I have just switched from Comcast to Centurylink. My reasons for switching were primarily two: 1) I saved 50$ a month 2) I despise Comcast's business model
Also, with my Airport Extreme, I can establish a Guest Network that my literally poor next door neighbors can use without us running into each other. I was originally not using my Airport Extreme because it had interface problems with my actiontek Q1000 modem from Centurylink. When used in a hardwire sense, theQ1000 works wonderfully, consistently 38-40 Mbps on my iMac, but wirelessly, it was pitiful, 3 Mbps on my iPhone, and 8-10 on my iPad. The Genius' at my Apple Store said that it worked poorly as a wireless modem, and because it was G in format, it didn't interface well with my iPhone. In turn, they said the slowness on my iPhone slowed down my iPad. If you are a tech nut like me, you know how irksome it can be to see that constantly flashing yellow light and not know enough to remedy it, and turn it back to green. I'm one of those guys that can't sleep at night until those update numbers disappear from my iPhone and iPad desktop. If you can give me any ideas to fix the problem, you may help prevent me from bludgeoning myself to death with my old Microsoft keyboard. Yikes!!!

To configure the AirPort Extreme in Bridge Mode using the 10.7.4 operating system.....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utiltiies > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Extreme icon, then click Edit
Click the Network tab at the top of the next window
Make sure that the setting for Router Mode = Off (Bridge Mode)
Click Update at the the lower right and allow 25-30 seconds for the AirPort Extreme to display a green light
Then, power down the entire network....order of devices is not important
Wait a minute
Start the modem/router first and let it run a minute by itself
Start the AirPort Extreme the same way
Continue to start devices one at a time until the entire network is powered back up

Let me give the history - I started with an Apple Express being fed thru a D-Link EBTR 2310 cable Router from an RCA DCM315 Modem (Pure). Comcast service all the way.
Got the 1st generation TC in 2008 and merely replaced the Airport Express with the TC. Worked ok
A year or two ago I did try removing the modem and feeding the TC directly from the modem. Resulted in the same condition I have now - Continuous flashing amber on the TC. So I put the router back in the chain.
Some time later, at the recommendation of a Comcast rep, I replaced the router with (a Belkin F5D 5231) to see if speed and dropout problems would be improved. I thought it helped some at the time but now I am not so sure.
Last week I decided to see if a new modem would help with download speeds. So I got another pure cable modem (Motorola SB 6121- high on the Comcast recommended list).
Got up and running easily with Comcast help and with the modem connected directly to a computer.
Next I put the TC in the link and again could not get past the TC continuing to flash amber. Although I did get connected to the internet with this configuration I lost connection two both of my printers - one connected by USB and the other wirelessly to the TC. Again everything works fine when I put the Belkin router back in the system.
However with the router in there, the modem shows the downstream connection to be 10/100 ethernet speed. (Modem light changes color for indicating speeds.}
I have gone thru all of the combinations of powering down/ up, but all stays the same.
I can live with what I have but something still doesn’t seem right.

I just purchased an airport extreme router to increase the range of my wifi. I have an imac with 10.5.8. I get a flashing yellow light on the base unit and it tells me I need airport utility to install yhe ubnit. Where do I get this and how do I do it?

Yes, that is correct.
Did you have the instructions that came with your Airport Extreme? Are you sure you have it setup properly? Here is the setup guide:

Ensure you have everything setup properly. Once you do this and if you are still having trouble, follow Star's instructions.

Flashing yellow light?

I've been reading other posts regarding the problems encountered by some after upgrading the Apple TV to 2.2. I believe my problem is related, but not sure. Others have found relieve by holding the "menu" and "-" keys on the remote to regain control, but mine just shows the apple icon on the screen and the yellow light continues to flash indefinitely (I guess). It's been flashing for several hours and nothing else appears to be happening. I've tried powering it off several times and as soon as I plug it back in, the light begins to flash yellow continously again. The Apple icon doesn't appear until I do the "menu" + "-" sequence again....but that's it.
Also...and unrelated to this problem...does anyone else's Apple TV stay very hot as long as it's plugged in?

The flashing yellow light combined with the failure to boot even after the power has been recycled would indicate a catastrophic failure. If it's totally unresponsive, there is nothing you will be able to do on your own to fix it. You should either call AppleCare or take it to an Apple store.
As for the heat, yes, it does get very hot. The top is reportedly designed to act as a heat sink, eliminating the need for a large, potentially noisy cooling fan.

