I have 2 macs; do I have to buy 2 Lion upgrade?

Hello everyone... I have an iMac ad a MacBook pro, both of them with snow Leopard. So, do I have to buy 2 Lion's upgrade or can I use only one? And how? Thanks!

Just one. Just re download..
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Make sure your Macs are running v10.6.8 before upgrading to Lion.
Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM.

You can download ML on all Macs that are linked to the same iTunes account.

  • Why do we have to buy mountain lion when we bought lion? Others who didn't purchase lion don't have to pay for it to move to mountain lion

why do we have to buy mountain lion when we bought lion? Others who didn't purchase lion don't have to pay for it to move to mountain lion.

As far as I know the only people not having to pay for Mountain Lion are the ones that have purchased a apple computer after the 4th of june or something. These people get a free upgrade. All others will have to pay for a copy of Mountian Lion.
Do you maybe have a source, which states that others don't have to pay for it, where people that have bought Lion do have to pay?
    With kind regards,

  • If I'm running Lion, will I have to buy Mountain Lion to get the new features?

If I'm running Lion, will I have to buy Mountain Lion to get the new features? Or will the features also be sold as appts?

Apple charges less for OSX upgrades than most apps cost.  I wouldn't bet on having them separated out, but you can use Messages now, since it's a beta.  But I believe that even that gets shut off by Apple once 10.8 comes out.
I think you should just focus on getting Mountain Lion.  Also, remember, the Terms of Use for this forum precludes us from speculating on what Apple will or won't do with new products/software/etc.

  • I have a MacBook Pro and iMac. Do I have to buy multiple Lion OS?

I have a MacBook Pro and an iMac both running Mountain Lion. Do I have to buy 2 Lion OS? or can I buy one and use it to upgrade both computers? I really don't want to buy a license for 20 computers.

Lion can be downloaded and installed on all the computers you own without repurchasing. However, if this is a corporate or institutional environment, then you need to contact Apple to obtain an appropriate license for multiple computers.

  • I have an iMac and a Mac Pro, the latter is used when I travel. Do I have to buy TWO Lion OS? THEY BOTH HAVE SNOW LEOPARD 15.6. Thanks

I have both an iMac and a Mac Pro using Snow Leopart 15.6 as an OS. Do Ihave to buy TWO Lion OS to upgrade my OS'?

No. Open the App Store on one computer running Snow Leopard. Purchase and download Lion. On the other computer open the App Store, log on using the same Apple ID, re-download Lion at no extra charge.

  • Why isn't my ios7 compatible with iOS 10.5.8 this is ridiculous I spent a lot of money on all my apple products just to have to buy an iOS upgrade to sync my music

All my products are apple I just bought iPhone 5 which is ios7 my iMac is osx 10.5.8.  Apple are you kidding me that I have to upgrade to a new osx just to upload my music from my osx 10.5.8???? Must you selfishly greedily make me upgrade just to upload my songs from iTunes? Bert dissappointed in you apple.  Why not just make iTunes compatible with the ios7????? Really?? You need to fix this problem make iTunes from my osx 10.5.8 compatible with my iPhone ios7.   ***? Frustrating that an apple product is not compatable with another apple product which I spent ridiculous amounts of money for both my iMac and iPhone 5 isn't it enough that I spent ober 2000$ on my iMac and my iPhone just to have it not able to upload my songs??? What do u suggest I do buy snow leopard? Really? If you don't fix this problem how can you expect anyone to keep buying your product I mean come on I know marketing strategies and whatnot but if I spent 2000 + on my iPhone and IMAc should it not at least allow me to use my iTunes with my brand new iPhone and why not just make a dl for 10.5.8 do you really need me to buy snow leapord? Really? What is the meaning of this it is very frustrating seem like you guys purposefully make me and everyone spend more money for no reason.

    1) The people responding in this forum are just other Apple product users like you, not Apple itself.  Apple Support Communities is primarily an end-user to end-user (i.e., users like you helping other users) technical issue support feature. Feedback will truly get more attention if you send it using:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
    2)  At some stage developers decide it isn't worth the expense of supporting older technology. If I had my way you could still connect iOS7 to OS9, but Apple has decided to make the limit OS 10.6.8  Nor do I like that I can't get spare parts for my 33 year old car...
    Suggestions...
If you are not going to always be running the newest technology always read software requirements before doing any upgrades.  I run a 12 year old computer and yes, I see there are things I can't run (many), but I also then avoid buying any incompatible new technology.  The system requirements are printed on the side of the box (albeit in 9 point medium gray font on light gray box   )  Do not expect the Apple Store people to check with you about your computer first.  I bet half of them were still in grade school when my computer was produced and none of them could possibly imagine anybody would run anything older than 6 years (probably not even that, more like 4).
Why not buy Snow Leopard?  Of course you do not say what model computer you are using, but if you can run Snow Leopard on your computer there's no advantage to staying with Leopard.  Snow Leopard costs $20 which is minimal compared to you now no longer being able to sync your phone.

I'd swear I posted almost this identical post two hours ago...
If you can't/don't want to upgrade your computer, you have 30 days to return the phone I believe.

  • Why do I have to buy Mountain Lion and  Mountain Lion server to upgrade my Lion server?

    Hi !
I can't find any option in app store to direct buy OSX Mountain Lion Server to upgrade my Mini i7 Lion Server ?!? Just necessary purchased the Mountain Lion and BUY AGAIN OSX Server Packet $19, billing Twice ?!?!

