I have a first generation air port express and i get a error

I found a old air express first generation in my garage. I try to connnect it but i keep getting this message "This version of AirPort Utility doesn’t support this base station. Go to AirPort Service and Support for more information. i am running the most current up date for airport utility 6.2

Check the model number on the side of the AirPort Express. A 1st Generation model is A1264.
If you see A1084 or A1088 there, these are much older versions of the AirPort Express which AirPort Utility 6.2 will not support.
If you want to try to configure the AirPort Express, you will need to use some rather complicated workarounds....not supported by Apple.....to install an older version of AirPort Utility on your Mac. Post back if you want to pursue this.

Unplug the modem from the power. Reset the AX to its factory defaults and reconfigure the base station using the AirPort Admin Utility. Your connection is via Ethernet and DHCP (your Comcast service is cable, not dsl, is it not?). If it is dsl, the connection method should be PPPoE. Tell the base station to distribute IP addresses using DHCP. Make sure your computer System Preferences>Network has PPPoE DISABLED. Plug the modem into the ethernet port of the AX. Now power up the modem. Can you connect?

Air port express and ipad, iphone, apple tv

i have my audio speakers plgged into my 3 air port express for 3 rooms in my house. when i use my old apple tv, i can play my music on all 3. however, on my ipad, itouch and mac computers, i can only do one at a time. Why?

The iPod Touch does not have the "Multiple" speakers function.
You only get one choice.
I have 3 Airport Express units and this is just the way Apple has it setup for the iPod Touch.
You should be able to choose all 3 on your Mac.
Look at the bottom right of your iTunes window and you should be able to choose multiple speakers.

I have followed ALL instructions for Firefox Sync and keep getting "Unexpected Error" when I try to log in on desktop.

1) have refreshed Firefox - doesn't help
2) have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox - doesn't help
3) have updated ALL other machines to current version Firefox - they are syncing fine, doesn't help this machine

No. I cannot log into an account. I cannot create a new account. I cannot Sync anything. I get the same sequence of events on two different machines: 1) I enter my info and hit return, 2) the little circle spins like something is happening, 3) within 10-15 seconds a red bar appears that says "Working", and 4) within another 10-15 seconds the red bar reads "Unexpected Error."
This same sequence also happens on a BRAND NEW laptop I just brought home from work yesterday and installed Firefox for the first time.
Could this be something with my home network settings?
p.s. I am the question originator... somehow in the process of implementing previous suggestions my old profile was deleted

This HAS to be something with my network settings at home. I am now at the office where Sync is working just fine on my work desktop and the BRAND NEW work laptop where I was getting the error messages when I tried this at home.
Any suggestions on where to look?

Air port express and Xbox 360

I use the Airport Express as my wireless router. When I first bought it I just used it for Air Tunes to my outside speakers, no problem. Then I was able to get cable internet and used it to connect to my iMac, no problem. Then my wife bought a laptop, connected to the ApE, no problem. Bought a Vizio Bluray, connected to the ApE, no problem. THEN I got an Xbox 360, the newest one out with the built in wifi, big problem. Nothing I can do will connect it to the ApE. I have tried manually setting the IP, subnetmask, SSID with password and nothing. Any thoughts on this??? Yes, I'm trying to play email wars with Microsoft support, but no help yet.

One option would be to enable Internet Sharing on the iMac to share the Internet connection to the XBox's Ethernet port.
To setup for Internet Sharing (Wireless to Wired):
Enable Software Firewall
System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall
o Click Stop to start the software firewall
Setup the Network
Cable Modem > (Ethernet cable) > /[Ethernet port] Wireless Internet Router > (wireless) > /[AirPort Card] iMac /[Ethernet port] > (Ethernet cable) > /[Ethernet port] XBox 360
Setup Port Order
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
o Verify that "AirPort" and "Built-In Ethernet" are enabled.
o Verify that "AirPort" is at the top of the list, followed by "Built-In Ethernet."
o Click "Apply Now."
Configure the Internet Connection
System Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort > TCP/IP
o Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
o Configure IPv6: Automatically or Off
Enable Internet Sharing
System Preferences > Sharing > Internet
o Share your connection from: AirPort
o To computers using: Built-In Ethernet (checked) (Note: Uncheck all other entries in the list.)

