I have 1604 error when trying to restore phone.

Ok, I tried upgrading phone to 5.0.1 earlier tonight which did not go as planned.  The phone just does not start now and no use to me.  I have tried performing restore, but with no luck.  I keep on getting the error 1604 in iTunes.
I put the phone in recovery mode and connect to laptop.
iTunes detects phone in recovery mode and says I should restore.
I start restore and then it starts extracting software.
It then says preparing iPhone for restore.
At this point I get two USB power off / on beeps.
The handset changes from recovery screen to a blank screen,
It then seems to timeout and then I get the 1604 error.
I have tried restarting laptop, changing USB cables, disconnecting all other devices with no luck.  Even moving the download image to another directory.
It appears there is something on the phone that's just not happy from the reset.
However when I go into device manager the phone is present on the USB list.  There is nothing in the event log for any errors.
I am running iTunes 10.5.1.42 on XP SP3

All, I gave my iPhone to a friend and he tried it on his laptop and it worked first time.  So its got to be something to do with profile or my laptop.

  • Error When Trying to Restore from iTunes Backup

I had to erase and re-install the operating system. I thought I had iTunes covered by burning an iTunes backup to a CD, but when trying to restore iTunes from the CD it will restore a few songs and then give an error message that it was unable to read or write to my hard drive. I looks as though it restored the music that I owned and put on the computer but not the tunes I had purchased from the iTunes store and not the playlists. I did not know enough to burn the /music file. Is there anything I can do to get the burned CD to restore?

Contacts are not part of the backup. They are seperate and either you need to sync them with an email program such as outlook or use icloud mail, contacts, and calendars on the phone. Unless you did that then the contacts are gone.

  • Error when trying to restore mail-folder

    Hi.
I've done a complete re-installation af Snow Leopard.
When trying to restore the mail folder via Time Machine i'm told: "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for "mail'" I seems to me that i have both privileges to read and write in the folder.
I have no problems restoring my pictures and the likes?
    Can you please help me?

  • I have an error when trying to watch a rented movie 5104

i have an unknown error when trying to watch a rented movie from the itunes store

It's common in the sense that you'll see this issue arise in the community from time to time, but in the context that the community is the place that users bring their problems it's probably similar to a broken shoulder which may be common at the hospital but not so common amongst the population that the hospital serves.
In many cases the problem can be solved by restarting the Apple TV (pull the power for best results) and/or restarting your router. Persistent problems may indicate a network issue such as interference locally or a slow download speed from your service provider. Try the restarts and see if that helps.

  • Getting "not enough space on iphone" error when trying to restore iPhone from latest backup in iTunes.

Recently updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 6.1.3 and lost all of my contacts after doing so.  Tried to restore phone to latest backup performed in iTunes but I get an error message that tells me there's not enough space on my iPhone to perform the restoration.  The ultimate problem I'm trying to solve is the loss of my contacts so if there's another way to solve that please let me know. If restoring my phone is a proper solution please help me do so.
    1.  How do I get my contacts back?

  • 1602 and 1604 Errors When Attempting to Restore/Update iPhone - Please Help

Hi, I've been having trouble with my iPhone 3GS and after wasting many days on trying to solve the problem, I am reaching out for help from those more knowledgeable than me. I have been having this problem for as long as I can remember (I've owned my iPhone for just under a year): whenever I attempt to Restore my iPhone or update its OS, I receive a 1602 or 1604 error on iTunes and the process stops with the iPhone wiped. iTunes refuses to continue the Restore and any further attempts result in the same error. I originally found this work around for the problem after an exhaustive search (4th post down):
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1363589
However, every time I wish to Restore or update, I have to follow these long, annoying, unusual steps, and, now that I am coming to the end of my year's warranty, I really want to fix this problem, or get it fixed by Apple if this is not possible.
The iPhone restores with no problem on another computer in my house, so I guess the problem is with my computer. I have taken the following steps (often many times over and in combination with each other) in my attempts to fix the problem, but with no success:
    1. Uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes
    2. Uninstalled and reinstalled iPhone drivers
    3. Uninstalled and reinstalled all Apple software and drivers
    4. Removed iTunes library, all music and any other iTunes files in music folder
    5. Created a new user account, which is free from any old iTunes settings, opened iTunes and plugged in iPhone
    6. Used different USB ports
    7. Plugged in iPhone after being restored on other computer
I'm running out of ideas. Can anyone please help?
    Thanks,
    James

I had all of these problems, and I was able to fix them with the following process. Here is what I did:
    My setup:
Apple Max OS 10.4.10, Mac G4, with 3rd party USB 2.0 card.
    1. Upgrade to iTunes 7.6 and Quicktime 7.4, Restart and repair permissions
    2. Purchase the iPod Touch Upgrade - It took two tries to purchase. I had to accept to two agreements, and then got an error. I purchased the upgrade again and got an instruction screen. iTunes appeared to download a very small file.
    3. Sync my touch (I still had not upgraded to firmware 1.1.3)
    4. The touch synced, but I had no new functions.
    5. I clicked upgrade, and downloaded the 165GB file.
    6. While the file was downloading I undocked my iPod touch and restarted it.
    7. When the download was complete, it gave me an unknown error because my iPod was not connected.
    8. I connected My iPod and tried to install the update. After several tries, I always got a 1602 error.
    9. I restarted my computer and did a hard restart of my ipod touch. This did not work, I still had 1602 errors.
    10. At this point, I chose to RESTORE my iPod Touch.
    11. After the restore, I chose not to restore any content, and just tested the firmware update. EVERYTHING worked great!
    12. I synced my iPod touch while I watched the keynote. 45 minutes later my sync was complete and 14 Gig of content was restored. The new functions are great. I have already read my .Mac email.

