly. It makes me wonder about the iCloud product; if I cannot find my music what is my incentive to buy iCloud? It seems like they are starting to charge for something that they provided before freely, then messed up the updates and software so that we need to pay for this service now.

iCloud never stored music. That is what the iTunes Match service is for.
The only way to get back non-iTunes-purchased music is to import them to your new iTunes library however you did it on your old computer.

~ Someone suggested putting Installer disks in comp and pressing 'C' and use Disk Utilities to fix it

Hi, chibibee. To have lost everything that was on your hard drive, you must have reinstalled the OS using the Erase & Install option. If that's the case, the whole hard drive was erased, meaning that the directory in which the locations of all your files were recorded is gone, and all the space they occupy has been designated available for reuse. But except for what was overwritten with the software you installed, what was there beforehand is still there, and may be recoverable using data recovery software such as Data Rescue II or FileSalvage. Each is available in a free demo version that will identify all the files you would be able to recover with the paid full version. Note that you must run these programs from a drive other than the one containing the data you're trying to recover (each can be purchased on a bootable CD), and you must have a second hard drive on which to save all the files you recover: you can't save them on the drive they're being recovered from.

I reinstalled my operating system (Win 7 Ultimate) and lost all my Firefox data. I had Xmarks, so I got all my book marks back, but I also had gotten another one when Xmarks said they were going to fold (which I can't remember the name of).
The last few times when I reinstalled my OS (which was years ago), there was some place where I could enter a 16-digit PIN and all my passwords, add-ons, etc, would come back...or at least that's how I remember it.
What am I missing to get the passwords back? And all of my add-ons/extensions?

Did you register with Firefox Sync? If so, perhaps you have the Recovery Key?

Then, this article describes how to retrieve information stored on the Sync server from a new computer using your recovery key. BTW, I'm assuming you didn't back up your hard drive on a regular basis. If you did, you would be able to get a lot closer to your previous setup. The critical stuff would be under the C:\Users\''yourusername''\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ path.

Ive gotten the question mark icon thing, and I just took them off the dock and redragged them onto the dock from the Applications folder again and they worked fine. Mine were a couple of game type programs nothing major yet. Just wanted to throw that out there though since I had that happen with a few dock icons.

I'm not aware of any, not to say that there aren't any issues.
it may have nothing to do with ntpd, there are a lot of things running.
ntpd just happen to make the log entry at the same time as the panic.
I would check to see if there are any updates available for you system.
if this is the first time that this has happened. it may be (pick one):
cosmic rays
sun spots
the trilateral commission
if this happens more frequently and that traces look the same, then
there may be a real problem that needs to be looked into further.

Hi, original poster here. I did not realize this would generate more discussion so I never checked back. I still had my warranty, so I took it to the store and got it repaired. The original problem I had was a screen with this icon flashing when I attempted to boot it up:
When I took it to the store, they told me that my computer was unable to communicate with the hard drive. I had this same problem three times in two months where this screen reappeared. Each time I went back to the store and they said the cause was different, but they were all hardware issues that physically made it impossible to communicate with the hard drive. After the third time, they simply replaced my laptop and I haven't had the same problem.
So in short: The reason you can't reinstall or move anything when you encounter this screen appears to be because nothing can communicate with the hard drive in the first place. You can't reach the disk or anything on it. So I don't believe it's possible to do anything besides take it to a physical store and have it fixed.
