Hey, Thanks a lot. It took quite a bit of time to resurrect this ipod. I tried the upgrade again, but still would not recognize my ipod. So I went to the next step and reset my ipod, wiping of all of the information like it was new. This helped my laptop see the ipod on itunes, but did not sync. So, I deleted the itunes off my computer completely, restarted and then reinstalled the newest itunes, and then restarted. Finally, it recognized my ipod and started to download each song. It took awhile as there was 602 songs, but finally it works. Yea!!! I never had any problem with my old nano, but this touch has been another animal for sure. Thank you again and also the community for information. This was a helpful forum and will recommend to others if they get stuck with their ipod or iphone. Take care, Karen

i just had my iphone turned back on today because i damaged the phone i had. So i connected my phone to my computer and it said my phone had to do a restore, and it did, but it whipped everthing from my phone, my pictures and everything. It tells me to now to connect to itunes and it gives me a error saying it does not recognize my phone.

Recently got a new ipod. When connected to the computer, this message appears. "An ipod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and re-the ipod and then try again". "If the problem persists, uninstall itunes and install itunes again".

Windows says it does not recognize my ipod HELP please
Had ipod for 3 days. Worked fine. Last time I docked it, gave me an error message saying it was not recognized becuase it was malfuctioning. Reset, restored, re booted, reinstalled itunes, deleted apple auto update, changed ports, you name it. So I took it back to the store and plugged it into a PC and a mac, using my cable, and it works fine. My other usb devices working fine. I tried a windows restore to when it was working, and for some reason I get another message saying that it cannot be restored (never had that happen before......). Any new ideas would be appreciated. PC clone Pentium 4 3.x Windows XP ProI fixed mine. right click my computer>properties>hardware tab >device manager. The I went down to usb controller and clicked the plus sign. there was listed 3 usb something controllers or hubs. Right click and choose disable on them one at a time and see what happens. My ipod was instantly recognized. when i went back and enabled what i had disabled, it was no longer recognized. I have no idea why it worked for me but it did. Try it at your own risk. Good luck!

I downloaded the latest version of itunes. I am now getting the message that my ipod is in recovery and needs to be restored. When I click to restore, it says it does not recognize this device. Now my ipod is frozen with an image of a cord and an arrow pointing toward the itunes icon. All was working fine before the download!
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

to administrator/services/apple moble device and stop/start service nothing. Device manager shows the drivers are installed.

I have Mac itunes and a touch 2G. My wife has Win7 and touch 4G (both iOS 4.2.1). She got a new iphone, I now have her touch 4G, and am trying to sync it to my Mac itunes. The music and videos sync to the 4G, but apps & podcast will not. All are checked to sync. During sync, it gets to "determining apps to sync" then immediately goes to "finished syncing". No apps or podcasts from my Mac itunes are on the touch 4G.
You can only sync to one iTunes library but you can manage music and videos among different computer/libraries.
It appears that you are trying to sync with a different library.
- If you want to make the Mac you syncing computer:
--- Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by:

--- Restore the iPod from that backup. Note that synced media like apps and music are not in included in the backup. -

I have a MacBook Pro Retina with the latest version of iTunes installed on it and an iPod Nano Gen. 4. The problem that I have is as follows: My Mac does recognize my iPod but just as storage device. iTunes does open when I plug in my iPod but I cannot find any iPod icon on iTunes and therefore cannot upload anything to the iPod via iTunes.
I have performed a reset procedure on the iPod, restarted my Mac, and tried out different USB cables and ports but iTunes still does not recognize my iPod.

my Iphone 5s was working perfectly before downloading the IOS 8.0.1 and later IOS 8.0.2. When my Iphone run out of battery, I connected it to Itunes, however the phone never turned on, and kept trying to sync, however got an itunes failure message.

itunes does not recognize my ipod nano 6, it is a used one and has 1600 plus songs, it shows the songs, but won't let me do anything with them
I had this exact problem. I had to plug the iPod into a USB port on the back of the computer tower not the fron ones. Hope this helps.
