I HATE CREATIVE MEDIASOURCE SOFTWARE

hi guys,
i just got my Zen Xtra and i'm not familiar with it yet. anyway, i was just trying out Creative's software and i randomly put quite a lot of mp3s in PC Media folder first and then to my Zen. i found out a lot of my ID3 tags weren't organised which couses a big problem to figure out what's playing on the Zen. i deleted everything from my Zen, edited all ID3 tags, deleted all mp3s in PC media folder and exidently checked out "delete from My Computer" box (i was assuming that PC Media folder copied all mp3s to another temp folder). What a mistake!!
this f#$%^ng software deleted a bunch of mp3s from my hard disc. forever! i couldn't rescue them even with Norton undelete software.
that's the most stupid thing ever happened to me in 2 years acti've usage of computers.
i'm so sad... should i sue Creative?
w!

Websitey, I think you yourself is to be blamed. This is the first time I saw a user reporting in forum that he has deleted his audio files while deleting the tracks from PC Music Library.
Firstly, you need to be aware that it is called PC Music Library, and not PC Media Folder. Being a "library", it merely contains links to the actual audio files. The audio files are not duplicated into some temp folders, as you have thought. Otherwise, you will need twice the hard disk size to store your files.
Secondly, the checkbox to delete the audio files from My Computer is not selected by default. This means that most (if not all) of the time, users are unlikely that they will want to select the checkbox. You have selected the checkbox yourself. If you did not accept the default option, you better be aware of what you are doing. If not sure, stick to default, or experiement with one or two files first.
Thirdly, I really think that it is you own fault that have not understood how a "library" works. All the libraries of media player in the world today work by linking the library database to the actual audio files. It is not only MediaSource that implement library in this way. Even if you delete tracks from Windows Media Player, you will also be given the option to delete the file from your computer.

    Hi Gilad,
    If you switched from a .x firmware to a 2.x firmware, you will need some software updates aswell so your applications can communite with the new firmware.
    You can find them in the Download section aswell. For MediaSource for instance, the file you need is:
    Creative MediaSource Plugin for PlaysForSure devices (version .00.8) (<FONT color=#222222 size=><B>23.98 MB</B>)
    Filename: CMS_PCMTP_LB__00_8.exe

  • Creative MediaSource software has probl

    I created some playlists in media source for zen micro, and then transfered them to my player. It worked fine. Couple days later I openned medisource to play songs in one of the play list. It shows all the songs with the same tag names, that is all the songs in the play list have the same display name, I right click them and check tag info all have the same tag info(tag info of one of the songs in the list). But when I play them they are different songs. Here is the real bummer, when I look at the names in the library, and check tag info of the same file in the library list it is correct. Anybody has any ideas?

    >> Couple days later I openned medisource to play songs in one of the play list.
    Just to check with you. Do you mean that you play the songs in the playlist of your MediaSource's PC Music Library or the playlist of your Zen micro?

