When i go to my application folder several of the apps have a circle wih a slash .
what does this mean? However everything opens fine. its for address book, ichat  and ical.
its been like this since the last time i formated .

I don't think i  migrated anything over, i had a bit of trouble restoring my accoun from a backup and never actually did.
My time mechine backups are currently on a hard drive adn the only way to access the data is to run StellarPhonixMacDataRecovery every time to accesss my data.
But thats an entirely other problem/ storey.
So if i press commmand R when it starts do i need my Mac OX Disc becuse i baught the newest version on MAC OX X from the app store.
The funny thing is , even tho there is a cirlce with a slash all the applictions in question that has this works fine like ical and address book,  iuse them all the time.

My Ipod Classic shows a red circle with a cross in the middle. I've completed diagnostic tests which have popped up, however any HP/FW/Hard Drive tests freeze the ipod, as if the hard drive won't spin. What do I do?
After holding down the Select and Play/Pause button, I was able to restart the Ipod and then it brought me to a Diagnositc test. I have tried doing both the Mannual and Annual test on the ipod however in each test, the ipod freezes on different access tests. The HP (headphones) test, shows the headphones are detected, but then if it tries to play a song to make sure they work it freezes and goes back to the red cross. I have looked at various other questions regarding the FW cable, however I don't believe i have such a cabel. Then the Hard Drive test freezes up and I can hear a ticking noise coming from the drive but it doesnt seem to be spinning. Alongside these test issues, any computer cannot see the Ipod when plugged in (including itunes). Therefore some tests for the USB drive cannot be completed. I do not recall dropping it badly, though I have dropped it previously. Does all this mean there is damage to the drive? Should I instead take it to an apple store?
    Many Thanks

The stats look fine. Try the DFU Restore method shown in Corrupt iPod classic. It may pay to disable any anti-virus software and use the staged transfer method to reload data, assuming you get that far.

  • HD not booting. Circle with a cross through it

    Hi Everyone.
I was getting an issue with system prefs and opted to restart my MBP.
After the start up sound, for a split second it showed the Apple logo followed by a circle with a cross through it.
Then it proceeded to boot up on my BootCamp windows partition. So I know the HD is working.
So, I started up the MBP with an external firewire drive that had an older complete copy of my drive from my OEM 500GB HD before my upgrade to a new 1TB drive. Then I ran Disk Utilities, verified that the Drive was OK, ran repair disk permissions and then did a Directory reconstruction with DiskWarrior. I hoped that all of the above would fix the problem. Alas, it is still not booting up from the 1TB drive.
With the external boot, I can see everything on the internal drive ok. I thought it may have been a resource fork, but I don't know now.
Anyone have any suggestions of what else I should look for?
My last resort will be to wipe the drive and rebuild from Time Machine, but a month has passed since my last back up ( so some stuff may be missed out).

If you want to see if you can recover data, see my FAQ*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html#RECOVER
The fact that Disk Warrior can't fix the system folder, means there is serious file corruption, which may be as a result of all the issues with your System Preferences.
If you were using any other system optimization software, any that clean system caches should be avoided.  They can make System Preferences and the rest of the system misbehave because corrupted system cache files can make applications have a hard time starting up.

  • What does the red circle with a line thru it mean?

I'm exhausted! Trying to find an answer to WHY iTunes won't allow me to drag a song to my iPod Nano?  It was originally an MP3; I unzipped the file; I played it in iTunes song list; it had a ! next to it; iTunes asked if it should find the file; iT found the file; the ! was removed; I played it again in iT; when I tried to drag it to my iPod, THERE WAS A RED CIRCLE WITH A LINE THRU IT????  I have yet to find--i googled and youtubed and appled til my eyes and brain and fingers ached and burned ;(--what the SYMBOL means?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
I have been able to download similar audio of this nature...Not sure why this one is BLOCKED?
    Thank you!

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
From your description "little circle with a line in it", that sound like a symbol when you are trying to do a cannot do operation.
What exactly are you doing in your edit activities when you see this circle with a line in it? Is it at the end of the mouse cursor?
Can you post a screenshot of it?
If my first impression of what this is happens to be correct, then "How do I get rid of it?" answer comes from
    a. defining what you want to do
    and
    b. correcting any mis-steps you are taking in doing that
We will be watching for your follow up.
    Thanks.

Try to restore the iPod. Here's an article that provides troubleshooting for it.

If that doesn't work visit an Apple Store and see if they can replace it.

All of a sudden my computer will not boot up and a circle with a line thru it comes up.  What is the problem and what can I do to fix it?

    Hi, master hunter.
The most common meaning of this symbol is that something in the operating system is damaged.  Here is the best resource when troubleshooting this behavior.

Mac book pro stops responding after Maverick OS restart. Currently have a circle with a line through it after 20+ hours. Tried to shut it down and use the Time Machine to restore but no response. How can I restore with Time Machine if it will not start?

    sonjadg,
you can purchase a replacement pair of grey installation DVDs for your MacBook Pro from either Apple or iFixit. If Startup Manager is only showing an OS X Installer volume, then it sounds like the Mavericks installer had a problem midway through its installation process. To fix this, you’re going to need to erase your internal disk and reïnstall your original version of OS X from the grey Mac OS X Install DVD, use Software Update  to get it back to 10.6.8 (presuming that your MacBook Pro originally came with Snow Leopard), and then restore from Time Machine.

  • Why does my screen have a circle with contact name

why does my screen have a circle with contact name

it might be the recents feature showing up on the home screen, this can be switched off.Once you’ve completed the upgrade to iOS 8, head to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Scroll down until you see the Contacts section and tap on Show In App Switcher. Here you’ll see the options for displaying contacts in the app switcher screen: your iPhone favorites, your recent contacts, or both. Note that if you enable both favorites and recent contacts, your favorites will be displayed first, and you’ll have to scroll to the right to see your recent contacts.

Since Nov update about a third of my songs have a circle with an exclamation mark inside the circle. These songs will not play on my computer. Message says  "The song .... could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"  I have reloaded these back onto itunes with my own CD collection. They work for a short while, then the same thing happens. I don't  know what is causing this or how to fix it.

I finally resolved my problem after spending way too much time on it. I simply handed my 160GB iPod to my husband to put his fav Stones & Beatles songs on and I went back to my 80GB Microsoft Zune which has never disappointed me.
After spending so much time trying to figure this out I did finally take it back to Apple Store who performed a diagnostic and found there was a problem with the device. They replaced it with a refurbished one which has similar issues. All I wanted to do was listen to my music. Was that too much to ask? So I am happy to be free of this problematic device. No more Apple for me!!

Drag the folders to the external drive, and if prompted, click Authenticate. You'll probably be asked for an administrator password.
