I have 10.5.8 what can I upgrade my system to on my MacBook Pro? Thanks for your help.

Snow Leopard needs Intel processor, 1 GB RAM.
Lion needs Core2Duo or better Intel processor, 2 GB RAM.
This is my "About This Mac" saying I have i7 series Intel and 8 GB RAM, so I could run Mountain Lion:
ML has higher requirements:

iOS 5: Updating your device to iOS 5 or Later
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update.

Can I upgrade my mid 2010 macbook pro to use airplay?

    Unfortunately, no you can't.
Just to be clear.  Your computer will support AirPlay it's just AirPlay Mirroring that requires newer hardware.

What can I do get my MacBook Pro to boot up?

That's kinda a vague statement. You'll have to respond with a) the make and model of your MB Pro and b) exactly what you are doing, what is happening, and any error messages before anyone can even try to provide help.

  • What can one do with Bluetooth between MacBook Pro and iPhone?

    Hello,
I tried enabling Bluetooth on my MacBook Pro and iPhone, thinking I could file transfer some photographs. It seems not to work; after trying to "browse the device" it effectively 'times out' (as if it's a neverending 'loading' wait icon). I saw some other threads here, "I can't sync/connect my iPhone and iMac!" with various replies, like "you sync [Calendar agenda] via MobileMe, not via Bluetooth."
What does one do with Bluetooth? Can't I send files wirelessly from my phone to my laptop? If not, why not? If so, why is the connection wait interminable? I have enabled File Sharing and Bluetooth Sharing on my laptop, but see no direct means to do so in my phone's settings -- must this be done through iTunes? Do I need to configure something further before I can send files?
I have iPhone 3G Version 4.2.10 (last I checked -- still waiting to install an update) and Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.6.8).
    Thanks for your time!

"I tried enabling Bluetooth on my MacBook Pro and iPhone, thinking I could file transfer some photographs."
This is not a feature of iphone.  Never has been.
Other than tethering for internet, where provided by the carrier, you cannot connect to a computer/device/phone and do anything.
Bluetooth is for handsfree telephone devices/headsets, stereo speakers/headsets, some keyboards, some peer to peer apps from the app store and tethering where provided by the carrier.

No one seems to be hearing what Big Q is saying.
He can pair his iPhone to his Macbook, but cannot CONNECT. He's NOT asking for alternative solutions, like Wi Fi.
I am able to both pair and connect my one one Macbook to my other one, but I can only pair but not connect my iPhone or iPad to either Macbook. So I have the same problem. But I can pair and connect my Macbooks to other Bluetooth devices, like my ancient Nokia cellfone, or my Bluetooth HP printer.
It's irrelavent that I can instead use a direct USB cable or Wi Fi between my Macbooks and my iPhone/iPad - why can't I use Bluetooth? If Apple does not allow Bluetooth between it's Macbooks and other Mac devices, then why have Bluetooth at all? Does my iPhone have Bluetooth only so that I can pair and connect to my my non Apple mobile handsfree car kit, or communicate easily with the dreaded Apple enemy Samsung, or what?
Make no mistake , I am a diehard Apple fan, but this Bluetooth non compatibility issue appears shortsighted and seemingly pointless. Why does Apple not just say why they created the non compatibility, or have a message on the Bluetooth setup programme which simply and clearly says "don't bother wasting hours of your time trying to pair and connect your iPhone to your Macbook, because we don't allow that anymore, reason being that............"?
As a first time user of this Forum I am surprised at the intolerant and highhanded tone of some of the replies  to what is a legitimate question, that is obviously plagueing many, many other Apple users.

  • Can I upgrade to the new MacBook Pro from PowerBook copying the hard disk?

I have a Power Book G4 17", now I'm going to buy a new MacBook pro 17" and want to transfer the same software (I mean the whole content of my actual HD) to the new MacBook Pro using SuperDuper!
I want to know if the Intel based MacBook Pro can run the same operating system configured in the PowerBook or I must install first the Mac OSX on the new MacBook pro and then reinstalla manually all the applications/documents?

    PowerBook G4 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    PowerBook G4 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi Marcello,
first of all: WELCOME TO THE DISCUSSIONS!
No to both of your questions:
No, you cannot clone the PPC hard disk to a new Intel disk. The systems are completely different.
No, you don't have to reinstall all your software manually.
You have to install Tiger from the install DVD that shipped with that MacBook Pro. You CANNOT use any other install disk, so take care you don't damage it! Once this is done you can transfer all your data, applications and settings from the old computer using the migration assistant in /Applications/Utilities.
Be aware that there might be problems with applications that are not universal binaries and require Rosetta emulation: Intel-based Mac: Some migrated applications may need to be updated.
If this answered your question please consider granting some stars: Why reward points?