  • Creative MediaSource will not play certain MP3

    I have a Creative Audigy 2 NX with a remote that I really want to be able to use. Programs such as GIRDER, WinLIRC, and uICE do not support the RM-500 remote control.
    I can't figure out how to control the remote beyond editing and creating key files that send ASCII commands, but the problem with that is I cannot control programs that are not currently acti've. In other words, I cannot control winamp if I'm playing a game with my remote, which is what I want to do. The KEY files are structured as this:[KeyEvent690 etc]KeyName=whateveryouwantdisplayedNotification=- or 2 or 4KeyEventRemap=this is the important partHandleByApp=i don't know what this doesAnyway, if I set notification to -, I can send ASCII commands-- BUT these will not send to programs not currently on top. If I set notification to 2, as Creative did in their Winamp .x key file, I could control the program even if it is not on top-- BUT I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE KeyEventRemaps NUMBERS SHOULD BE. I cannot find this information, and I have tested as far as I am capable of doing manually (tested numbers through 500 MANUALLY).So what I want to be able to do is use my remote to control winamp, but that is impossible. And Creative MediaSource will not play streaming audio (for God knows why...). So what I decided to do was record to an MP3 player with a third party program and play that MP3 in the Creative MediaSource software (the built-in recorder will NOT work, as I cannot structure that into a playlist nor can I play the recording media nor can I minimize the program and mute the feedback-- I can only record if I'm playing, and this doesn't work). The first problem I encountered was several programs would not output MP3s that were playable as they were being recorded, however I finally did find one. This program, 3aLab iRadio, allows the MP3 to be played back WHILE simultaneously being recorded. The only problem is that this the Creative MediaSource software will NOT play the mp3. Out of the 5 different MP3 players I tested, ONLY the Creative MediaSource software would not playback the MP3 as being written. I cannot figure this out, and I am at a loss as to what to do next. I realize that Creative won't support streaming audio with their player, MediaSource, but what I like to do is listen to streaming internet radio as an item on my mp3 playlist in winamp. I wish to be able to control this with my remote, but as I cannot find ANY WAY out there to control my remote as I wish without further information, this is a dead end. My alternati've is to use the Creative software for which the remote was designed to work, but unfortunately this does not support streaming internet radio nor does it support MP3s that are being written to. This is driving me insane.
    What I want to be able to do is have a playlist that I control with my remote, with the first item on the list being internet radio, the 2nd and such on down being MP3s. In winamp, this is doable, as well as in Windows Media Player, and most MP3 players out there. Since I cannot do this in Creative's software, I need a workaround alternati've. PLEASE.
    So, in conclusion, is there anyone out there who can either tell me how to control my remote directly by identifying what the notification=2 keyeventremap=configuarions are, give me a program like girder however which supports the RM-500 remote, or tell me how to get MP3s that are being written to (aka incomplete) to play in the Creative MediaSource software?
    Thank you very much for your time.

  • Creative mediasource resets my computer when I run

    <SPAN class=postbody>Hi I have Win XP Home with latest updates, 3.0ghz pentium 4 cpu, 000mb ram, 20gig harddri've, Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 sound card. When I run Creative Mediasource Organizer or Player my computer it immediately loads, and then crashes and resets. It worked perfectly a month ago when I last used it to put music on my Zen Touch. The creative mediasource software and drivers were included in my CD-rom that I got with Audigy 2 sound card in Christmas 2003 (I think). I have tried uninstalling all the creative software and drivers and then doing a re-install but the same happens again when I run Mediasource Organizer or Player it resets. I am trying to put music on to my Zen Touch and I can't because of this problem. I am just going to use my brother's laptop to see if I can get it work on there. Thanks if you can help.

    Got it working now.

  • Please assist with Creative MediaSource installat

    I'm installing the Creative MediaSource software for my new NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra 40GB and I've been given the option of installing any or all of the following components:
    - Creative MediaSource Nomad 2/3/Zen Plugin
    - Creative MediaSource Jukebox Plugin
    - Creative MediaSource MuVo Plugin
    - Creative MediaSource II / MG Plugin
    - Creative MediaSource Player Skin Pack
    It seems to me that some of these are unnecessary in my case. Can anyone suggest which of those options are necessary for proper use with my player?
    Thanks for the guidance!

    Those plugins are there only if you have any of the other players listed so that Creative Mediasource will recognize them when they are being plugged into your computer. But you still probably need to install their drivers. As long as you have the drivers to recognize your Xtra in Windows, then Creative Mediasource should have no problem syncing with your Xtra.

  • Problem with Creative MediaSource and Zen Ex

    Earlier today my Creative MediaSource software (the Organizer) stopped detecting my Zen Extra (60GB). I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software several times.
    Everytime I try to open the MediaSource Organizer, I get the following:?[size="3" color="#0033ff">Creative MediaSource Player has encountered a problem and needs to close.[size="3" color="#0033ff">?[size="3" color="#0033ff">Error Signature: [size="3" color="#0033ff">AppName: ctcms.exe AppVer: 2.2.5.0 ModName: ctcms.exe
    [size="3" color="#0033ff">ModVer: 2.2.5.0 Offset: 00098c[size="">
    ?Can anyone help me? How can I get the Organizer working again and how can I get it to detect my player. I have installed the firmware and drivers on this site, but nothing is helping.

