No, if you were planning to have the AirPort Time Capsule connect wirelessly and extend the Asus WiFi signal, since it would not be compatible with another manufacturer's router for that purpose.
Another way of saying the same thing here would be that if you want to extend the network wirelessly, it will take two Apple routers to do so

Actually, one more: I would like to connect my HP laptop as well. I have heard this is not simple, but possible.You can create a wifi network with your TC, and you can join this network with your iPad. However, your printer does not support the AirPrint protocol, so you will not be able to print from your iPad, unless you load additional software.
These are the steps:
1. (You may have completed this step already) Set up your TC to create a wireless network. You can do this from AirPort Utility on your Mac or from the AirPort Utility App on your iPad (free download from the App Store).
2. From your iPad, go to settings / wifi and join the network.
3. Download the Canon iPhone App from the App store on your iPad
4. You can now print photos from your iPad to your Canon printer.
If you want full functionality, (not just photos), there is software for your Mac that makes your printer available to your iPad through AirPrint (Printopia). The downside is, you have to purchase it, and you have to have your Mac running when you want to print from your iPad.

How do you set up the airport + time capsule to a win XP and 7 machines?
All my Apple products can connect just fine but none of my windows machines can access wirelessly. I tried different downloads but none of them seem to work any way for me to rectify this?
For those who are running Windows and controlling the Airport Base Station with Airport for Windows. Apple just came out with a firmware update for Airport Extreme (7.7.2). It so happens that this Firmware version requires Airport Software version 6.3 or newer. The Windows version only goes as high as Version 5.6 or so. I was also told that Apple is unlikely to upgrade this software. To make a long story short you need to control (Configure) your Airport Base Station with an iMac, or an iPhone or iPad with the Airport app. This solved my problems. Good Luck :)

Ok so i am planning on getting the AirPort + Time Capsule in a few weeks, and i have seen many peole talk about how there is a right way and wrong way to set it up because apperently the bad way makes it run slow? Well i have two questions, one is how do i set it up the right way to use it to the full potential to use the new beamforming feature? And my second question which is kind of a problem is that I have internet already but my other brothers use it and i told them about pitching in buy it and they dont want to because they think its pointlesss, so what i want to know is if I can connect it to my existing wi-fi but at the same time like create a diffrent network so that only i can use it? (ex. have my wifi, 2WIRE123 for example, and then some how connect the ethernet cable to the airport + time caplsule and create a new network like 2WIRE124 so they would both basiaclly be using the same internet connection but separated to 2 diffrent networks?) If you can connect the AirPort to the 2Wire router using a permanent wired Ethernet connection, then you can configure the AirPort to create a new wireless network with its own wireless network name and password. -

My girlfriend and I want to buy Macbooks. A Macbook Pro 128 GB and a Macbook Air 128 GB. 128GB each is not enough for our needs and are also interested in buying an Airport Time Capsule with 2 TB rather than upgrading to 256GB/512GB, which is more money for less storage space.
My question is, can we use the Airport Time Capsule as a wireless router AND as a wireless hard drive?
Will I be able to keep the Time Capsule at home working as a wireless router for my girlfriend to surf the web and at the same, if I am at the library, as a wireless hard drive via internet so I can download the files i need?
If the network is down I would like to be able to use it via cable as a wired hard drive. Is that possible?

Yes. The Time Capsule has a built-in hard drive and you can add additional USB hard drives (via a USB hub) to its USB port. All of these drives can be shared out and will appear in the Finder as network drives.

Apple do not recommend having the iphoto library (same applies to Aperture) on network drive.

It's recommended that you store your iPhoto library on a locally mounted hard drive. Storing your iPhoto library on a network share can lead to poor performance, data corruption, or data loss.
You cannot use TC as external drive it is now and forevermore a network drive.
There are also backup issues.. since Time Machine cannot backup files on a network drive.. nor can TC back itself up.
It is much better to use an actual external hard disk. -
Xfinity WiFi Router AirPort Time Capsule....help??
I just upgraded my home internet and Xfinity sent me a new modem. It turned out to be a modem/router. After installing it, I set it up exactly how my previous router was so that it cooperated with my AirPort Time Capsule (phone line & cable > Xfinity router/modem > Airport Time Capsule (plugged into the first Ethernet port)). At first, I was getting an internet signal from my AirPort network even though it was blinking orange. AirPort Utility then popped up and told me I needed to switch it to "bridge mode" (I think that's what it was) so I did. I got a soild green light after that.
So now I have two WiFi networks broadcasting in my house...the Xfinity modem/router is putting out its own network, and then my AirPort Time Capsule is putting out another, which is the same original network that I had always used.
I feel like this is somehow not the most efficient way to set this up. I also want to make sure I'm getting the fastest signal possible and it isn't being cut in half because of the two networks or something like that...I know I could just get rid of the AirPort Time Capsule altogether and connect to the Xfinity modem, but I want to keep the AirPort to access files saved on it, use it for Time Machine, etc.
Any help? I'm thinking that I'm missing a step somewhere...You are not connected to an ISP.. you are connected to a building shared internet.. this is private IP address and there is no way for you to access it remotely.
You must buy internet services, cable, adsl, even wireless of some sort,, that will give you a routable public IP. -
Problem setting up an AirPort Time Capsule
I am trying to link a new AirPort Time Capsule (2TB) to my iMac and MacBook Pro.
While the machines 'recognise' the AirPort, neither can connect to it as the AirPort is not connecting to the WiFi.
Do I need to link the AirPort to the modem directly (by ethernet cable) to set it up initially?
If yes, can I then disconnect the AirPort form the modem and move it to another room where I want to use it?

