The software that comes with your refurbished Mini should be identical to that which comes with a new Mini. Disk Utility should be in Applications > Utilities. Alternatively, choosing Utilities from the Go menu at the top of the finder windownwill take you directly to the Utilities folder.

I have a 2010 mac book pro and track pad is not working well, is there a problem with that year. I heard that the 2011's had track pad trouble.
All recent versions of Mac OS X use bash, so avoiding Mavericks won't help you with that problem (which isn't a problem for most users).
iWeb is another matter. My advise: migrate your website to Wordpress first and start thinking about upgrades later. -
2010 Mac Mini display and network issues after Mountain Lion installation
I just installed Mountain Lion on my 2010 Mac Mini, but now the display won't work and it isn't showing up on my network. I have it hooked up to my TV (I don't have another screen for it) via HDMI. Also, I've mainly used this computer by using the share screen function with my laptop, so I don't have a keyboard or mouse for it either. The Mini is no longer showing up on my laptop's network list... Any suggestions?
I would see if you borrow a USB keyboard and mouse
from some one, because otherwise trouble shooting the
problem will be next to impossible as sometimes the fixes
and diagnostics require the keyboard (PRAM reset, Hardware
Test, etc.). -
So I have a new Mac Mini CD and 2 External 2.0 HDs
I have almost 500 GB of backed up Divx Movies and Shows, but when I try to access them through FrontRow, they take forever to load. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a way to fix it?
I have 512MB Ram, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. If it is, does anyone know how to increase my Virtual Ram?
I'm trying to make a great Home Entertainment System, but the lag is killing me! ***** when friends want to see it and it takes forever to load!Does it take as long to play the movies directly? Or is this a Front Row issue only?
Mac OS X changes the virtual memory dynamically depending on what the operating system and applications need. But, I would make sure that you have some free hard drive space on the system hard drive so you can store the swap files that are created with virtual memory.

I have a 2010 Mac Mini running Snow Leopard (10.6) how do I update?
I want to update my 2010 MM running 10.6.8 to something new. How do I do it?
Open the Mac App Store and download Yosemite. If you don't want to upgrade all the way, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7; the online Apple Store also sells download codes for Mountain Lion 10.8.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

i want to know how to fix this
Launch the Console application by entering the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search, and look under "System Diagnostic Reports" for crash logs. Select the most recent one and post the contents -- the text, please, not a screenshot. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report.

Why does my mac mini crash and reboot when I do a time machine backup to a USB Hard Disk?
This is the second time it has happened, the first was with a powered USB Hard Disk, this time with a WD Elements HD.
The first time, it crashed and popped up an alert saying the machine needed to be restarted.
After restarting it continued, then around half way through it crashed again.
It then would not boot as it said the Mac Mini's HD was corrupted.
Tried to repair using the recovery mode, with no joy.
Reformatted Hard Disk, went to recover using online recovery, got a 6002F error and it wouldn't reinstall
Took to apple service centre, they wanted to charge to reinstall the OS (put them straight on that ).
Now it looks like it's doing it again, this time after the first crash I'm just copying the files I need manually to the external Hard Disk, which so far is OK.
Seems these macs aren't so reliable.
Any ideas?
CheersHi den.thed,
thanks for the tips, unfortunately when tryong to start the machine to do a Hardware test (to check RAM) I get the error 6002D so I'm guessing there's something more complicated afoot.
Unfortunatley the service centre here in Malaysia doesn't seem to have any "Geniuses" or indeed any "Comptencies" as it has only just come back from their after they had it for a week.
Makes me want to buy Dell, at least the come to you to fix.

Hi Everyone,
Hoping I can get some advice.
I have a 2010 Mac Mini and am thinking about upgrading to OSX Lion.
Although I know my Mac meets the system requirments (Intel Core 2 Duo, 2Gb RAM), I was wondering what the performace is like on with these specs.
I mainly use my Mac for iTunes, Safari, Twitter and iPhoto if that makes any difference.
Thanks! It works ok for me, I've got a 2010 mini (base model) and am using it as a server for web, iTunes and VPN. It handles lion fine, the only quibble is that being always on it heats up during the day a lot, more so than when I had Snow leopard installed. It's not to unacceptable levels though. But as dingy and beezelbubba say, Ram is cheap nowadays and if you've got the spare cash it's always worth it.

I have a new Mac Mini, and I want to send raw video...
I have a new Mac Mini (Lion), and I want to send raw video to the Internet, using Ustream, Skype or other services. I don't need cameras, microphones, or other periphrals. My video consists of 1 volt composite (from a video switcher), and the audio is full stereo at 600 ohm line level on each channel. What do I need?
I have a video capture card on my Windows machine; but the results have been crappy at best. And the so-called "Geek Squad" at Best Buy (where I bought the Mac Mini) have been less than helpfull. Further, the on-line Apple Store shows nothing. Maybe someone here has an idea. You are going to need a video capture device of some sort and I believe the following will be suitable.