    Try deleting the .dat file(s) under "C:\Documents and Settings\YourName\Application Data\Creative\MediaSource". It may solve the MediaSource crashing problem. To detect your Zen Xtra, you need to install its plugin for MediaSource. You may install it from your product CD or get the latest from the Web download. Here is what you should do:?- Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2 from your product download site. Make sure that you install this first before installing the rest of the MediaSource plugins listed below.- (Depending on your product and firmware)
    For non-PlaysForSure Zen series: Download and install the latest Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.20 for Creative MediaSource from your product download site.
    or:
    For PlaysForSure Zen Xtra: Download and install the Creative Software Suite for PlaysForSure-enabled Creative NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra Players.
    - If it is listed for your product: Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Plugin for CD Burner 3.0.8 from your product download site.

  • Technical question about Creative MediaSource 3.30.21‏

    Hello:
    I use Creative MediaSource software to manage my Creative MP3 player. When I hook up the MP3 player using the USB cable, I can play songs in the "player" within the MediaSource organizer. How do I set it so that the songs (which reside on the MP3 player) will play on my computer speakers (not through the MP3 player)?
    Im summary, when I play a song that li'ves on my computer, it plays through the computer speakers, but songs that li've on the MP3 player play on the MP3 (even though I'm controlling them via the MediaSource software). How do I play all of these songs on my computer speakers?
    Thanks in advance for any help!
    [email protected]

