I have 64 bit windows 7 and CS4 Production Premium. I have a problem with Premiere Pro CS4, it keeps freezing and Crashing. A simple thing like leaving the project idle for about 15 minutes, you come back and find that it has frozen. Also if you drag out a clip on the timeline you will find that the whole application freezes. Any possible solutions would be much appreciated.

Could be several factors at play here. This ARTICLE might give you some tips on getting your computer ready for an editing session. Note that there are some added tips on Win7, thanks to Black Viper, near the end.

  • Graphics Card issues with Premiere Pro CS4

    Hey there,
I've placed the screenshot of my problem at the bottom of this post.
I'm having lots of issues with premiere pro CS4 and editing videos since I upgraded to Windows 7. I have some .mpg and .MP4 videos. Both of which play fine in WMP, VLC, WinAmp, VirtualDJ etc. But when I load them into PPRO CS4, as you can see in the screenshot they go green and pink. And they don't move. I.e you see one still image and hear only audio.
Now a fix I have found for this is to uninstall my graphics card. But this is no way an option to edit videos, as the resoultion goes from 1920 x 1080 to 1024 x 768.
I should add that I am runnig the following system:
    Dell Vostro 1000 Latpop
    Windows 7 Ultimate 32Bit
    2.00Ghz AMD Sempron Processor
    2GB RAM
ATI Radeon XPress 1150 Graphics card
I have the latest graphics card drivers installed. I am just wondering what the problem is, and a potential fix. Would be great to hear any advice,
    Regards,
    Adam.

OK, here are some other things to think about:
ATI/AMD Catalyst seems to have an issue with one of the latest versions, maybe rollback to an earlier version.
Depending on your OS, check Hardware Acceleration (though this usually affect smoothness of playback) in Control Panel>System>Hardware>Advanced.
    Check your OpenGL settings.
In Catalyst, turn OFF any GPU Acceleration
That's about all that I can think of for now, and those are shots in the dark.
    Good luck,

  • Using new Adove Media Encoder with Premiere pro cs4

I have Premiere Pro Cs4 and Design&Web premium CS6 -  which comes with Adobe Media Encoder cs6. Can I get Premiere Pro CS4 to use the new encoder (and hopefully speed up)?

I am on Window 7 32-bit that Premiere CS6 does not work. So I use CS4 for editing. For one specific project, I kept getting errors when using AME CS4 and it was extremely slow (8min of video estimated 20 hours). Someone said CS4 4.2 is really slow so I'd like to use AME CS6 to render project files from CS4. Tried that but got adobe dynamic link components error. I think it may be because I didn't include Premiere and After Effects when installing CS6.
Do you have success using AME CS6 on CS4 project file? Is it likely to make it work without installing CS6 one more time?
    Thanks,

  • What's a good HD camera to use with Premiere Pro CS4

I've used Premiere Pro CS4 for a while now and most of the time I don't have any problems, but recently, I've been buying HD cameras, shooting some AVCHD and then having a hell of a time getting them to play nice with Premiere Pro (or WMindows Media Player... or Quicktime... or anything but their crappy bundled software that won't let me edit or anything). My girlfriend says I should give up and buy a Mac and use FCP, but I like Premiere Pro. I'm about to take another camera back to Best Buy and I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion for the easiest camera to use with Premiere Pro.
In case you're wondering, I've bought a Canon Vixia HF10 and a Samsung HMX-H100 so far and both had every issue I can think of from codec incompatibility to aspect ratios changing to A/V sync being lost to all-out-I-don't-know-WTF-just-happend-errors. I just want a camera that's going to give me a file I can drop straight into Premiere.

Unless you want a new computer, forget about AVCHD. It requires too much muscle to edit comfortably on anything but the fastest computer.
What camera is nice, depends on your budget. Formats that are easy to edit are HDV, DVCProHD (P2) and XDCAM. In the consumer range you could look at the Canon HV40 or XH-A1s, in the prosumer range look at the Panasonic AG-HPX170, Canon XH-H1s, JVC GY-ND250 or Sony HVR Z5 or Z7 and all Sony XDCAM cameras, especially the EX1 and EX3. In the professional range look at the Sony PDW-F355 or upward.

  • QTFC Issues with Premiere Pro CS4?

    Hello there.
So recently, I have been having issues with my adobe programs. I have the Master Collection CS4 and when I launch programs like After Effects, it tells me the following.
"QuickTime functions will be disabled because a compatible version of QuickTime could not be found"
and here's my real issue. When I go to launch Premiere Pro CS4, I get the following error.
"Adobe Premiere Pro.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point QTCF_CFUniCharGetUnicodePropertyDataForPlane could not be located in the dynamic library link QTCF.dll"
I click OK and it pops up again, then premiere launches. How do I get rid of this error? I have tried reinstalling Master Collection and Quicktime but that didn't help.
I cannot afford to reformat computer as I'm very busy and need my programs to work.
Thankyou for your time and support.
    -Matthew.

