I hard restart after "less than a minute" wait for 30mins.

Im really curious of this will have an impact on my OS as it turns out it just stuck in that notification, so I hard restart it.
My problem is, is there any negative impact to my macbook pro of what I did?
I can use Mavericks fine as I can see, but I'm not sure if I did something not good that will cause future problems.

my recommendation stems mostly from what others have replied to similar posts. I personally think it is probably done, and a hard shut down and restart will probably work. but also see this good reply from WZZZ

When I open it, Firefox freezes after less than a minute of use. After waiting a few minutes, it unfreezes but then freezes again a few seconds later. This happens regardless of the website I'm on. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it and the problem didn't go away. I've even tried a clean reinstallation but it didn't work. This only happens on Firefox. IE and Safari work fine.

Yosemite 10.10.3 update stuck on 'less than a minute remaining' for 2 hours encounting?
    Anyone else having this?
Shall I just wait or can i force shut down or anything like that?
    Thanks.

I ended up having to force quit by holding down the power button after waiting 4 hours to see if it would resolve itself an load.
Wouldn't boot up properly, seemed to be stuck on the new apple logo with loading bar below so forced quit again and tried to restore form a time machine back up by holding cmd+R on restart. It said it was unable to do this so restarted again and it eventually started as normal and I was running 10.10.3 although I wasn't sure if the install was done correctly so did complete a restore from a time machine back up.
I think I will wait for another .1 update or just try again at a later date maybe.
    Thanks.

  • "Less than a minute remaining" for over a few hours with Migration Assistant

    Hi everyone,
I am migrating to a MBP Retina running latest 10.7. I am using migration assistant to import a user from my new Time Capsule.   It's stuck on "Less than a minute remaining" for over a few hours that I noticed it.  What should I do?
(Yes, I am on Wireless N and I do not own a ethernet adapter)
    Any help,suggestion, wait/not wait?
    Thanks,
    Chester

  • HT4796 I have has message saying less than a minute remaining (for about 20 minutes now...and the mac seems hung, curser wont move etc??

My migration assistant seem to have got hung up...the message says, less than a minute but that was 20 mintes ago.... the mouse wont move either now????

You may not have created a mess, it's possible you simply don't know where your data is after migrating. Had you followed the Setup Assistant's on-screen prompts when you initially turned on your new system you would be running just fine by now. My guess is you haven't been exposed to Pondini's Lion Setup Assistant tips.
Migration Assistant (MA) and Setup Assistant (SA) are cousins, similar but different. The primary difference is MA creates a new user account which can be confusing to some users. If you successfuly migrated then log out of your existing using account and you should see the new user account. Log into that account then you should see the migrated data. If you do then use Pondini's Transferring files from one User Account to another.
However if you have totally made of mess out of things then I'd start over, this time using the Setup Assistant Tips beginning where he discusses Second Chance.

  • HELP! LOCKED IN LIMBO W/MIGRATION ASSISTANT DATA TRANSFER:  "LESS THAN 1 MINUTE LEFT" FOR 10 HOURS

This has happened before. I'm migrating from one Macbook Pro to another Mac (though it doesn't seem to matter if it's a MBP or other Apple powerbook) and it gets almost to the end of the bar with the blue water line a sliver away from finishing but it stays at "less than one minute remaining" as it finishes up migrating settings. Going on 10 hours now.
Have read other discussions from 2009 to earlier this month w/this issue. Some say it's a Lion OS issue that's been acknowledged as a flaw. Others had the same issue w/Leopard & say to ignore the remaining minute & leave it alone until it finishes which could take a day or more. I'm moving almost 300 GB of data. I've done this before and had same issue and interrupted it. I manually migrated over applications, documents, etc, one by one and it still took overnight just to do some of the data, so this is  not an inordinate amount of time.
If it's going to complete, I'll let it run. If it's not, I'd like to know so I don't waste more time trying... Thanks in advance for assistance w/this conundrum.

I'm not a big fan of migration assistant, because this happens all the time.  I'd give it a few more hours, then say "I give up."
Why didn't you use the Setup Assistant on the target mac using the firewire disk mode?  I don't have absolute evidence, but you rarely see issues with people who use the Setup Assistant with a newly installed OSX (or brand new Mac).

  • Monitor dimming after less than a minute really starting to annoy me...

    Hey!
This is my first post on here... and I'm posting because I've just started getting really fed up with how the display slightly dims after a minute or less of me not typing or moving the cursor... If I need a page open to read, I have to constantly touch the trackpad in order for the light to come on again so I can see what I'm reading...
I have looked ALL OVER the settings, and the only thing I can find to change is how long it takes for the computer to go into sleep mode... and there's is another thing where you can check it to have the display fade before going to sleep.... but even if I uncheck this, then instead of the display fading, it goes completely black after a minute or less...
I just want to adjust the amount of time it takes for the display to dim... Please! Is anyone else annoyed with this? I can't even watch a youtube video without being interrupted about 4 times by the screen fading...
Thank you to anyone that can help me!