    R.U. lazy? Why can't you try it by yourself.
    Well, I tried it. But it pops out a message saying my system doesn't have the proper components (some such thing -- I'll try to get the exact message next time)...
    I have an SB Audigy card properly installed with the latest drivers (and functioning without problems).
    As for nvidiot's suggestion to run the setup.exe program. I believe I also tried that method and it showed up the same error message (sorry, will jot down the message next time).
    However, I'm interested in this "ctcomp" utility you mentioned that can patch the setup files. How is the ctcomp used? (I recall having an experience with a pre-patched Audigy2 drivers quite some time back. It already had a prepatched ctcomp.dat or some similar thing which allowed the Audigy2 sound driver to install on Audigy sound card.)
    So I surmise this method might work (assuming the Creative MediaSource relies on the same identification mechanism).
    ~~~~~~~~
    (edited/added)
    Ok, I've finally gotten this thing to install. I probably wasn't running the correct setup.exe program as mentioned above. I went to the SETUP\SETUP directory and run the SETUP.EXE there. The CMS program started to install and after a few minutes of hard disk activity, the setup program told me to restart the system, after which the Creative MediaSource program is installed. (no need for the ctcomp thing)
    Thanks to all that helped me here.Message Edited by dta on 0-08-2006 03:3 AM
  • Creative MediaSource - AudioSync Lo
    I have a Nomad Jukebox 3 and recently got a new computer and installed Creative MediaSource version 2.03.29 on it. On my old computer this application had an essential feature called 'AudioSync' which would keep the music on my computer in sync with the music on my Jukebox. Now I have installed it on my new computer this feature seems to have dissappeared although it says it should exist for this version of CMS. Can anyone advise me please?
    I seem to remember it having a tab under 'settings'?
    Thanks for replying but it doesn't help me...
    Firstly the disk that comes with JB3 only has Playcenter 3 and Creative FileManager. It doesn't come with MediaSource. And secondly have a look below at what I have installed - it clearly states "provides AudioSync 2"...
    I've been having a lot of problems with?my Audigy 2 ZS' Creative MediaSource applications, whenever I would attempt to open any Creative MediaSource application I would be denied access and?then receive a Microsoft error message. I just attempted to uninstall and then reinstall the Creative MediaSource software after my?PC was?rebooted into?a clean state but yet I am still encountering the same problems as before, I thought that this would be a sure fix for my problem but I guess I was wrong.     Everytime I close the application it crashes and I can't seem to fix it. Kept happening with MS3 so have now swapped to MS5 and have the same problem. Have also tried reinstalling it several times with the same problem coming back each time. I did think it might be a clash with another program but have just reinstalled Windows XP Pro and installed MS5 onto a clean system but still get the crash on exit.
    Anyone any ideas or similar experiences know a solution or should I just switch to WMP WinAmp. I have a Zen Touch 20GB with latest firmware.
    Cheers,
    MARK
    (PS. Also think it is a bit cheeky that after paying a couple of hundred for my Zen I am now expected to pay a tenner to use MP3 software from Creative which to be honest most other companies provide free.)
    I believe you have one of the Audigy 2 series of sound card. Am I right? If so, please update to the latest drivers of your sound card. It should fix the crashing problem when MediaSource is closed.
  • Creative MediaSource Go! software updat
    I've scanned the postings and can't find an answer to this. How do I update Creative MediaSource Go! to a newer version? I was viewing the other updates available for my system, I saw that the CMS Go! version needed to be 3.0 or newer. I have .0.26.0 and SB Audigy 2, which came with my Dell in 2004. After I updated the driver about 2 weeks ago, everything seems to be working fine, but if there is a way to update CMS Go!, I can't find it.
    With all the problems people seem to be having with SB lately, I'm reluctant to fix something that currently isn't broken, but I'm thinking about the future. If I don't update what might need updating, will I be abandoned at a later date?
    Thanks.
    Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource 5.0.38 which will also install the latest Go! software. Creative MediaSource 5 and its various plugins are now officially available for download at your respecti've product download sites. The main Creative MediaSource 5 Player/Organizer:
  • Zen Xtra won't appear in Creative MediaSource Organi
    I've been using my 30 GB Jukebox for a couple years w/ no real problems except that I remember there being a problem w/ a USB port & I had to change something so that the Creative MediaSource Organizer software could recognize the mp3 player. Now I've bought a 60 GB Zen Xtra (same player, x2) & am having the same problem. I've upgraded everything & hate the new interface for transfering files... most of the time the program just freezes. I'd like to be able to use the same Creative software I was using before, but it doesn't recognize the new device. If anyone knows what I'm talking about or how I can fix it, I'd rather not have to call?Customer Service?again for $3.
    I'm just giving this topic a bump. I've upgraded to Creative MediaSource Organizer v 3.30.2, but it won't recognize either of my mp3 players when I plug them in. I'm able to use the Zen Xtra Media Explorer, but?most of the time it just freezes up. I'd like to be able to use the software I'm familiar w/, so if anyone could help me out I'd appreciate it. I seem to remember having a similar problem when I first purchased my 30 GB Zen Xtra.
