I have a 2nd gen. iPod Touch running software 4.2.1 Some apps I had before I can't get them anymore. I had to restore it

Can anyone help me as to why I can't get my tumblr, facebook & other apps back?

Unless you have the previous versions on your computer such as in a computer backup you are out of luck. You can only get eh current versions from the App store.

I have a 2nd gen iPod touch.  Is it possible & how can or do I delete applications such as Nike + iPod, Game Center, Maps, Calculator, & other similar applications that I absolutely do not want or that I have major issues & prioblems using?

All the other apps can not be deleted but if you want to get rid of the icons go to setting>general>ristrictions>and disable the stuff that you want.

is there a way to get older versions of apps - for a 2nd gen ipod touch with ios 4.2.1

The only way is to jailbreak and download cracked apps, but I would recommend you wouldn't do that as this is piracy and jailbreaking is illegal in some countries.

  • HT1296 I have a 2nd Gen iPod Touch and it does not sync with the new iTunes please is there a fix coming?

I Have a 2nd gen iPod and it will not sync with the new update of iTunes is there a fix coming for this or not I'd hate to have to buy a new iPod if I don't have to

Have you tried syncing manually using the manual method included in
iTunes 11 for Windows: Set up syncing for iPod, iPhone, or iPad
Was the iPod previously synced to another computer/iTunes library?
Next wold be to retore from backup.

  • I have a 2nd generation ipod touch and it wont let me download apps onto it is thir anything i can do

When i am trying to download it says that i dont have the upto date software but when i click on the update button is says i am upto date ?
Does anyone know if this can be fixed or if it is due to the model being old

If you are running iOS 3.1.3, it is very likely you have a 1st generation iPod touch. That is the highest iOS version it can handle.
Regardless, you can find plenty of apps in the iTunes store which run on older devices. Here is my favorite solution for filtering compatible apps:
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
And here are some things other people have suggested:
    Vintapps 3.1.3 - paid app.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.

  • HT201272 I have a 2nd gen ipod touch and had to restore it from back up. When I did that, I lost a lot of apps that I had previously purchased and now they will not re-install. How do I get the apps to install on the ipod now?

Please help Obi Wan, you're my only hope.

So you are saying that you purchased it by:
Purchasing iOS 3.1 Software Update for iPod touch (1st generation)
Is iTunes signed into the same iTunes account that purchased it?
How long ago did you purchase it?
Did you purchase it on another computer?

  • I have a 2nd gen ipod touch. Recently I updated the OS from original second gen to the latest available which is software 4.2.1. Since doing this the ipod will no longer play music, videos, or stream online content. Any ideas how to fix it please?

I have tried restoring factory settings and loading the preferences I saved before updating the OS.
Neither of these methods have any effect.
The ipod also seemingly prevents you from restarting the ipod using the earlier OS software when resorting from recovery mode.
    Any other ideas?
    Cheers
    Dan

    - Downgrading the iOS is not supported by Apple.
    - When restoring to factory defaults/new iPod fails to resolve a problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment a the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

When I clicked 'check for update' it just says that 2.2.1 is the current version
It will - until you purchase iOS 3.
Follow the link that stedman provided, and on that page, instead of choosing the link to iOS4, choose Purchase the iOS 3.1 Software Update directly from the iTunes Store. When you choose it, iTunes will open to the store and page for buying (purchasing) the update. It doesn't cost much (a few dollars although I cannot recall precisely) and it is the only way to update from you current iOS version. Once you do that, a further update to iOS 4.2.1 is free. That particular update may occur straight away, I don't know.
By the way, iOS 4.2.1 is as high as the 2nd generation Touch can go, but don't let that put you off. I have one and although I cannot install the BBC iPlayer (because it requires iOS 5) there are many Apps that work perfectly well with iOS 4.2.1.
    decy95:
I've just read the another discussion (to which you contributed), in which Illaass suggests that you may have a 1st generation Touch. If that is so, then your iPod will only be able to update to iOS 3.1.3. This will still need to be purchased, but be aware that many Apps require iOS 4 or higher, so your options would be more limited. So follow the link Illaass provided to confirm which model you have.