The Time Capsule needs to stay connected to the modem using an Ethernet cable at all times. Please refer to the illustration in your Setup Guide for the Time Capsule.
Ethernet cabling can be run 330 feet, or 100 meters, with virtually no signal loss, so you should be able to locate the Time Capsule just about anywhere that you want. -
Airport Time Capsule keeps turning off light
My Airport time capsule 2gig (2013) model keeps turning off like every 30 mins. I need to unplug and plug it over again to turn on the time capsule.
I connect my airport time capsule to my macbook pro 15inch retina display using the thunderbolt. I'm using osX maverick 10.9.1
while watching youtube I notice that the video stop. then I notice that my airport time capsule has no green light and need to turn it on again to get that green light.
What should I do? Please help!
FYI - I always check my airport utility and there is no updates pending or error warning sign.The TC is faulty.. return ASAP for replacement.

Okay folks, I need your help out there.
So the nerdy side of me went and picked up the XBOX ONE on release day. Its awesome by the way, BUT..... I cant seem to connect to most xbox live games and absolutely ZERO parties. At first I just thought it was something to do with the xbox itself and would eventually fix itself, but i was wrong. After looking into it on microsoft, i found out that it had to do with my NAT settings on the airport itself. I guess apple and xbox are not compatiable for xbox live and it makes it difficult to have an open NAT setting and is a huge PAIN.
I was able to pinpoint one that the airport time capsule was blocking the IPV6 something or another. Anyways, I unblocked that, and reset the modem and time capsule and jumped on the xbox and now have open NAT settings but still cant connect to multi-player.
Upon further searching, i was told to uncheck the UPNP on my time capsule as well, but have no idea how to find that.
I know it seems confusing, but thats the best i can describe it.
tthanks allBe a long long time before I see an Xbox One.. but whoever told you to uncheck the upnp in the TC.. tell them their dreamin' .. upnp is not support by Apple in any computer or router, never has been.. Apple deliberately wrote their own version called NAT-PMP to do the same thing.. dynamically open ports at the request of an application or client computer.
So there is nothing like that to uncheck.. and as a matter of interest.. there no box to check or uncheck for NAT-PMP either.. since apple do not believe in end user adjustment of settings.. they simply do not exist.
You will have to manually forward all ports required by the Xbox via the TC. For multi-player games you probably need to open more ports than the standard to allow just xbox live. You will need to check the ports required and open them.
OR
Buy a standard vista UPNP compatible router.. and use that.. and simply put the TC in bridge in the network.
I have not seen posts yet about xbox one.. but there are plenty about xbox and ps3 and the fact that Apple really doesn't give a hoot about games consoles.

I want to boost the Wi-Fi signal around my house. I have a 3TB Airport Time Capsule connected to my Virgin Media modem via a WLAN connection but wonder if an Airport Express device can be used at a remote location purely wirelessly - apart from a power connection obviously?
Does AirPort Express require a wired connection.......if I already have a wired AirPort Time Capsule on the Network?
No, but you will have much better network performance if you do wire the AirPort Express.
The reason for this is that when you try to extend a network using wireless, you will typically lose about a half of the potential speed capability on the network.
There is no network speed loss when you wire the Express.
Here is what Apple's support document says about this:
In the case of a wirelessly extended network, throughput may be reduced to less than 60 percent of that of a single device. The general rule is to keep the Wi-Fi network as simple as possible. You can accomplish this by using the minimum number of Wi-Fi base stations required to service the physical network area and by using Ethernet wherever possible.
Extending the range of your Wi-Fi network by connecting Wi-Fi base stations together using Ethernet is always the best option, and will provide the best throughput -

I just brought home a mac book pro 13" with retina and the airport time capsule . What one should I turn on/ hook up first? We have an existing router in the home and an old PC.
Suggestions?Turn off you cable/DSL modem, your computer, and the old router. Disconnect the computer's Ethernet cable from the old router. Replace the old router with the Time Capsule. Connect the Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port on the Time Capsule. Connect the computer's Ethernet port to one of the LAN ports on the Time Capsule using an Ethernet cable.
Turn on the modem and wait until the status lights indicate connection with the ISP. Turn on the Time Capsule and wait for the amber light to begin flashing. Open Airport Utility in your Utilities folder to configure the Time Capsule.
If a user guide came with the Time Capsule I suggest you follow it's instructions. -
I keep getting 'an unexpected error occurred. Try again.' error message when trying to reconnect to my AirPort Time Capsule. I have soft and hard reset and, eventually, factory reset the device. What do I do to correct the error?

1. Because it is either the same IP as the new one or hidden by being plugged in as a second router.
To access it, isolate one computer from the existing network and plug it directly by ethernet to a lan port of the TC. Use the erase function in the TC to remove all the content of the hard disk.
Then go to the internet tab, connection sharing and select off bridged. You can then reconnect the TC to the network.. and the computer as well. The TC will act as bridged device.. getting IP from the main router and should then appear correctly in Airport utility.
2. I covered in 1. But you just go in airport utility manual setup. disk, and you will see the erase function. You can also set it to bridge and leave the erase until you put it back in the network.. but be careful you erase the right one.
3. You can use the old TC via wired or wireless.. although I would always stick to wired connection if possible. Speed on wireless is 10x worse than wired.
Also note the reliability goes down dramatically after 2 years.. a series 1 3 years old or more is ebay fodder unless you want to repair it. Do not trust vital data to it.. when it dies you will have issues recovering it.
4. Yes, all apple routers will function as wireless extenders. when you do that the ethernet ports turn off so it becomes a purely wireless device.. strange apple decision on what you want to use your TC for.