You are looking at a radical change, 10.8 Server is not an "Upgrade", it's an application. The previous Apache is still at its old location but is unused xcept for some .conf files. The arrangement and configuration of 10.8 Server.app is a big change from 10.7 so plan on some relearning. You will buy the application Server.app which on first run installs components at /Library/Server/*. Most everything is now inside the Server.app package in the Applications folder including all scripts for Wiki pages and several Apple specific Apache modules. Apple is also replacing the messy *.conf flat text files with plist files so that is an improvement. In addition, Python script support is now built-in as well as WSGI for those running Python webapps.
Having said that, some parts have sharp edges so don't expect full operation for a few versions.

  • Mac Calendar won't sync since Mountain Lion upgrade

Since updating my Mac to Mountain Lion, the Calendar won't sync to iCloud. My iPhone and iPad calendars are syncing fine with the same account. The error message is "The server responded with an error. Calendar couldn't connect to p01-caldav.icloud.com."
Getting this error message on both Macbook Pro and iMac machines.  Checked all the basic settings.

  • I have two computers to upgrade to mountain lion. Do I have to buy it twice?

If you purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store, then you can re-download and install it on as many computers as you own at no additional charge.

  • Is there an application like "snag it" for mac?  Does it come with the Mountain Lion OS, or do I have to buy it separately?

Is there an application like "snag it", which is part of the Microsoft Office suite for mac?  Does it come with the Mountain Lion OS, or do I have to buy it separately?  If it is a separate purchse, what would you recommend?

Built-in to OS X is the ability to capture an entire screen or selected portions. Snaps are saved to the Desktop by default:
    COMMAND-SPACE-3 snaps the entire screen.
COMMAND-SPACE-4 lets you select a portion of the screen to snap.
In your Utilities folder is a utility called Grab that provides similar functionality and more.
Then there are dozens of third-party solutions such as SnapNDrag and SnapzProX. You will find them and others at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. Most have trial versions or trial times so you can test them out.

  • Can I add my existing, licensed apps to my list of 'Purchases' on the Mac App Store so I don't have to buy them twice?

    Hello,
I was wondering if I could add my existing, licensed apps to the list of app 'Purchases' that I have on the Mac App Store.
The reason for this is that I recently suffered the inevitable hard disk failure and I had to rebuild my MacBook Pro from scratch (with the help of Time Machine and Migration Assistant, etc.). As usual, I hadn't really maintained my MBP for quite a while and things sort of got away from me, in terms of data, apps, preferences, permissions, users (my personal account, my wife's account, my old work account...), etc.
So I wanted to rebuild my MBP on a clean slate. I like having the ability to quickly download and install just the right apps that I "really" need from MAS safe in the knowledge that:
they are there (assuming they're still available through MAS) with a full description of what they do and when I bought them, etc.
they are going to be in the most up-to-date version,
I'll be able to download and install them cleanly with no corruption from years of multiple user preference changes and permissions, etc.
that they will be managed and maintained (updated) through the same mechanism,
    so much more.
The benefits of having apps from MAS are easy to see when compared to going through my downloads folder and emails looking for the latest installers, working out what they're for in the first place, finding the license key in some forgotten e-mail, etc.
I am aware that I can build a clean machine and then restore just the right apps in their most up-to-date version as I had them on my backups.  The one thing to say about that is that the apps may have been used and abused once too many times and their preferences, etc. may not be in the most desirable form. It's just not as elegant as the MAS solution.
I realise that not all apps, app versions, or app vendors, are available through MAS. But I still have a fair few apps currently available on MAS that were bought prior to the existence of MAS, prior to them becoming available on MAS, or were bought directly for some other reason (by mistake).
So I wondered if there was any way I could convert my legitimate licenses from simply a direct purchase to one through MAS and have those apps listed under my 'Purchases' list. It would reduce the amount of work I'd have to do, not only to rebuild my machine but also to maintain it.
I cannot find any reference or way of having this work the way I would like it to. But I was hoping that some Apple guru would enlighten me.
I have thought about the possible mechanisms something like this would need to work and I must admit I see some not insurmountable issues (not as much technical as legal or possibly logistical). I realise that MAS is a service in its own right and as such has its own Terms, Conditions and Licensing that may not be compatible with the licenses that I already have. I also realise that when I purchase an app from MAS that I'm paying for the entire service including updates and use on multiple machines that I may own, etc. Obviously I do not want to pay the full purchase cost again for the same app twice, but I am willing to pay a small conversion/upgrade fee to have it managed as part of my 'Purchases' on MAS.  Think of it in the same terms as iTunes works.  I can purchase music, etc. but I can also add my own CD collection and have it managed by iTunes and store it in the cloud should anything go wrong with my local machine, etc.
So if this is currently not possible, then for the Apple MAS product managers out there, consider this as a suggestion/feedback.  I'd be happy to discuss my thoughts in more detail about not only how to achieve this for now but also for the future when you may add existing applications to MAS that people may have previously bought direct and would like to have managed through MAS going forward. The benefits to the users are hopefully clear, but from Apple's perspective I hope that you can see the advantages too, commercially, etc.
PS: I apologise for the wordiness of my query and overuse of 'etc.', etc.

Can I add my existing, licensed apps to my list of 'Purchases' on the Mac App Store so I don't have to buy them twice?
No. Only apps purchased from the App Store can be re downloaded for free including updates.