To answer your question. I had the same problem that you had. I was using Quicktime 7. So I downgraded by downloading Quicktime 6.4
    Here's a link:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120297
So I installed QT 6.4, and the error message is no longer there. But there is another issue, I try to import or find a file that is a .mov and it says File format not supported. Which is weird because you get that if you don't have quicktime installed. That may be an entirely different problem. But hope this at least helps you answer your question.

  • Problem loading premiere pro cs4

    Hello everyone,
I've been trying to open premiere pro cs4 and everytime it gets to "Loading AAF.prm" it unexpectedly quits.I was able to open it before, but recently, I've been getting this problem. Has anyone encountered this problem? Do I have to uninstall the program and reinstall to fix the problem?
    Please advice.
    Thank you.

Actually, partitions present themselves to the OS as physical HDD's, and the OS cannot understand why it's taking so long to get reads/writes. They are hold-overs from OS's many generations back. Other than some esoteric backup schemes, there is no reason to utilize them A program, like Partition Magic, will help rid your system of those.
I do agree that a minimum of 3 fast HDD's is the minimum for Video editing. More, properly allocated, will be better.
Now, with 6x HDD's, I have many Projects with a lot more Clips, and no issues.
    Good luck,

  • Problem with premiere pro and encore with win7 enterprise 64-bit.

We are a college with approx 500 pc's running win7 enterprise 64-bit.  Premiere pro and Encore will only open with admin login, not user login.  All other packages ok. Any suggestions as to why this is?

Our lab has just had CS6 installed on it, running Win 7 enterprise. A user account will open a Premiere Pro project. I've done it. That was only to check that everything worked ok. I edited a couple of clips and stuck them on a sequence (16:9 PAL DV) and it played them ok and the project was saved back to the USB hard drive OK.
I have also opened up encore, made a new project and saved it to the USB HDD. No assets were added to it, just checking that the preference files had copied from the central server to the machine, so that users have certain options already pre-selected.
What exactly are the problems with Win 7 enterprise?

  • Ultra Cs3 with Premiere Pro CS4

I want to make sure I understand the situation with Ultra CS3.
I did not upgrade to CS4, I have a standalone Production Premium CS4.
I uninstalled PP CS3.  I installed PP CS4.  It took two full days to do.
Now I want to use Ultra.
From all I can find, it seems I need to uninstall CS4, re-install CS3, and
then re-install CS4, and then it will work.
Am I missing something here?  I hope this isn't correct, as I don't have
an extra week laying around to accomplish this.
    Thanks in advance,
    DPD

This is a fun question because Ultra isn't in CS4. The answer is basically this...
Install one point product of Production Premium CS3 or Master Collection CS3 which ever package you may have with Ultra CS3, then install your CS4 apps or suite. and if you need to use virtual sets, you can either:
    A. Use your Ultra CS3 software /w virtual sets, export your footage, then import that footage to what ever CS4 apps, you want to use to do some touch up work, this is probably not a perfered method as, exporting from Ultra CS3 is going to render your footage out and make the virtual set part of the footage, so if you needed to do any effects on the set itself, before adding the keyed footage this will be nearly impossible...
    B. In what ever CS4 app you want to use, navigate to your Ultra CS3 folder, and import the virtual sets manually, then use those as a video layer, we can just call it video track 1 for example purposes, and overlay your keyed footage onto video track 2 or what have you... I assume you can figure it out from here...
(This is probably the best way you will find to use the virtual sets in CS4.)

  • Laptop editing with Premiere Pro CS4: what are the most important specs

Laptop Editing: What are the MOST important specs?
Hello everybody, I have been a long time lurker, but I decided to join in and share my voice.
I've been editing, for a while now, various projects of various lenghts shot on my HV20, on an IMac using Adobe Premiere Pro. Actually, I bought the CS4 Extended Production Suite last year  thinking that it made sense to be able to edit, do the coloring and effects+ sound all within the same suite.
AND, it came with OnLocation, wich is, I think, a fantastic tool. I really want to be able to record and monitor my future shoots using OnLocation. I've seen how useful monitors and scopes are on set, and the idea of being able to shoot in HD and actually checking the focus on something larger than a few inches is very appealling!
So a laptop is in my future. Now, what are the most important specs?
    I could buy 1) a barely used Macbook pro early 08- 17" HD led display ,4g Ram ddr2 ,nvidia 8600M GT 512 VRAM ,800Mhz BUS, 200G 7200HD
and have enough money left to buy an Apple Display 30" refurb
    OR 2) a new Macbook pro 17, 4 g Ram ddr3, 512 VRAm, 4g Ram ddr3, double procsessors 9400M+9600M GT 512 VRAM, 1066 BUS, 500G 7200HD
and wait for a second display!
Plus, of course, a portable External Scratch Drive on the Express Card. Now, if that fast drive is handling the footage, could'nt I settle for a 5400HD in the laptop,, they seem much less prone to problems-clicking noise, heat-than the 7200, especially in the new unibody model. Is 800 versus 1066 BUS a terrible trade-off? In terms of secondary displays , I've heard less than lukewarm things about the new Apple 24 LED (glossy is no-no for me).
My intentions are to make documentaries and short fictions as well. I make a living as an actor so I don't need to be performing as a director/editor business wise!
I do want to explore that side of the craft, in a professional and enjoyable way though. I know that, in addition to the laptop, I will get a MacPro in a few years.
Thanks a lot for the inputs!

