I have new Windows 7 computer and want to connect and copy Itunes backed up folder from external HD (a year ago) to new computer and install new Itunes and new IOS. What steps should I take and what precautions? I don't want to lose any data on my phone such as music, photos, contacts, notes, texts etc, nor lose music from prior backed up Itune folder. Apps should be OK from app store? Thanks for any help.

I don't know if an additional MPEG-2 QuickTime component is required under Lion, you'll have to check that yourself. So, in the end, it's MPEG-4. My Mac mini is running very slow, I suspect it is a software problem. I'm new to Mac and would appreciate some suggestions on what steps to take.

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
          SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

Report to police along with serial number. Change all your passwords.

I tried a different photo, and the corruption took place at the same moment of the video. How do I prepare the video for export to get it ready for youtube? I wasn't sure whether to clik web or web streaming. Am I supposed to clik Quick Time after I clik Share?

I unfortunately cannot remember where I got the 'trrndlines' plugin... I assume that it must have been from CFX (as it is located under /Users/Dom/Library/iMovie/Plug-ins/cfx/XXXtrrndlines.bundle).
As for what it does, I also do not know, as I do not think I ever used it in my previous video projects.
At this stage, I think I just need to uninstall it so that iMovie doesnt try to use it.
Do you know how to uninstall a CFX plugin in iMovie?
NOTE: I have re-installed iMovie 6.0.4 (instead of iMovie 6.0.3), but still encounter the same issue.

Cannot figure out how to copy saved library from external drive to new pc

Press *and hold* the shift key while starting itunes. When prompted, choose to open an existing library.
Browse to the ITL file you backed up on the exHD.
The ITL database file is what holds all the metadata you're missing.

My DVD-ROM drive does not work -- what steps should I take?

MacBook Pro, a couple of years old. Was used by an employee for 2 years, now have it at home and found that the DVD-ROM drive does nothing when I insert a disc.
What I really would like to know is what are the first steps with this. I don't want to send the machine somewhere. Should I just get a cheap external? Could it be software?

If by Does nothing you mean it doesn't even pull in the disk. That sound slike hardware not software.
I imagine it is out of warranty? If it is covered take it to be repaired in a mac store. If not I personally would opt for an external as the cost would be much more appealing. But doesn't hurt to inquire about the cost for having a new internal, or even fixing your current one.
But for my money I would opt for external.

Copying /private folder from external hard drive to Macintosh HD?

I've recently used Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC) to make a copy of my internal hard drive (HD) to my external one (EHD). Since then, whilst booting from my EHD, I erased the HD in order to re-format and then partition it with Boot camp assistant. However, CCC didn't manage to copy everything back, saying there wasn't enough space. I'm now trying to copy across the essentials from my EHD to be able to boot again from the HD. The files I'm copying across are:
/Library
/System
/bin
/etc
/mach_kernel
/private
/sbin
/tmp
/usr
/var
However, when I try to copy /private over, the Copy window finder opens just stays stuck on Zero KB of 5.51GB. I've tried copying across the four folders within /private individually and they all work except for /private/var (which I think is the same /var that is in the list above) which has done the same thing again, freezing on the Zero KB of 5.51GB.
So the question is, why is it doing this and what can I do to make it copy across more easily?

Just to let people know, I managed to get around it by narrowing it down by just copying everything in var over individually and eventually I got there. Not the most eloquent of solutions but it worked.

Make sure to ask for the 10.6.7 version as they sent me 10.6.3 which has no App Store that is needed to install Lion, or Mountain Lion. They said it is in the update but I just updated and still no App Store visible. Argh! You have to get the Snow Leopard Disk via mail but will be able to download Lion and/or Mountain lion directly from the App Store, and why you need to make sure they send the correct version if you do order the SL disk. Just an FYI!:)

Looks like its fixed. I am syncing it now. A lot of the answers are for the new iphone so i had to mess with a bunch of settings as well. My old phone is now an 8 gig ipod. the books app no longer works and that *****.....but better than nothing...