  • IMac starting and shuts down after less than one minute...

    Hi !
I hope someone could help me with this problem...
    I think I've tried everything... CMD+Alt+P+R / CMD+R / ... SMC...
I'm a little lost because I can't access to the computer (it shuts down before arriving on the desktop). I've also tried to access just to the hard drive by connecting 2 Mac with Firewire cable... And the same problem appears. The iMac is also shutting down to soon to backup anything...
Is there someone who has experienced the same problem ?
    Thanks !
    Best regards,
    Jonathan.

    Hi Jonathan..
Just to rule out any hardware issues, might be a good time to run the OS X Lion: Use Apple Hardware Test

  • HT4796 My computers have been saying less than a minute remaining for like 3 hours now, any suggestions?....

Does anyone know anything about this??
    Thanks

I have left the machine for 24 hours, and then restarted the donor Laptop. The new laptop now tells me that migration is complete but when I reboot it is clear that nothing has happenned.
So I have plugged inthe USB drive used for the time machine backup and I am migrating from that. Estimated time - 58 minutes.
What a waste of three days!!

  • Less than a minute remaining...... Forever?

Recently purchased a new computer, and I decided I wanted to keep so old files from my Powerbook G4. I planned on using a portable hardrive, however for some reason or another, my new computer was able to recognize the drive when I plugged it in, and my old one was not. So I used the migration utility instead, and did it over the network, which shockingly has taken 10 hours for 10 GB of information. However now its been telling me that there is less than a minute remaining for over a half hour. So is it going to finish in the near future, or should I press the tiny red button.

"Less than a minute remaining" message when I restored my Macbook Pro drive from an external backup using Time Machine took AT LEAST 30 to 45 minutes. I was doing a complete restore of about 250 GB's. Don't reboot yet! Let it run.... listen for drive activity (lights, etc.). It isn't frozen, just taking forever. Obviously, the message at this point in the restore is not accurate. The blue bar was even all the way to the end and just sat there. The backup finished successfully.

  • Mavericks install freezes "less than a minute" and initialized two MacBooks at forced restart

Tonight I finally decided to install Mavericks in a new MacBook Air 1.7 GHz Intel Core i7, and an older MacBook Pro 15", were Mountain Lion was previously installed.
In both macs the install process freezed at "less than a minute" for long time, too long, so that I wrongly decided to force shut down, and when I restarted both macs were initialized as brand new machine, with all prevoius data lost...
Luckily I have time machine back-up of both and now I am recovering from it.
Maybe I am wrong to force quit from install process, but how can it be that I encountered the same situation in two machines?
I also encountered the same less than a minute issue with Mountain Lion when I moved data from the older MacBook Pro to the new Air, but after shutting off, the Air started to work correctly.
What the **** is this freezing status? I am not sure I will be trying again to install Mavericks since I get a solution for this. And I am very frustrated not to see Mac stuff runnning smoothly as ever.

I did two installs and with each one when it stated less than one minute it took 10.  Need to patient and it will finish.  Something wrong with the timing indicator i guess.

  • My ipod wont turn on. before it was stuck on the apple logo so i restarted it like 5 times in less than a minute and now it just WONT do anything.

before it was stuck on the apple logo so i restarted it like 5 times in less than a minute and now it just WONT do anything.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Migration Assistant 'Less than 1 minute remaining' Solution

    Hi all..
I have been reading the problems people have been having regarding Migration Assistant and the dreaded 'Less Than 1 Minute Remaining' screen than never goes away and I found a solution for it so you don't have to go through all that!
I recently upgraded my 24" Late 2008 iMac to a new 27" iMac and wanted to bring all my files over to the new machine as most of it is photos and Final Cut Pro plus related editing software!
I did the whole connecting both macs up on the same network and even connected the ethernet cable for faster transfer but after hours of showing promise,  it hung up on 1 minute to go.  After leaving it for 4 hours, I gave up but here is the best way to do a hassle free transfer.
Back up all the files on your old machine to a hard drive in Time Machine form.  I had 320 gigs to do so it may take 4 hours or so to do the back up.
when this is done, disconnect the drive from the old machine.  On the new machine, connect the hard drive, open Migration assistant in Utilities and select BACK UP FROM TIME MACHINE!
Mine took about 1 hr 40 mins to complete and it works like a dream.
    Sincerely hope this helps people

Press and hold the power button for a few seconds until the power shuts off, then release, wait a few more seconds, and press it again briefly to restart. Test. If the migration wasn't successful, see below.
    1. Migration may stall with "Sharing Only" user accounts
    2. Back up the old system with Time Machine or Disk Utility and try migrating from the backup.
