  • Voice Over: How to set Recording Range in Target ?

    Hi guys,
I need help on Voice Over. I have been doing Voice Over without problem.
But now I need help bcos I stumbled upon a new & irritating problem.
    QUESTION 1:
When I select Voice Over, I cannot click the RED button to start recording because at the Audio File in Target (just the above the space we are supposed to type the filename), it says:
    "No Recording Range set"
Previously, it automatically select A1, A2, A3 or A4 at random but this time it didn't and instead it says "No recording Range Set".
    What happened to system ?
    QUESTION 2:
How do I specifically set it to output to a track of my choice ?
    Thanks

Thanks Ian & Tom for the well explained answers. Now I understand.
    But I got another sub-problem.
Like Tom says, it will create another track if there is not enough room. But what I did is slightly different.
Ok, here is what I did. Not wanting to disturb the position of the rest of the voice-over clip, I locked all the audio tracks.
When I did a voice over, it push down a3 to a5, and a4 to a6 so I have two new unlock audio tracks in a3 and a4 where the system placed the voice over clip. When I finally put the voice over clip the the correct position in a5 and a6, I ended up with 2 blank audio tracks.
How do I delete these audio tracks ? I tried right-click and select delete track but the empty tracks remained there.
How do I delete the unwanted tracks, then ?
    Thanks

  • Voice-overs: How to *automatically* remove breaths, clicks; improve voice?

Hi, i edit voice-overs for tutorials (not commercials) in Audition CC 2014. I know how to manually edit out
    - breathing, inhalation (just ahead of a new sentence)
    - clicks
I've read some and tried some, but still don't know how to
    - edit out breathing *automatically*
    - edit out clicks automatically
    - do "fade out – almost silence – fade in" automatically
    - give more substance to my voice with a filter
When editing out breathing manually, usually i replace breathing by "silence" (don't simply cut it away). But sometimes i would like to replace breathing by "fade out – almost silence – fade in", which sounds more natural. I can do this manually (and assigned keys F1, F2, F3 to the three commands); but can i do "fade out – almost silence – fade in" automatically?
My initial recording is not too bad, but i want to give my voice a little more "substance". I tried the recommended "Broadcast" filter, but it sounds to flashy and aggressive. There is another filter called "Male Voice" (or some such), but it seems not to change anything.
    I also wonder: If i
    - use a filter
    - edit clicks and breathing manually,
should i apply the filter before the manual editing? I think i should, because breathing and clicks sound different after filter and shoul be judged with filter applied. But then – if i decide to remove the filter, it would be better to apply it at last.
    So here are my questions:
    - Is there a controlled way to remove breathing and clicks automatically?
    - Which filter gives my male voice more substance without "blasting"?
    - How to "fade out – almost silence – fade in" automatically?
    Thanks!

Steve, thanks for more good advice including positioning of the mic!
I am just an amateur - a text writer who was forced by ruthless customers to not just produce manuscripts, but also video tutorials, w/out knowing how to, but wishing not to sound as "garage" and "panting" as many others on YouTube (apart from "verbose"). So for my "productions", i write, speak and edit all in one.
The microphone is a USB Blue Yeti, which looks roughly like a tabletop lamp. It seems popular. I set it to one-directional recording (only front direction.) I have tried about ten different mics, including even more expensive headsets, but i get the rather most consistent results with the Yeti. I also use a windshield (got better recordings after starting to use it) and for recording, i build some kind of tent with woollen blankets on top of a table (so that i can stand upright and talk in a "muted" space). Before and while talking, i will drink buckets of warm water or herbal tea perhaps with fresh lemon, nothing cold, no coffee/black tea/dairies; i've experienced this helps. I've still to understand how to harrumph best.
On the laptop used for audio recording i can't run Audition, but i record with the freeware Audacity (is that audacious?), save as .flac and edit on a different PC in Audition.
On the expensive headset microphones i tried, i heard more breathing and – to my surprise – more up and down in volume. I have some, but less, variations in volume also with the Blue Yeti files; so sometimes in Audition i have to change a single sentence by 1,5 or 2,5 dB. I wish that could be done automatically, but perhaps it can?
Previously you also said that breathing is natural and should stay in the audio. I don't want to fully keep the breathing in – that might be ok for some emotional music or movie, but not for tutorials. But i'd prefer to lower rather than fully suppress breaths; that's why i asked for automatic "fade out – almost silence – fade in". I can do this by selecting three different bits of audio and then select three different commands (now by keyboard shortcuts). But it's too much clicking and i might simply glue silence over most of the exhaust sound.
I've also tried to wear a headphone during voice recording, closed as well as open headphones. It confused me no end, i was literally speechless (very unpro i guess). But i connect external speakers to the recording laptop and check on results immediately (and keep an eye on the volume levels in Audacity).
I will print your instructions for microphone positioning and try to follow them exactly next time. But i wasn't much off anyway.
    Thanks again!

  • Voice over: How do I read text? If the VO-Shift-Up and then VO-A don't work?