  • Creative Mediasource ch
    Hi,
    I can't find my way in this program... I know it must be me but I badly need some help (or better... my daughter needs help)
    Even with media player I have problems...
    When I sync on the Zen Micro i go to the artist and pick one
    I can not see any song. When I choose "all entries" I get them all.
    In the left pane of explorer (which I currently use) I go to the artist. A "+" sign in front of the name. I click on it and get a subfolder "unknow" (dutch translation). Then, in this subfolder I see the songs....
    How to get rid of this "unknown"? and what is it in fact? is this the cause of what happens of the zen itself?
    For now, in creative mediasource, I get no "zen" in the source-pane, even when he IS connected.
    Help is badly needed... I seriously considder returning the zen and buy an Ipod.
    (too bad... I hate monopolies)
    Thanks
    JP
    What firmware are you using? You must install a plugin for MediaSource to recognise the player assuming you download the software.
    I suggest downloading and installing the following if you have the v.xx firmware:
    . Creative Zen and Jukebox Driver Upgrade version .30.03
    2. Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2
    3. Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.20 for Creative MediaSource
    4. Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update
    Install , then connect the player to the PC. Then install 2, 3 and 4 (the player must be connected for 2 to verify you have a Creative product).
    Also have a read of my Nomad Primer, which explains about tag based players. The "unknown" entries suggests you have tracks which don't have tags.
    The iPod works in exactly the same way, in that it needs tracks with tags.
  • Creative MediaSource Go! on star
    Hello,
    I have installed my sound device yesterday. With the device it installed also Creative MediaSource Go! It is usefull software but I hate that it starts on startup. I was looking in Help how to turn it off but I didnt find it.
    Please someone tell me how do I turn off the starting MediaSource Go! on Windows startup.
    Thanks.
    Get something like spybot search and destroy, or anything that can modify the startup entries. You can also use MS Config, which ca be found at start>run>msconfig . Then go to the startup tab, and uncheck away. MS Config will promt you whether to restart or not. It is not necessary to, but you can see the results that way.
    Both the spybot and MSconfig methods work, you will find that Spybot is much more useful. You will probibly see many other things that startup on your computer that you can disable too.
  • Trouble with Creative Mediasource
    I'm using the latest driver (2.0.00) And Firmware (2.0.03), and CMS5 5.0.38, with the plugins for Zen and the PlaysForSure. My system us Windows XP, SP2, and I meet the minimum system reqs for the program.
    Since "upgrading" to Creative MEdiasource 5, I've run into several problems, perhaps all interconnected.
    --Mediasource takes an incredibly long time to load my Zen (40 GB Zen Xtra), upwards of 3 minutes. This took only a few seconds in previous versions. This is present when connected through my front, back and USB hub ports.
    --Mediasource will rip a CD incredibly slowly. If I try to transfer more than one CD (That is, one, the procedure ends, and then start up another), I will get an error message and MEdiacsource will shut down.
    --Sometimes, the window itself will disappear, and I will be unable to access it. This has happened a couple of times instead of the previous problem. The process will still run, but I will be unable to reload it, and trying to forcibly end the process (Task Manager) seems not to work. This also happens sometimes when I browse away from my Zen (Say, to a CD or file on my computer), and come back to my Zen.
    I tried using my prior version, but it doesn't recognise my Playsforsure device at present, and I'm not sure if it's even possible to alter it.
    Is anyone else having a similar problem? I loved Mediasource prior to this version: It was a sleek, easy and intuiti've interface and covered almost all of my Organisation needs. I did check the boards, but I may have missed a similar problem. I'm wondering if this is an issue that people have a solution to.
    Any help's appreciated.
    Hello:
    I have formatted the player using the recovery menu as well as with WMP, because both are the recommended and "only" ways to format, depending on who you listen to. No difference, however in the way WMP behaves. When I get to the point where WMP can only sync a small few files, if I do a Cleanup (from rescue mode), let the Nomad rebuild the library, I can usually get more files in before it clogs up again. Every time I do a fresh format, I lose a couple of days worth of work, so I'm not doing it again.
    I don't have any way to control how much of the library to synchronize once it has gotten past my playlists, unless I spend time creating more playlists for this purpose. With a 60 G Nomad, and a library suitable for that storage, that's a TON of music to deal with.
    I'm still trying to figure out whether this is a Windows Media Player issue, a driver issue, or a Nomad firmware issue. Since I have to reset the Nomad between each sync attempt, and occasionally do a cleanup, I'm guessing it's the Nomad, and since I've seen it on more than one unit, I'm guessing it's a firmware bug.
    I'm hoping someone else has seen this issue and has a better idea. I hate all my choices: Notmad is frustrating because I can't get my playlists to come across. Creative Media Source is less reliable than WMP, so that leaves WMP as the least aggravating way to sync, and it works flawlessly with my smaller sized Sansa Clip from the same library.