Open AirPort Utility, the application that you used to configure the AirPort Express and click Manual Setup.
Click directly on the word "Status" (2nd line) and a window will open to tell you why the Express is complaining. What is the message?
It might be a notification that an update is available for your Express.

Flashing amber: Your Time Capsule can’t establish a connection to the network orthe Internet, or is encountering a problem. Make sure you haveinstalled AirPort Utility and use it to get information about whatmight cause the status light to flash amber. See “If Your TimeCapsule Status Light Flashes Amber” on page 29.
For more information about why the light is flashing, open AirPort Utility, select yourTime Capsule, and then choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu. Click BaseStation Status to display information about the flashing light.

External Hd added -Flashing Yellow light

WHen I try to hook up my Seagate Flex dish via USB 2.0 Mac OS Extended (Journaled) the yellow Time capsule light flashes then on the computer it says there is a problem with the Time capsule Hard drive and I need to hook it up to the computer. When I disconnect the USB all works fine. How can I connect this drive via USB?

What is the exact message that you see? If you launch AirPort Utility and put your Time Capsule into "manual setup mode", then click on the yellow circle in the "Summary" panel, what error(s) do you see?
Are that disk came with a separate power supply, are you using it or trying to power the disk over the USB cable?

DLP 72HM195 - yellow light blinking 3 times?

I have a Toshiba DLP 72HM195 TV.
I can get no picture to come on the screen at all, when I plug it in the blue light stays lit, and the yellow light flashes 3 times with about 2 seconds break between flashes.
I'm really at a loss to understand this. There is nothing in the user manual for this light code.
I have been reading online, and found that 3 flashing yellow lights means the seine boot has failed and I need a firmware upgrade.
First, does anyone know about the 3 flashing yellow lights, does this mean I need firmware flashed?
Second, does anyone know how to flash firmware? I really have no clue where to find software, and wouldn't know what to do with it if I had found it.
I really appreciate the help, I would really rather not throw out my 72" TV, and I hate to pay a repair man if its something simple I could do myself. Thank you in advance!!!

Yes, you can ignore the warning to update. You can also disable the warning by using the AirPort Utility. (ref: AirPort Utility > Select the AirPort > Manual Setup > Summary > Select the amber dot adjacent to the Status line. This will bring up the reason(s) for the warning. You can then ignore (disable) any particular warning.)
You can also disable automatic updates to the AirPort Utility itself. (ref: AirPort Utility > Select the AirPort > Manual Setup > From the AirPort Utility's menu bar select AirPort Utility > Preferences > Disable (uncheck) each or all options on this panel.)

Success blinking yellow light is now green

I called tech support and finally I am up and running with my new airport extreme. Originally I followed the instructions over and over with no success. I had a usb hard drive and another computer plugged into the router. So I unplugged everything, and called tech support. We connected the power to the router, and cable modem only. Then re booted the cable modem and presto I have a steady green light. So if your at the edge of sanity looking at that rotten flashing yellow light try just having the power and cable plugged into the airport extreme thjen reboot the modem. It worked for me.

Everyday I am more and more impressed with the APEBS. I run it with "n" only, and through an eathernet connection I hooked up a "g" router for my computers with onlky a 'g" card, and both work great.

My apple tv 1st gen will not boot up the light just keeps flashing yellow

I turned the power on to my 1st gen apple tv about a week ago and the indicator light just kept flashing yellow it would not boot up I tried unplugging it letting it cool and plugging it back in, I left it plugged in for the day and it still wouldn't boot, I listened for hard drive clicking there was none, I looked at the Ifixit teardown and saw what looked like a CMOS battery, I've had a pc before with the same symptoms and replaced the battery and everything worked fine after. If anyone can provide a second opinion it would be much appreciated.

The most likely problem is a hardware failure.

HP Laserjet 1200 replaced toner & yellow light flashes

Hi! I have a HP Laserjet 1200 which printed with smudges and ghost text a few lines down. In an attempt to correct this, I installed a new toner cartridge. I had difficulty opening the toner door completely; it stuck about half-way opened. I opened the left and right panels to see if I could loosen the old cartridge, and something snapped (probably a plastic clip) when I forced the right panel open. Opening the panels didn't help, and I closed them. Eventually, after applying some pressure, I opened the toner door all of the way and replaced the toner. Now the printer doesn't work. The yellow light just flashes. Replacing the old toner cartridge doesn't help. I still have the same blinking yellow light problem. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

I unplugged the electrical plug before (no off switch) but I guess for not long enough. Did it again and left it unplugged for awhile when I went to the store. Just plugged in and the memory has let go like you said. All's well now. Thanks.