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

  • 2nd Gen Ipod Touch screen just went dim

On my 2nd gen ipod touch my screen just went dark, no "backlight" or brightness. I'vwe turned off the auto brightness, I've restored the whole ipod and I am running iOS4.1. Up until today I have had no problem like this. I, of course, can't find anything on the forums similar to this. When I bring the ipod out of sleep I have a lit screen until I slide the bar to unlock, then boom no light. If I catch the screen in the right light I can see the apps, but other than that, NO Deal. Is there a fix??? Is anyone else having this problem???
    thanks
    Tim

Well, I think it is fixed or I have gone the longest amount of time with the screen not going dim, no thanks to Apple.
I went as far as trying to jailbreak my ipod and "downgrading" to iOS3. I got it jailbrokenm but could not downgrade to anything, so I went back to iOS4.2.1.  It actually worked worse while jailbroken, the screen never lit up.  The "fix" came about when I created a whole new library for the ipod, loaded a fresh download of iOS4.2.1 and took all of the extra apps off and so far the screen has been staying lit all the time.  the only thing i can think off was that there was something wrong with library file.  Now if Apple could come up with an easy was for me to have my ipod open the new library when connected istead of me having to do the Shift+click method, becasue I am not sure if it is safe to delete the original library file.
Anyone having the same problem try creating a new iTunes library and copying your music files over, hopefully it helps you too.

  • 2nd Gen iPod Touch, 2008 MacBook Pro OSX Ver. 10.5.8 - Any Point in iCloud?

I have a 2nd Gen iPod Touch, and a 2008 MacBook Pro OSX Ver. 10.5.8
I've used .Mac/MobileMe since 2008 and I have all of my documents on iDisk. If I upgrade to iCloud, what is going to happen? I know all of my stuff will be in the cloud, but will I be able to access it in any way with this equipment?
In short, is there any point in me upgrading to iCloud?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You need Lion to run iCloud, if your MacBook can't be upgraded to Lion, it can't run iCloud.
ICloud does not replace iDisk, which you could continue to use until it is retired in June 2012 (with or without upgrading to iCloud)

  • 2nd gen iPod touch - do I need to use Google calendar now?

I've updated my Mac to OSX 10.7.2 but I've not upgraded to iCloud, because I have a 2nd gen iPod touch.
As I've read Apple has not including calendars support for these, do I need to use Google calendar now?
I had Mac's for 15 years and even subscribed to MobileMe
If they're dumping my 2 year old bit of kit it's a poor show, I will keep it going as it still does a job for me, it's a shame I'll may have to move away from apple and I guess iTunes too.

That I know I've read that but unless someone comes up with a work around, before then, I'll move to google or yahoo calendars.
I'm Mac through and through, a total fan but like alot of people these day I'm having to cut back, yes it's nice I'm not paying the mobileme sub anymore but I can't justify buying a new ipod or stretching to an iphone.
Maybe I having to grow away from Apple.

  • 2nd gen iPod touch+iOS 4.2.1=problems

Hi!I have a 2nd gen iPod touch which has iOS 4.2.1 I'm using it with a Samsung Galaxy microphone headset. Since I have iOS 4.2.1 on the iPod, it skips tracks, stops in the middle of the track and starts to play another one or just simply puts itself into FFW or stops while in my pocket. I'm using the device with this Samsung Galaxy earphone/mic combination for a long time, however I had no problems with it under earlier iOS versions. The shuffle for shake option is switched off in the settings of the iPod. Why is my iPod still going crazy in my pocket? Even when the screen is locked?

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults.
If you still have the problem then you may have a problem with the headphones. Maybe a bad connection or intermitent short/open.

  • How to sync contacts to 2nd gen iPod touch?

I have a 2nd gen iPod Touch, and have just moved from MobileMe to iCloud on all of my other devices which are supported.  On the iPod Touch I now should be able to sync contacts and calendars only via iTunes, since it will not work with iCloud.  All is well with calendar syncing.  However, even though I have the appropriate boxes checked in iTunes to sync contacts, I get "no contacts" on the Touch.  What might I be doing wrong?  Thanks!

Thanks, I had seen that support article.  It states that although the Touch will not sync with iCloud, both calendar and contact data will continue to reside locally on the device.  In my case this is true, and can sync locally with iTunes, for iCal, but not for contacts.
