I have a Buffalo MiniStation HD-PCFU3 used as a TM backup disk

i have a Buffalo MiniStation HD-PCFU3 used as a TM backup disk & is encrypted. it got full during the last backup & i received an alert that it will deleted the oldest one. after the delete, i'm not able to mount the drive anymore. osx 10.9.1. is there a way to recover my files from hard disk?

You don't have many options here..
Try the drive on another computer.. You clearly have to get the disk to mount for it to be checked.
If you can get it to mount, then run a repair via disk utility.. if that doesn't fix it or you cannot mount it then there is no way to get around that to fix it. Using encrypted backup means even a data recovery centre can do nothing.. the end result will be garbage.

To be completely accurate, you cannot exclude the Time Capsule from your network, if you want to use it for anything at all. It does not have to serve as a wireless access point or your router but it does have to be available to your network.
You should also connect your Time Capsule using Ethernet for the same reason - it is faster.

I can not remember my passcode and do not have icloud installed, can i still use my laptop to backup up my files before resetting my phone?

hey thanks for your help, so now the phone is asking to be reconfigured , i am not picking up my wifi on the phone so im using the itunes on the laptop but having tried a couple times the only message i see it: Sorry we are unable to contiune with your activation at this time" on the itunes page. I'm in haiti but i dont c that as an option when selecting country or region on the phone so i have selected Jamaica as that is where i am from although the phone was a gift and im not sure where it was bought as the person died. Could this be a reason y i see the message on itunes?????

Pull out the power cord from the TC..
Count to 10..
Push in the power cord to the TC.
The is a restart or reboot without a power switch. That is all the TC needs.

Warning: Don't use Time Machine to backup disk containing existing TM backup files

I ran into a problem while starting a clean TM backup on a new hard drive. I found the solution on this board and wanted to do a clean post of it in case it might help someone else.
A few months ago, I had got a new external to put my Aperture referenced masters on. When I first hooked up the drive, IIRC, I got a message from Time Machine asking me if I wanted to use that drive as a TM backup drive. I didn't have a proper backup plan in place so I said "Sure why not" and never thought any more about it. So that drive contained the TM backups as well as a lot of Aperture files.
Fast forward to now when I decide to do a proper backup plan including a new drive just for TM. So last night, I hook up this new drive and tell TM to use it to backup my iMac as well as that previous external. But I specify in the preferences that I want to exclude the old Backups.backupdb folder of course. Great. I go to bed expecting to find everything backed up the next morning.
Uhhhh... not! This morning, the TM preference window is still spinning on "Excluding items" and it is currently at 35 millions! (That millions with an "m"). ??? So I did a search on this board and found this thread:

in which another user had a similar problem and, after fishing around a bit, Pondini discovered that this old Backups.backupdb folder was the source of the problem.
So I stopped TM, and this time I told it to exclude the whole original external drive. TM immediately started doing a proper backup which only took a few hours.
The one thing I wanted to point out is that even though Pondini suggested Excluding the old Backup.db folder, this apparently is not enough. Because when you do that, it wants to go in there and exclude every little file one by one and for god knows what reason, there is a huge number of these buggers.
So it looks like if you have an external that contains an old TM backup, you have to copy the other files (the ones you want to keep) somewhere else, erase the drive and put those files back on it before you can do a TM backup of it.

I have gone into the options and I can see my external drives there, but for some reason I can't remove them from the exclusion list. I can add and remove the Laptop HD from this list, but for some reason the "-" button becomes disabled whenever I select the external Hard Drives.
Is there a reason for this? I've been using both drives for a while, so they are both Mac formatted.

I've been using TM for a while now and have moved country since I first started using it. I originally have a disk to back everything up but couldn't take it with me initially when I moved... so I bought another disk when I got to my new place and started another TM session from scratch... now I have all my old gear back I want to use the old disk again to back up to as well as the newer one... I know this could get a little complicated knowing which one was backed up when...
Anyway, I want to use one at home and one at the office (just in case I get robbed or whatever)... what do I need to know before I plug my old BU disk in? I'm just afraid it might do something weird to my very old data...

As Dan says, that will work fine in most cases. All you have to do is tell TM via +Change Disk.+ You'll have two separate, independent sets of backups.
But, if you go several days (at least 10) and have a large volume of changes between "swaps," TM may do a full backup instead of an incremental one. That's probably what happened to Dan, and isn't a problem if your TM disk is big enough, and you do not have the +Warn when old backups are deleted+ box checked in TM Preferences > Options.

Macbook air stopped detecting Buffalo Ministation

I bought a Buffalo Ministation HD-PZ and start using it with my Macbook Air, and it was working fine.
Months after that, my macbook air doesn't recognise the Buffalo HDD anymore.
I plugged the same Buffalo hard drive to another mac (snow leopard) and it was working fine - the files are visible.
I plugged a Hitachi hard drive to my Macbook Air and it is working fine.
Can anybody help why my macbook air can't recognize my Buffalo HDD? I'm a tad confused.

Its likely the buffalo HD (the HD inside is made by Western Digital) power on the SATA card is going bad.
Recently Buffalo has been using WD 'green' hard drives, notoriously a bit unreliable.
Buffalo external HD are a tad infamous for having power issues.
Thats why your other Mac is powering it fine, but your AIr isnt. Ive seen this often on many external HD, works fine on one mac, but not another.
If there is just enough power drain overage as the spindle wears a bit and is drawing more power, the SATA card causes the drive to not appear in a Mac, but with enough power in a powered HD dock, or another Mac it works fine. Seems a tad odd, but is perfectly logical.
backup all data from that HD to another HD. HD are cheap these days, a quality 1TB Toshiba / Hitachi USB is only $65

Contacts are designed to be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service.
Pictures taken with the device are designed to regularly be copied off the device to a computer as would be done with any digital camera.
If you have failed to use the device as designed it may be too late to recovery anything.
Is the device regularly backed up to a computer via iTunes? If so, the most recent backup (when restored to a replacement iOS device) should contain all contacts and pictures as of when the backup was created.

Looks bad. I would strongly advise backing up the stuff on the other two partitions as soon as possible in case the rest of the drive goes wrong.
Beyond that, Disk Utility has limited abilities to repair disks, DiskWarrior uses a different approach and might, emphasis might be more successful. It has certainly done the job for me in the past when Disk Utility could not.
