I have a 4th generation ipod touch and I want to move my itunes library to a different computer, can I just download itunes or will my ipod software be too old?

Can I just download the newest itunes and still have my 4th generation ipod work with it?

I have a new windows 7 pc and i want to move my iTunes mediathek (Music, movies) to it. by using an external driver (Hd.). But On the new pc iTunes does Not integrales the Media files.

Copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to /Music/ on new computer.
    Launch iTunes.
That is all you need to do.

  • I have a 4th generation iPod touch which was working perfectly until I downloaded ios5 and now it won't connect to my wi-fi - all other devices working correctly. Where can I download ios 4.3.5 from?

I have a 4th generation iPod touch which was working perfectly until I downloaded ios5 and now it won't connect to my wi-fi - all other devices working correctly. My pc didn't create a backup before updating software so I can't revert back to ios 4.3.5 from there, where can I download ios 4.3.5 from?

I tried just about everything and finally brought my Ipod touch to the apple store.  The tech installed ios 4.3.5 but still no WIFI.  He recommended a $149 exchange - not really a bad deal with a new battery and 90 day warranty, but I thought I'd try again.
The "solution" was bizarre.  On YouTube was a fix involving taking the motherboard out and heating the wifi components with a heat gun.
I did not like that idea, but another involved turning it off, putting it in the freezer for five minutes and restarting.  It worked!  I must admit the fix does not work reliably, so I may still go for the exchange.  Still, I am now convinced that it is a hardware problem.    i remember back in the old days, TV repairmen sprayed a suspected bad resistor with Freon.  The chilled component would work long enough to identify what needed replacement.  Perhaps something similar is happening here.
For anyone wanting to try this, I found it more convenient to place the back of my ipod on a  frozen cold pack until the wifi is restored.  It seems to happen when condensation forms on the face.  I used a towel to wipe off the moisture so as not to add to the problem.

Both my iPod and computer (mac) say that iOS 6.1.5  is the latest software available. I have a 4th generation iPod touch, how do I get it to update to iOS 7?

. As Apple said in June, iOS 7 is not compatible with the 4G iPod.
All the iOS devices compatible (iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, and 5G iPod touch) with iOS 7 have at least 512 MB of memory (RAM). The 4G iPod only has 256 MB

I have a 4th generation ipod classic (click wheel) and it's giving me a sad ipod error as well as not mounting in itunes... I hear a clicking inside when it is connected to power but nothing is working. Help!

You won't believe this but a friend of mine (who happens to be an Apple Genius) told me to put a towel or cloth on a sturdy countertop (I know this may sound weird) but hold the selct button (in the center) and menu part of the wheel at the same time until an Apple logo comes up on the screen and then quickly turn the ipod on it's side and wack it on the counter where the towel is so as not to damage anything cosmetically. It seems the clicking is the hard drive reader is stuck and this dislodges it. Mine works now (no clicking) and all seems to be well again. Who knew?

  • I have a 4th generation iPod shuffle which does not show up in windows or iTunes. But my iPhone does any suggestions?

I have a 4th generation iPod shuffle which is not recognised in windows or iTunes when I connect to the computer , yet I have no problem when I connect my iPhone. I have installed the latest iTunes. Can anybody help me?

Thanks! But I actually figured it out! Right after I said something about the driver, I went into device mangager. Sure enough even though it did not show up as a drive letter the device manager said is was installed and working.
So I deleted the device out of device manager. Restarted and plugged it in. Although I go some weird error. It found the IPOD and now Itunes sees it.
I believe that killing the process would have done the same thing as you stated.
Thanks to all for taking the time to answer these issues. It beats the apple store or tech support.

Apple will only give you a 10% discount on a new iPod if your turn in an old one.  You are better off selling it yourself.

  • ITunes thinks I have a 4th Generation iPod when it really is a nano

Hey, so I downloaded itunes 7.0.1 and the plugged in my iPod Nano (1st generation). Then it says: "Some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPod "My iPod" because your iPod software is too old. Go to Summary tab in iPod preferences and click Update to get the latest iPod software update". So I went to the summary tab and first off I notice that the picture of what my iPod is looks a whole lot more like a 4th generation iPod than a iPod nano (it used to show a iPod Nano). Can any help me with why my iTunes is acting up?

I have a copy of Windows 7, and I am trying to bring up Boot Camp on my MacBook with Snow Leopard. But my Snow Leopard install disk is too old for Windows 7, so attempted Boot Camp install of drivers fails.
I have hand-installed the NVidia graphics driver, and I have keyboard, minimal trackpad, and hardwire to internet all working. So the WIndows machine is usable. But I am hurting for wi-fi, better trackpad, and whatever else is delivered by Boot Camp. I can't use any of the Boot Camp upgrades because I do not have XP or Vista.

While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use Boot Camp. There's a Boot Camp Support Community where everybody uses Boot Camp. You should also post this question there.

  • Old issue re-emerges: "iPod Software is too old" - but update not available

I found this issue discussed in October 2005, but the suggested fix then doesn't seem to work now.
Today, for the first time, I got an error when syncing my iPod, stating that some music could not be synced because my iPod software is too old. Of course, when I click the update button, it says I have the most recent version. If I try syncing again, I get the same error.
    I have iTunes 7.1.1, and iPod software v. 3.1.1
I've even tried restoring the iPod, but when I try that it says that my iPod cannot be found... which of course is nonsense because iTunes was just syncing with it and it's visible in the Devices list.
    Any suggestions?