  • Can I upgrade to iOS5 on Macbook Pro 1.1?

I have a Macbook Pro 1.1 with OSX 10.5.8 Its processor is 2.16 GB Intel core duo with 1GB 667 Mhz memory. Is it capable of being upgraded to iOS5 so I can join it to the icloud with my other devices?

A Core Duo Mac can't run Mac OS X 10.7, and no Mac can run any iOS version.

  • Can't upgrade RAM on new Macbook Pros?

I'm preparing to buy a new Macbook Pro, and have been told that the RAM that comes with the book is the RAM you get. No upgrade possible because the RAM modules are soldered into place. Is that so? I've always upgraded our computers to the max. Thanks in advance.

    That is indeed so.
There still appears to be one model (13" Mid 2012) that is still available that has upgradable RAM.

  • Can I upgrade my OS on MacBook Pro 10.5.8?

Just tried installing Snow Leopard and it said I couldn't.  I think have have enough disk space, memory, processing...
2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB Memory
    71 Gig free disk space

Stay on 10.6 on that 10.5 era machine, most all your software and hardware drivers will work with only a minor update using Rosetta.
You go to 10.7 and no Rosetta, have to buy new third party hardware and/or software as a lot won't work with 10.7
Also 10.7 has been doing mean things to older Mac's, even 2010 models of MacBook Pro's.
I've got a dead 2009 model here because of Lion.

  • Can i upgrade iMac from my MacBook Pro disc?

hi, does anyone know if i can use my new macbook pro tiger disc to upgrade system on my 2 year old iMac? just not sure if there is something specific on the disc to the macbook & intel processor that would mess up the iMac. Or maybe it's not designed to put system on anything other than that piece of hardware? (sorry, not very versed in mac stuff like this!) thanks...

Actually isn't Apple's EULA that the program can be installed as many times as you want, but only one copy can be running at once?
So if you want to be legal (although architecture problems will keep you from even getting to this point) Just shut down the iMac before you boot the MacBook :-P

  • HT3964 What can I do to fix my macbook pro when it's stuck on the startup screen, grey apple with spinning timer?

    Please help!

The SMC Reset is for power related issues which you don't have.
The Gray Screen issue occurs if there is a incompatible or outdated third party at boot kernel extension file or if there is a corruption in one of the files of OS X itself.
You can bypass the kext files at boot by holding the Shift Key down while booting the machine, this will hopefully allow you to get in and backup users files off the machine first.
The best method to quickly fix Gray Screen issues is simply to #8 Reinstall Just OS X method, that way it kicks out any and all at boot kext files and gives a new copy of OS X itself, without touching most other programs or your files.
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
You will need to Software Update fully until clear afterwards to bring your security and Apple programs up to date, then evaluate which third party programs are no longer working (no at boot kext files) and seeing if there is a update for them that is compatible with your latest OS X verison before reinstalling them.

  • What are the upgrade options for 2008 MacBook Pro A1260

I am curious to see what my options are to upgrade my hard drive compared to upgrading completely to an entirely new computer.
    Any suggestions?

Reliable ram: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade.  Very well known vendor, very reasonable prices, and ram comes with a lifetime guarantee.  As far as reliable hard drives, I can give you brands that I have had no problems with.  Hitachi (still running strong 5 years + in a pc laptop), Samsung, and Western Digital.  Here are some reviews on hard drives: http://www.storagereview.com/best_drives

  • Can i upgrade to 16gb on macbook pro 13 late 2011?

hello, i have a macbook 13 inch late 2011, 2.8 ghz and i want to upgrade from 4gb to 16gb… is it possible? i want to add 8g + 4g cards

I too have a MBP 13" late 2011. I was going to upgrade the RAM to 8 GB. I just realized I ordered 1xcard of 8GB instead of 2xcards of 4 each. I was going to return it and order 2x4GB but the seller: Quantum Technology is telling me I can still use the 8GB I ordered with the existing 2GB card that came with the MBP. They are telling me its not optimized but the MBP will recognize all 10 GB and the extra 2GB will make up for it. Is that so?
Would it be better to use 10GB (made up of 2 and 8 BG) or replace it for a total of 8GB made up of 4+4?
Lastely: Does anybody know if Quantum Technology is reputable?
I'm new to the Mac and really appreciate your input! Thanks!