  • My iPod is stuck on apple logo and I get a 1434 Error when trying to restore it.

Hello, I hope somebody can help me. I have a 120 gb ipod classic (6th generation). I purchased it a long time ago. It was working fine for a few years and then suddenly it's been stuck on the apple logo ever since.
I tried to restore it by putting in on disk mode and connecting it to my Mac. My iTunes recognizes the device (But my Mac doesn't!). On iTunes, I tried to restore it, but I get an error message 1434, stating that the restoration could not be completed.
I read that I should try to erase the drive with Disk Utility, but when I get there, the button to erase the drive is unclickable. I tried to partition as well, but it also did not work (maybe I am doing it wrong? Could somebody direct me with better instructions?)
I'm wondering if the hard drive is dying, or if I have a bad ribbon, or if the logic board itself is broken. Not sure what method of action I should take. I can't even get into the diagnostic screen.
    PLEASE HELP!

    Hello E1777,
You can try this link to download iTunes from the Apple website. It should resolve the issue for you.

  • Unknown Error when trying to restore backup on iPad

I'm trying to restore a backup onto my iPad 2, and every time I try to restore it, it does what it should where it starts to load and has the estimated time, etc. But when it finishes it says that there was an unknown error. When I tried to restore it, it did the same thing but instead gave me the error 1604, which I still can't get fixed either, but I tried restoring it on a different computer and it worked fine. So I thought there was something wrong with the computer that I originally tried it with that was causing the problem, so I transferred the backup onto the other computer and tried it and it game me the exact same error. I've spent days trying to fix this, and nothing has worked. I already looked at and tried doing what the support sites say with troubleshooting, restoring, recovery/DFU mode, etc. but nothing has worked. My iPad is on iOS 6.1 and I just upgraded iTunes to the latest version before I started all of this, and it is jailbroken with Evasi0n, although I've tried it with and without the jailbreak installed and it still has the same outcome. Is it a memory problem? Has anyone had the same problem and fixed it, or has any suggestions? And if not, is there a way that I can easily extract all of the files from the backup and put them on my iPad without using iTunes? Thanks.

    Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

  • Error when trying to restore dv7-4294nr

i decided to wipe the hard drive clean after i lent a friend my pc, and his son put a ton of junk on it.  i had made the restore disks when i first go the pc but it gave me an error when i tried to restore.  Thinking the disks were bad, and HP not letting me make another set of disks, i decided to order the restore disks from HP (i also thought it would be better if i ever came to sell the pc on to have the disks)
The disks arrived, i started the restore, about a hour into it, it had rebooted several times, it came up to an error saying there was a problem with the recovery.  It gives the option to save log, details or retry
Retry asks for the disks, and starts the process all over again (and eventually errors out).   When clicking on details it says "merging filenorm.wim failed"
Any ideas on how to fix this ?

    Hi:
I don't have an answer for you regarding the specific issue you are facing, but I do have a workaround.
Your notebook came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, and if you can read the 25 character Windows 7 product key on the Microsoft COA sticker on the bottom of your notebook, you can download the plain Windows 7 ISO file to burn to a DVD, for the 64 bit version of Windows 7 Home Preimium that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on the bottom of your notebook.
You must also select the language of the installation that came with your PC, or the product key won't work.
Burn the ISO file using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program, and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow.
Use the 25 character product key on the bottom of the notebook to activate the installation.
The key is good for either the 32 or 64 bit version of W7.
Then go to your PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&lc=en&product=5060969&
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.
    http://www.mydigitallife.info/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-from-digital-river/
At least you will be able to get your PC back up and running, and it will have a nice bloatware-free installation of W7.

We are trying to restore a HP Proliant ML350 G6 Windows 8 R2 Server but every time we do we get a message that states "The system image restore failed error details: Windows Backup failed to extend or mount the file system on the recovered volume.
(0x80780124)" We were trying the restore from the CD. Any ideas what would be causing the issues?

    Hi,
Please try to run chkdsk on the backup vhd to see if you can restore the server. In additional, you can also refer to the thread below to troubleshoot the issue:

  • HELP ME UPDATER FREEZES OR GIVES ERROR WHEN TRYING TO RESTORE CORRUPT IPOD!

I have a 5th gen 60g ipod. I haven't used it in awhile and decided to get some vids on it. I hook the ipod up and it does not appear in itunes or anywhere. I use a 2005 updater and it tells me it's not mounted. I decide to restore it. I click restore and the updater freezes during the time bar. Because of being disconnected in the middle of the restore, my ipod is corrupted and just have the folder with the question mark. I decide to try to restore again, 5 more times. Freezes 5 more times. I download the new 2006 updater and while using that restore, it gives me the error "Error: An error occured updating or restoring iPod." Then I try it in Disk Mode for both updaters and the same thing happens. And when I try to update the ipod, the updater just force quits and doesn't even give me an error (with the 2006). The 2005 doesn't even allow me to update it as the option is transparent. Now I have no clue with what to do. Please, I layed out everything and I just want a simple quick answer. Thanks.

Try using Disk Utility to format the iPod just as you would a hard drive. Once that is complete, try the latest iPod updater again.