It is available in the US as well http://www.elgato.com/elgato/na/mainmenu/products/Video-Capture/product1.en.html -
2010 Mac Mini OS 10.10.1 screen is stretched out
Hi,
I have a 2010 Mac Mini that I use at work and I also use a second monitor via an adapter through USB. The setup worked until I installed Yosemite (10.10.1) on Friday.
When I go to Settings / Displays I don't get all the resolution options I had before (for my main monitor, 20", res. 1680 x 1050) and my secondary monitor isn't recognized at all (as if it wasn't even connected).
This is my main monitor: http://www.pcworld.com/product/1417007/lg-l203wt-widescreen-lcd-monitor.html
I've tried resetting the PRAM but that didn't work. I'm a designer and I can't work with my screen stretched out.
Can anyone let me know if there is a way to fix this???
Thanks in advance!Look for update software for the USB video adopter.
The 2010 mini has an HDMI video adopter and came with a HDMI to DVI adopter, It also has a mini displayport video output. You can get an adopter to connect HDMI, DVI and VGA,
Mini DisplayPort with support for up to 2560-by-1600 resolution
HDMI port with support for up to 1920-by-1200 resolution
DVI output using HDMI to DVI Adapter (included)
VGA output using Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter (sold separately)
Support for extended desktop and video mirroring across both ports -
I have a 2010 mac mini and it is displaying that I only have 1gb of ram, but it should display that I have 2gb. Please help!!
Do a proper shut down from the apple menu
Then flip the mini upside down and open the bottom cover
check and see if there are 2 ram DIMMs installed
if there are, I would take them out and swap their positions

Have a 2010 Mac Mini Server 4 GB RAM 2.66 Ghz running OSX Server 10.6.7.
Ever since I purchased in February 2011, the machine has had skipping audio regardless of the source - You Tube or other internet streaming, local quick time movie playback, i-tunes, you name it - it ihas audio skipping and stuttering.
I also have two 2nd Gen Apple TV's that run via Home Share from this Mac Mini. There are no audio problems when the Apple TV's playback movies or music. Perfect playback.
My Mac Mini is connected to my LCD TV directly via HDMI. Have tried various different resolutions. Is this a driver problem with the Mac Mini, an interface problem with the HDMI, or what? It is a very annoying problem that ruins the Mac experience for a family that has just cast off windows completely to go Mac!
Please help!
Wondering if this could be a PAL/NTSC problem. I am an American living in Sweden and purchased the Mac Mini in the US while on vacation. The PAL 50 Mhz setting is greyed out in the display preferences. Could this be a part of the culprit?Hey David,
My issue was resolved by ensuring that I was using a PAL resolution and frequency (720p @ 50 Hz or 1080p @ 50 Hz) for my PAL TV. Anything else causes audio stuttering through my HDMI cable.
Don't ask me why. Try this on your setup by using only the one of your TV's native resolutions and frequencies (Should say NTSC Television on every native TV resolution if you are in the US, PAL Television in Europe). If you do have an NTSC TV, then you might be able to use all of the 60 Hz frequency resolutions without HDMI audio out problems, but I wouldn't count on it.
From what I've researched on the issue, it is only TV's that have this problem, and it is a strange one, as it is actually a display setting problem with an audio error symptom. -
Audio output using HDMI in 2010 mac mini cuts out. Anyone know of fixes?
I have a 2010 mac mini that I hook up with my Samsung C6300 LED tv using an HDMI monster cable. I have never had any issues withn this setup prior to the new Lion software installed and ever since then the audio will cut out for a split second every minute or so (very annoying). I listen to my music library and watch movies through itunes and vlc and I experience this problem with all these tasks. I also have a MacBook Pro (early 2011) that i experience no such issue with while performing the same tasks. Is anyone else having such issues or know of a fix. All my software is up to date so I know that is not the problem. Any help would be much appreciated.
Sincerely
jortiz0221Lion has created numerous issues for 2010 MacMinis for
lots of folks. However, it seems there is not a "one shot"
fix for everyone.
For instance, I have no issues playing music from iTunes
on my Mini, but iTunes movies stutter some times to the
point of being unwatchable. Yet, other software, PLEX and
XBMC for instance, have no similar issues for me. But there
are others that are seeing the complete opposite from my
experiences. Basically, I think Lion has too many "loose ends"
that are causing such a wide variety and unpredictability in
its operation.
As for VLC, gave up on that long ago as it seemed to flakey
to me and never could get it to work consistantly. -
Mountain Lion purchased from Mac store will not download. 'Downloading' simply stays greyed out for hours. Nothing I do changes it. I am running OS 10.6.8 on a 2010 Mac Mini. What do I do now?
If you are looking at the front page of the App Store and you are seeing the "downloading" message on the right under Quick Links.
Try this... Go into the "Purchases" section in the top bar of the App Store find ML in the list you are presented with. Does it say Resume? If so click the button and it will change to Pause. You may have paused it previously and forgot.
If not then do as Csound1 suggested and simply wait for it to finish

Mac mini server and harddrive 1 of 2 failed now fan runs full speed
I have a 2010 mac mini server. One of the drives failed.
I took out the bad one and the fan started to run full speed.
Replaced that drive with a new one. runs great but fan is running.
I put the temp sensor in exact same place but had to use a small pc of tape
to hold it on. I used the same tape that was holding the wires to the drive.
I used the temp sensor connector on the logic board closest to the fan connector?
Does that matter?Hello, possible work arounds...
HDD Fan Control
HDD Fan Control works to fix this issue by reading the drives internal temperature using the S.M.A.R.T protocol and set the fans actual speed to a value good to protect the drive. It runs at startup and continually to always control the fan correctly, prevent the loud fan noise and protect the drive from overheating.
Free SSDFan Control...