Successful video editing (as compared to tear your hair out video editing) requires at least two hard drives... one for all software and one for all data... some people use 3 drives, with data on one and scratch files on the 3rd drive
I'm not sure about software, but everything I've ever read in this forum says 5400 is NOT fast enough for the data drive
If you want to edit video... you have to buy the hardware that works

  • Problem with Premiere Pro and Old School X3100

    Hi everyone,
Got a problem here and really looking for help .  I know the intel 965 or X3100 chipset/GPU (in a Dell inspiron 1720 running Win 7 64 bit) is way old school, but as we're waiting for a couple of i7/i5 laptop upgrades, this is what I have to resort to for some minor mobile SD editing (nothing extreme but 15-30s short commercials). With the current Intel driver (8.15.10.1930), the preview monitors (source and sequence) do not work.  They're simply a blank frame (even after I render the sequence).  It seems to be the Intel drivers whooping my butt as there is no problems with the standard W7 WDDM 1.1 display driver, except the computer isn't stable with freezes on wake (and no OpenGL support in PS... which isn't a big deal).  I've also tried Vista 64 drivers in compatibility mode with no luck.
The rest of the CS4 suite works great.  It is not the trial version and I've tried PP 4.0, 4.01, 4.1, 4.2, 4.2.1 (suggested by another post), and reinstallation.  I've also tried changing settings in the Intel drivers and... even modded 965 drivers.
I know the X3100 is quite common (maybe not among PP users...) so any experience you might have would be awesome.  Maybe an older Intel driver?  If you can help me, I'll name my laptop after you!  ...unless you realize that could actually be an insult   Thanks!

This hardware sub-forum is a good place to read about what will run CS5
While HD editing (which I won't do) will require a RAID for data, what I am going to build for SD editing with CS5 and Win7 64bit is listed near the top of my notes page http://www.pacifier.com/~jtsmith/ADOBE.HTM
If you are adept with tools... build your own and save $$

  • Avid codec with premiere pro cs4

has anyone used Avid DnxHD codec with premiere? I cant change the settings of the codec and i wanted to see how much better it would be compared to Apple ProRes422(HQ). Has anyone got it to work or is it a no go? and how come i cant edit the settings of ProRes422?
I use premiere pro instead of Final cut pro because my camera records AVCHD and i dont want to loose any quality in which log and transfer in final cut pro will do.

I believe that DNxHD is a slight modicum of "better" than ProRes--some video guru somewhere on the web did a comparison of the two, and DNxHD came out on top. I personally haven't done a comparison, so I have to take that for what it's worth. I think that for most mere mortals, the differences are going to be minuscule and quite inconsequential--but you might be able to detect the difference ;)
The only way to not compress your video again is, well, to not compress it again. In other words, use something like Apple Animation which will give you a bit-for-bit, pixel-for-pixel copy of your original. Of course, your hard drive will fill up and explode, depending on the length of your export, but that's the trade-off for pristine quality.
Bear in mind that the AVCHD you're working with is already highly compressed. Even at its minimum compression (24Mbps), there's still quite a bit of squeezing going on, as well as other processing going on intrinsic to H.264 that makes it look so purty, but be so damned hard to edit. Again, this is the trade-off. I think you need to carefully weigh the importance of saving a few fleeting pixels over the mountain of hard drive space that you'll need to store these massive exports. You get six of one, or a half dozen of the other.
Since you've got the Master collection, I'd suggest sending your finished PPro timeline to AE via Dynamic Link (lasso your clips, right-click, and hit "Send to After Effects"). You don't need to change anything there; just put that comp into the render queue, tweak your settings for DNxHD/ProRes export, and go to town. Like Josh, I can't speak to ProRes because I'm on Windows and we can only play it back, but you should be able to change its settings there. If not, go with DNxHD because you have full customization of the codec at your fingertips--colorspace included.
Regarding the audio: don't sweat that AE can't export or deal with 5.1. Just export that from PPro, either as a mix (if you can do that--I'm not sure as I don't work in 5.1) or as 6 mono files. Then, just store those with the video rendered out of AE. You can always stitch everything back together later in your NLE of choice, and export/render out a distribution format. Make it easy on yourself!
