I have a DVD stuck, drive is missing also.

Hi There,
Not only have I managed to get a windows made DVD stuck in my internal drive, the drive icon is missing also. i did a brief search around to find ways of removing it,
* press the eject key (duh)
* hold down left mouse (track pad) and cycyle power (duh)
* seems to me these won't work if lion doesn't acknowledge the drive lives eh?
Maybe I'm a PC after all.
It worked fine yesterday. Just put in this old D9 I had found and
At least if I try to put another disk in there it won't load, so I'm 99% ertain it's stuck.
* also tried holding command  key + eject
Bright ideas anyone?
Advance thanks.

Hi ormerlypcguy:
Sometimes the best solutions are the manual ones.  There is a mechanical fail safe built in to these devices,  I have had to use this method several times myself, so ....
.....   Try this:
1) Power off your mac pro.
2) With your finger, pull down the metal bezel on the affected drive.
3) You should now see the front plastic bezel on the affected drive, it is usually black or grey.
4) Look for a small pinhole somewhere on the front. It will have a very small diameter, about 0.5mm.
5) Yes it's there, all cd/dvd drives have one!   Note: a small flashlight comes in handy here.
6) Straighten out a standard paperclip for about 2 -3 inches.
7) Insert the paperclip in the small hole and push, you will have some resistance, and then the drive tray will slowly push out about 0.5 inches or more.
8) Grab the tray and pull it out !!
9) You are done!
10) If you do this gently you won't hurt the drive. Boot up and the tray should automatically slide back in. You are good to go.

Boot with the option key down.  You will see a window showing all the bootable systems.  Select the OSX boot and hit return.  Once you are booted into OSX, use the Startup Disk system preferences to change your default boot volume.

hey guys, so I have a DVD stuck in the CD drive on my mac. It reads it as being in there, but I cannot eject it and it is causing my a lot of issues with my mac. If i try to eject it, Finder acts up and I have issues saving projects or even browsing files. I feel like it interferes with iPhoto as well because it says it is locked and I have no rights to view it. I wanted to see if anyone else had/s this issue and how you fixed it before lugging it into the apple store and being without a computer for a few weeks...

  • DVD stuck, drive not recognized in system profiler, can't eject, HELP!

I am distraught, my DVD/CD drive is quite sick, if not dead. Alright, I watch DVDs on my computer somewhat regularly, but this one time I was about an hour into a movie when it just stopped playing. I couldn't finish the movie because now my computer doesn't recognize the disc or even the fact that it has a DVD/CD drive at all. The DVD doesn't appear on the desktop and the eject button doesn't do anything, it's been stuck my drive for maybe a month or so and I forgot about it for a while actually.
The scariest thing is that when I check my system profiler I can't find any info about my DVD drive. When I click on disc burning, it says I dont have a disc burning device installed.
I've tried resetting the power manager (PMU) but to no avail. I would really like to solve this without taking my computer somewhere.
    Any suggestions?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Simple step first. If the "stuck" is due to a software problem, restart the computer holding down the click pad through the start-up until the disk ejects. This usually ejects anything in the drive.
You'll find other suggestions here (Donald Worrell post).
If none of the above suggestion work, you'll need to get a technician (Apple certified, if still under warranty) to look at the machine. If the DVD ejects, but the profiler still does not recognize the drive, then a trip to the Technician is your only recourse.

  • I have a DVD stuck in the drive, how can i get it out

how can i get a disc that is stuck in my drive out?

Restart. Hold down the mouse or trackpad button at the chime until the disc ejects. If that doesn't work, it's physically stuck.

  • DVD stuck in disc drive

    Hi everybody,
I currently have a DVD stuck in my disc drive. I fell asleep yesterday night watching the DVD using the "DVD Player" application that is the default for playing a DVD. When I woke up, DVD Player wouldn't quit and I had to force quit the program. I didn't use the DVD Player for the rest of the day, but in the evening, I tried to reopen DVD Player to finish the DVD. It said: "There was an initialization error. A valid DVD drive could not be found. [-70012]" I tried to eject the disc by pressing the "eject" button on the keyboard, but that did absolutely nothing. Now the DVD is stuck in the drive, not showing up on my computer, and I am not able to eject it. What can I do to get it out?
    Thanks
    -Marsha

Apart from the fact that you would need to use the mouse button, rather than the MBP's trackpad button, no, it shouldn't make any difference. Try shutting down the Mac (rather than restarting), then booting it up again while holding down the primary mouse button.
Another trick is to start up Disk Utility and , if the disc is visible, eject it from there.
Sometimes, if the problem is actually due to the drive itself not being recognised as present, a "PRAM reset" will make it appear again.
On PowerPc Macs you can achieve the same result using "open firmware" commands, but unfortunately these don't work with the Intel models.
    Cheers
    Rod

Download it from here, use the code you already bought to activate it.

  • ITunes 7.3.1 under VISTA causes DVD/CD driver conflicts or blockage !!!!!!!

After installing iTunes under VISTA I noticed that both of my DVD/CD drives were missing. Device manager shows a conflict or blockage causing the drivers not to start.
I tried iTunes 7.3.1 on another PC with VISTA and it did the same thing. I had to remove iTunes since it basically disables by DVD and CD drives. Any ideas?

Actually everything is working just fine after I had
uninstalled iTunes 7.3.1. Oh, I didn't have error
code 31 but just for your information it was 10.
Please don't give bad advice to people or perhaps to
some that don't even know what regedit is or will
even do for that matter. Apple should be able to
put together a script that will get the job done
correctly without having the enduser try a dangerous
    tool.
I love how you're asking for help, and then refusing the help provided. Regedit is complex, but that article goes through it step by step, and even gets you to export the specific registry tree that you will be working on, so you can set the registry back to how it was before.
However, the regedit fix that was mentioned earlier would be the easiest thing to go through. If you go through the steps and it doesn't work, try going through the exact same steps again, except skip the step where is says to enter 'GEARAspiWDM' in the UpperFilters. If you just leave UpperFilters blank, and restart the computer, the CD drive should re-appear, and iTunes should work (but give you a message saying that you'll be unable to import or burn CD's... although most of the time you still can anyways). If it doesn't work, you can always import the registry tree back to how it was before, and close out of that scary regedit program.

  • DVD RAM Drive issue

We have a macbook pro with 2 gig of RAM and osx tiger 10.4.8. We have a DVD RAM drive due to the nature of our work. This drive always seemed to take longer to sin up thn other drives but I just assumed this was o.k Now the drive simply spits all DVD types out, but plays CD's just fine which seems odd to us. We would like to know if it could be someting simple before we send it away to apple. Any suggestions please?

From my experience it sounds like you have a faulty drive. Replacement would be the option.

    Help?
    Minchroadster

    Hi Minchroadster
Open Disk Utility and select the DVD's image in the left column, then go up and hit the blue eject button. If for some unknown reason the DVD's image is not shown in Disk Utility, restart your Mac holding the mouse button to eject the DVD.