    Hi,
All the Voice Over posts say stuff like
When you get to a "Text Content" or "HTML Content" box, you have to "interact with" it by pressing Ctrl-Option-Shift-Down Arrow. If it doesn't immediately start reading, press Ctrl-Option-A."  (quoted from Archie's post)
and tell you to take the tutorial.
    I've taken the tutorial.
For non-web documents-- my students .doc file and .pdfs which I need to read--  pressing Ctrl-Option-Shift-Down Arrow, followed by press Ctrl-Option-A. just doesn't do anything.
What am I doing wrong.   This is urgent as I am a professor, I need to get grades in and I can't see to read anymore!
    Thanks,
    -jr6g

Really? No one has an answer?  I can't think reading .doc and .pdf files are beyond what blind users can reasonably expect to do on a Mac.
My workaround is converting to HTML, but that's inadequate long term. However, if no one else posts anything perhaps the moderator will give me 10points for answering my own question.
    Thanks!

  • Double tap and voice over, how do I disable?

I have to hold my finger on whatever I want to use to "highlight" it and then double tap it to get it to open.  When this happened it also won't allow me to scroll down or up any more.  This also applies to my kindle app.  I can't turn the pages anymore.
As if this weren't frustrating enough a day later Siri now tells me EVERYTHING that comes up on the screen like I'm a blind person.  How the **** do I get these things off?  I tried asking Siri a bunch of different ways to disable but I don't know the correct wording.

    You turned VoiceOver on.
    Settings> General> Accessibility> turn VoiceOver Off.

  • Voice over on an ipad

I cannot activate voice over on an ipad 1. Is there a tutorial on it? I'm trying to set it up for a visually impaired person.

Have you checked in the manual? Please Get the iPad User Manual for iOS 5. I'm not even sure there is a voiceover on an iPad, but if there is the manual should be helpful.

  • Using iBooks and Voice Over

I have encountered a problem with iBooks on my iPad. When I activate Voice Over to read the book out loud, then iPad screen goes black.
I have found that the only way to restore the screen is to connect the iPad to my iMac and then change the settings.
    Any comments, please!

Try triple-tapping using three fingers on the device display to turn off screen curtain.

If your device has been jailbroken during the warranty, Apple will not service it.

  • Voice Over Help-How do I stop unwanted scrolling?

Okay so I've just discovered the voice over feature a few days ago and I've already learned the controls and have been using it for reading fanfiction on Safari because I'm too lazy to read it myself. My problem is that everytime I lock my screen or my battery runs low and it gives me a warning, **** even if I go to another tab or try to have a word defined for me, after I'm done the screen will annoyingly scroll to the top of the **** page! Leaving me to do that annoying three finger scroll thing to get all the way back to where I was. I've checked my setting to see if there was a way to make it stop but I couldn't find anything. I already searched it on the internet but most-**** if not all of the questions regarding the voice over is how to turn it off.
So can somebody please tell me there is a way to make it stop scrolling to top of the screen everytime I divert from the page I was originally on? I fear that there isn't and I'm going to but stuck with this annoying feature forever. Seriously why would the programmers program for that to happen? It has no usefulness that I can think of, if I wanted to scroll to the top of the page I would do so by using the two finger flick up.

Well that's good enough for me, I'm not as agitated as I was before about it. I actually found a way to stop it from scrolling up by quickly tapping the screen before it's to late. It's worked for everything except when I go to a new page and come back. I assume voice over was meant for a blind person and not a lazy person like me.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

  • How do I disable voice over from my ipad while it's locked?

How can I disable voice over from my ipad while it's locked? I accidentally activated it on my mum's ipad and now she's panicking! Haven't been able to put in her password so a little bit of help asap would be appreciated. Tried double tapping the passcode in but still didn't work! Thanks

How did you turn it on, via Settings or a triple-click of the home button ? You could try triple-clicking the home button and see if that turns it off, and if it does you can then change what a triple-click does via Settings > General > Accessibility > Triple-Click Home.
If that doesn't turn it off then you can either turn it off directly on the iPad (you need to use a tap-to-select and then double-tap to activate/type process and 3 fingered scrolling ; so to type a digit of the passcode tap the digit so that it gets a box around it and then double-tap it to type it) to go into Settings > General > Accessibility and turn VoiceOver 'off', or you can do it by connecting to your computer's iTunes : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4064

  • Does anyone know how to monitor a microphone when using Voice Over tool?

I use Final Cut studio in conjunction with an AJA Kona LHe card. Audio inputs are via the AJA. I monitor the output from FCP through the AJA card via a Samson C-Control (monitor matrix). Here's my problem. When I'm recording voice over, I am unable to monitor the sound from the microphone through the headphones (or speakers). There is definitely an audio feed being routed to the headphones as I am able to hear the audio cue countdown. The microphone is working fine too - when it comes to playing back the voice over through the headphones (or speakers), I can hear the track absolutely fine. Has anyone experienced the same problem... and do you know how to solve it? Many thanks, AW

its not that you've anything screwy going on .. this is the way it is engineered to work.
the pre-existing audio (and cues) is routed to the headphones but not the voice being recorded.
the solution is to use an audio mixer to monitor both the voice over and the timeline