Air port express wont connect to internet

I am trying to use air port express and everything is hooked up correctly, it shows internet is there connected etc. but when i try to click on safari it doesn't connect to the internet. I am connected directly to the internet provider kind of like direct hook up to the modem. my network setup is a bit different. but what it comes down to is the airport is wireless and it doesn't connect to the internet. anyone able to help me get the airport working ?

In order to get help you're going to have to describe your setup and your problem a bit better.
First, how is your network configured? how are all the devices connected (hardwire or wireless) and what models of devices are you using?
A typical setup has a cable or dsl modem that receives a signal from your internet provider. This device is then either directly connected ot a computer, if it's the only device requireing internet access, or it's connected to a router via an ethernet cable. Depending on the type of router, the internet access is then shared via ethernet (hardwire) or wirelessly to other devices throughout the home.
How is your's set up?

Air Port Express Audio drop Out Problem

Hi I have just brought an Air Port Express home and spent the evening setting it up which went relatively smoothly, but once tested using the Optical out into an Musical Fidelity V3 X Dac (Digital to Analog Converter) the sound persistently jitters making music unlistenable,using conventional 3.5mm stereo jack output works fine it only seems to be on the optical.
Have read as much as I can find of use on the net but it seems either the optical out is faulty or incompatible with this DAC or some people have mentioned it might be the latest version of I tunes all my soft-wear is up to date.
Does anyone have a solution or should I return it or will anyone at Apple no what I`m talking about in the shop I got the impression they didn`t know anything about the Optical out.

You will need to try several different optical cables as they vary tremendously in their signal integrity. It is not unusual to see two identical cables from the same manufacturer perform very differently. Check out the store's return policy and try several different cables to see if you can find the right combination.

Air Port Express Power

I have a time capsule and two air port expresses. The time capsule is in the middle of my house, the expresses equidistant in opposite directions. I would like the expresses to both connect directly to the capsule, but they are connected in serial. How?

I ask because I have music running out of both expresses, and the one that is most distant from the time capsule (routed through the first express) regularly drops the music signal from itunes. And I am guessing the serial configuration of the routers has something to do with this, but my root problem is music dropout - any thoughts would be appreciated.

If you have the the most current model of the Express devices, the default setup is to "extend" the wireless signal. In this type of setup, each Express communicates directly to the Time Capsule.
How did you setup the AirPort Express devices?
What version of the Mac operating system are you using on your MacBook? Or, do you have AirPort Utility installed on your iPad?

In our discussion with Josh, the Apple Rep. he explained how it can either be connector to the router or use in another room relying on the existing wifi signal to extend it further into the house. We have verizon DSL. Our town is very small...no cable provided so we are lucky to have what we have...some areas of our town can't even get what we have. We, didn't want to connect it directly to the Verizon device (router)....we followed the directions from Josh as well as the explicit directions provided by Apple support...it didn't work. We keep getting an error message. Does anyone have any advice ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please speak in "Laymen's terms" I am not technically savy....but..am determined to get this set up. Thanks to anyone, in advance!

Unfortunately, it appears that Josh was not aware that the AirPort Express can only "extend" a wireless signal from another Apple router.
From Apple's literature:
Extend an existing Wi-Fi network’s range.
If you already have a wireless network in your home and want to extend its range, AirPort Express can help. Just place it in range of your primary base station — an AirPort Extreme, Time Capsule, or another AirPort Express — and near the area where you want your wireless connection. Launch the easy-to-use AirPort Utility app on your iOS device or Mac, and you’re mere minutes away from long-range Wi-Fi enjoyment.
The AirPort Express is not compatible with a Verizon product for this purpose.
Your might want to have another conversation with Josh to ask his advice on how best to proceed at this point.
If you do decide to keep the AirPort Express, it will be necessary to connect it to your Verizon router using a wired Ethernet cable connection if you want the Express to provide more wireless signal coverage.

Haven't much problem with Airs around here, since they have a SSD they tend to be more reliable.
Perhaps it was a bad update, have you ran through this list of possible fixes?
Do as many as possible, starting with #1. Until the problem is resolved.
Use the boot 10.6 USB instead of the disk of course.

Assuming your modem is wireless use Airport Utility to configure the AEX to extend an existing network. The modem's wireless router should be configured to allow its network to be extended.

Please check the model number on the side of the AirPort Express in the faint print. It will start with an "A" followed by four numbers, as in A x x x x.
