My macbook pro keeps saying I have 450 gigabytes out of 500 that are used. But when I look on finder there are no files that are anywhere close to that amount. I went through and deleted files from my mac and now I only have 10 gigabytes of additional space free. My mac now says I have 440 gigs of other that is used. I have photos on a cd which I'm trying to open . If I click on them I can see the picture in the preview, but when I double click it doesn't recognise the picture. They are all in .jpg format. Tried copying them but it said some data cannot be read. The files exist but I just can't seem to view them
Select one and hit the Space bar to view it in QuickLook. Use the forward arrow keys to move from file to file. If the file can't be viewed in the QuickLook mode then the file is damaged and probably can't be copied or moved.
You could try a photo file recovery application like MediaRECOVER which can scan the memory card and tell you what files, if any, can be recovered before you have to purchase it.

I am unable to play videos in iPhoto that I took on my iPhone. They are in .mov format, but when I double click on them, per the help instructions, nothing happens.
You can't play movies in iPhoto. But, you can in quicktime, which is installed along with the OS. Just double click on the .mov file and quicktme should start.

I can download yosemite but then it will not install? I am stuck with the icon on the dock with the downward arrow in it but when I double click on it or try to open it nothing happens. Thanks.

I can't view pictures to attach to an email or upload to facebook it's just blank or shows an exclamation mark for each picture. I can see them in "recent" but if I double click on a picture to enlarge it it's just an exclamation mark again. What is wrong and how do I fix it?

1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption. -
I have lots of iPhone contacts but only have one contact that when I send them an iMessage it sends as a text message instead how do I fix or is it on there end?
You both have to have iMessages turned on, you both have to be on iOS 5.0 or higher and you both have to be on an official carrier
oh and you both have to be on 3G or wifi
if one of you doesnt have 3G or wifi at the time then it will send as a text message
I don't have a 3G data plan so my iMessages only send over wifi, and when an iphone is asleep the wifi turns off so I receive iMessages as text messages, but when my wifi is connected it works perfectly -
I completed the migration of my music an dphotos files from a PC to my new imac. Both transferred initally and I even synced my ipad with the imac thereby transferring most of the music to my ipad. However now itunes says the music isn't available because it can't find the original music files. How can i find the original files? I am getting the same error on my pc too.
They aren't in your user Music folder? Have You tried Spotlight?

Apple moved my Outlook from my PC over to the MAC and it is now on my desktop but I cannot open it. I click on the folder and when opened it has two folders, one for each of my email accounts and when I click on the one I want, it just makes a new email to be sent. I even dragged it to the download folder and that did not good.
It will also ask me to use another program to open it. I click on Mail and again it makes another email. HELP!!! I have tons of emails that I need to keep tract of my work. Any help would be wonderful.

I have firfox installed on computer but when i double click on it it does not open or does not load

Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.

I am trying to change web browser from internet explorer to firefox, I have downloaded firefox but I am not able to use the icon . Nothing happens when I click on to use it. please help.
In case you haven't solved this by now...
Sometimes your security software will block new programs from accessing the internet. Are you getting any alerts along those lines?
Sometimes Firefox will stall during startup and never display its window. In that case, you may need to manually "kill" the firefox.exe process using the Windows Task Manager before trying to start Firefox again.
You can display the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Esc. Windows 8.1 has a different display than Windows 7, so I have to go by memory. If you see a tab named Applications, check that one first. Then check Processes, and finally check Details. If you find Firefox or firefox.exe on any of those tabs, select it and End Process (or other action to shut it down).
After you are done with the Task Manager, try starting Firefox up again.

I use to refresh my browser & web pages by clicking on the "refresh" button. This button is no longer on my browser. how can I refresh a web page or keep it up to date if there is no refresh icon to use.?
Firefox 4 and later use a combined Stop/Reload/Go button that is positioned at the right end of the location bar.<br />
During the page load process it shows as a Stop button and after the loading has finished the button is changed to a Reload button.<br />
If you type in the location bar then that button becomes a Go button.<br />

so i connected my ipod shuffle to my apple computer and the status light on my ipod shuffle shows that it is charging but when i look for it on the pc dock or in itunes it doesn't show it at all.... so what do I do???
If you have not already, I would shut down (power off) your computer. Do this to Reset your shuffle

I have downloaded pictures to iphoto from my Canon Rebel XTI. I can not email or move any pictures that are vertical. Also, if I double click on the photo to enlarge it, the screen flills with a big exclamation mark. I need to email these photos out. HELP! Also if I do a slide show with the album, those pictures do not show up.