Some more info on the problem --
Possibly related, possibly not -- the iPod has also been freezing periodically. Usually it happens while starting up or shortly after. If I put the iPod up to my ear, I can hear the drive whir then click and stop, and repeat. I've found that hitting the iPod can sometimes change the sound the drive makes, but I don't think it ever brought the drive back to life. Getting it back from being frozen seems random but does happen. Usually it was by restoring (before this "iPod Software is too old" problem began). This morning, when I plugged it in to check to make sure it saw the model correctly, it took 3 tries to start up (the first two times it brought up the unhappy iPod image, but then immediately went back to the apple and tried again).
I purchased the iPod refurbished from the apple site a little less than a year ago. It's a Click Wheel, B/W screen... I think that's a 4th generation, but I don't want to misrepresent it.
Should I just take it in to the nearest Apple Store and get their genius bar to look at it? Frankly, I'm stumped.

  • "Ipod software is too old" error with ipod nano

I am having a big problem with my ipod nano. I've been working on it for a week and still have not been able to fix it. I can sync my ipod nano to my mac g4 (running OS X 10.3.9) however in the ipod settings it won't show the version of ipod software and the click buttons to restore the ipod or update it are grayed out. When I connect the ipod I get an error message "Some of the items in the itunes library were not copied to your ipod because your ipod software is too old. Go to Summary tab in ipod preferences and update to get the latest software update."
As mentoined, when I do that the update is not available. I have reset the ipod multiple times, restored it, reformatted the disk etc. With the ipod blank, I discovered it does NOT give this error when I connect it to an older imac g3 (go figure) and that it correctly shows the ipod system information and allows me to update it or restore it from itunes (7.0.2). If I then plug the ipod into the G4 it gives the same error message.
The fact that it works and syncs fine with another mac leads me to believe that it's not the ipod, but my system software on the G4 that is corrupted- there must be a settings file that is bad, I just don't know which one it is. Help!!

Is it possible that you have part of an old iTunes still installed on your computer? If so, take a look at the info I pasted below from the following article:Troubleshooting iTunes installation on Mac OS X
It's possible that clicking the iTunes icon in your Dock or double-clicking an iTunes icon on your desktop could open an older version of iTunes. Open iTunes from the Applications folder to be sure you are opening the right version:
    Double-click your hard disk.
    Double-click the Applications folder.
    Double-click the iTunes icon.
If you notice another copy of iTunes in the Dock after following these steps, here's a way to take care of that:
    Quit iTunes.
Drag the iTunes icon out of the Dock.
Drag the iTunes icon from the Applications folder to the Dock.

  • Error copying iTunes store video to iPod. "your iPod software is too old"

I just purchased Coldplay's video "Live from Austin City Limits" on the iTunes Music Store. When I attempt to copy the files to my iPod, I get the following messages:
"Some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPod "IPOD" because your iPod software is too old. Go to the Summary tab in iPod preferences and click Update to get the latest iPod software update."
I have a 30 GB black iPod (bought about 2 months ago) running software version 1.1.1. When I go to the "Update" page in iTunes, I'm told that my software is up to date...
What's wrong? How can my software be both up to date and too old to run the video? (I have other video stored on this iPod as well).
    Thanks

I believe you need 1.2 on the iPod
There are so many threads on the board about these issues I don't remember where I read it, but there is a solution that involves deleting an ipod file which forces the thing to reinstall it.
I myself had a long nightmare of a time trying to update my 60g to 1.2 but I finally got it to work by doing it on my laptop.

  • IPod software is too old?

When I try to sync my iPod, I get this warning message:
Some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPod because your iPod software is too old. Go to the Summary Tab in iPod preferences and click Update to get the latest iPod software update.
The Update button it mentions is blurred out. I can't select it. Next to it is "Your iPod is up to date." I went to download the latest iTunes, but it was already up to date as well (7.0.2.16). I guess I can't download the iPod software by itself anymore. I though about doing the ipod Restore, but that button is fuzzed out too. I can't click it.
There's a couple CDs I bought through iTunes that got yanked from my iPod and won't donwload because of this even though they are still in iTunes. Can someone help please?

I think I sort of solved this.
It seems the two cds that I purchased through itunes were the culprit. They were the songs that weren't copying to my ipod. So I backed them up, used itunes to burn them to a cd, deleted the original songs out of itunes, and then ripped the cds back into itunes. This, in effect, removes the copyright protection from them. (Don't worry, I'm not going to share them!)
I then synced my ipod once or twice and (wouldn't you know it) I got a message that there was an update to my ipod software. Go figure. I had it install the update and now things seem to be back in order again.
Apparently having those purchased songs somehow prevented the new update from being found, but it was also the new songs that needed the update so they could sync properly. When I got rid of them, the update happened.
Only problem is I still have some songs where the album artwork won't download to the ipod, but I can deal with that.

  • "iPod Software is too old" - but update not available

    ITunes v5.0.1
    iPod - v2.3
Attempting to synch between iPod and computer, message:
"You will not be able to copy songs purchased from the ...because your iPod software is too old...get the latest...."
I get the 'latest' (which afaik i already have) and it will not install, package choices are greyed out.
    Help?

I found the solution on the discussion board at macosxhints.com.
You need to launch the iPod updater from inside the updater folder.
Open Applications>Utilities>iPod Software Updater (I had several folders called "iPod Software Updater" with version numbers in it, choose the one without any numbers. The modified date should be the most recent too.) Select the most recent updater in that folder (should be "iPod Updater 2005-09-23"). Double-click on it.
Ignore the screen that pops up with all of the pictures of the iPod models, and click "update" on the other window. Presto.
