I have a HP Pavilion DV5-1223TX which had its hard disk wiped.

I bought from HP the RECOVERY DISK SET, and booted from the DVD. It proceeded fin. It asked for the supplemental disk, and then rebooted. After trying to restart, the recovery failed.
I had previously partitioned and formatted the drive (320GiB), but on inspection with Partition Wizard, I see that recovery has deleted the partition and created a 58GiB one in its place.
What am I doing wrong? Is there a special way the partitions should be set up? I understand that usually there's a 9GiB partition for RECOVERY and the rest for Windows (Vista 32-bit)

Hi:
Normally the recovery disks do what you stated...create a large partition for the OS to reside on and a smaller recovery partition.
You may want to try again.  If in the event you can't get the recovery disks to work (sometimes you can't no matter what you do), if you can read the 25 character Vista product key on the bottom of your notebook you can make your own Vista installation disk and install a plain copy of Vista on your notebook.
Here's how:
If you're up to a slight but rewarding challenge you can make your own if you can read your 25 character Vista product key on the PC.
Just download the 3 files you need at the link below, and read all of the instructions to create a bootable DVD installation disk using imageburn.
Disregard the part of the text under the first screen shot about "extract the files to the Vista folder."
The files were already extracted to that folder when you ran the X14.exe file by reading the text on top of the first screen shot.
The other thing I noticed is on the 4th screen shot, where it shows Developer ID Microsoft Corporation. I had to type Microsoft Corporation in myself, and then the other codes automatically populated.
When I went to compile the ISO file, ImageBurn gave a message that about a WIM file and ISO, and if I wanted to burn it in a different format.
I selected No, make the ISO file.
It was not that hard to do. I burned both the 64 bit disk and the 32 bit disk in case I ever need them.
I tested both of them on my hp dc7100 CMT desktop PC, they worked perfectly.
When you enter the product key, it knows what version of Vista you have.
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/w/microsoft_os/3317.2-3-microsoft-windows-v....
After you successfully install Vista, you can then install the drivers from your PC's support and driver page.

I have a HP Pavilion DV5 1251nr that won't boot up. The light at the power connector comes on nothing happen

First thing to try is a hard reset. Remove the battery and power supply. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. Wait another 30 seconds. Now plug in the power supply. Then try to start the computer. Let us know if that works. If not, we need to start thinking about hardware issues.

I have an old Mac book pro which had hundreds of photos in iphoto. recently bought a new mac book air. now my iphoto library on the old mac book is gone!!!!

now my iphoto library on the old mac book is gone!!!!
How did you search for the iPhoto Library?
What do you mean by "is gone"?  Is the iPhoto Library missing from the Pictures folder?  Or does iPhoto launch and show and empty library, and you assume, that the library is missing?
Which version of iPhoto is installed on your old Mac?
Search with Find Any File for iPhoto Libraries -  download Find Any File here: The trial is free:
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/index.htmlhttp://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/index.php
You can search everywhere with FindAnyFile, where Spotlight will not search.
I learned this  from Old Toad , see his post here:
Re: My iPhoto Library disappeared...how do I get it back?
Download and run Find Any File to search for a file with "ThumbJPGSegment" in the file name. These are files common to all versions of  iPhoto libraries.
FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages. If there's a library hiding somewhere on your hard drive FAF will find it.

    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.

  • HT4906 I have a Macbook Pro w/ Lion.  I recently had the hard drive wiped because of multiple problems since inception.  Anyway, I don't have iPhoto now and when I went to the free Apps it won't install because it says I already have it.....what to do?

Help me reinstall Iphoto.  Apple states that I already have it but since I had my hard drive wiped I don't have it and can't reinstall it...

If you're running Lion then the iPhoto version at the App Store will not work for you as it only runs on Mavericks.  What version did you have before this happened?
What system came preinstalled on your MBP? If it was Snow Leopard or earlier then you should have disks that came with your MBP that iPhoto can be installed from.  If it was Lion or later then you'll need to contact the App Store personnel via the link in this screenshot,
and see about getting an earlier version of iPhoto, i.e. iPhoto 9.4.3 or earlier.
Or you could upgrade your system to Mavericks for free and then purchase iPhioto 9.5.1 from the App Store.

  • Hello, i have a hp pavilion dv5 laptop and my mouse has started to close tabs instead of open them.

    Product name:  HP Pavilion DV5
    Operating system: Windows 7
    No error message
Unsure about upgrades (my laptop constantly has a message about some update or another.  Every time I turn it on it starts to try an update)
Recently my mouse pad has begun to malfunction.  When I hover my mouse over a tab in an internet browser and click the tab to open, my computer closes the tab instead.  I have tried turning the mouse pad off and on again as well as restarting the laptop to try and resolve the issue.  I have tried clicking on different parts of the tab as well, making sure that I am as far away from the "x" as possible and the tab still closes.  Please help.
    Thank you.

It appears to problem with my mouse is isolated to Google Chrome.  Firefox appears to be working normally with my mouse.

  • Pavilion dv5 2035dx - reinstalling after replacing hard drive

My hard drive in my Pavilion dv5 2035dx failed -every test imaginable and I could not get Windos 7 to load.  I purchased a replacement drive that is an exact dupilcate of the original Toshoba 500 and installed in my laptop.  I was not too concerned since I had created my backup disks and had them in my possession.
Well I put the system repair/boot disk in and everything went alon fine, until I was asked to put in my other disks. None of the other disks seem to have the information my notebook is looking for and I can not install the drivers or get the machine up and running. I've checked the HP website and can nt find a recovery kit.
I was unable to get to Windows on the old defective drive to and since I have replaced the drive, there is no restore poit to look for so I have to reinstall back to the day of purchase.  I need help, any suggestions on getting my notebook up and running again.

  • Which Solid State Hard Disk for Satellite Pro L670?

I have a Satellite Pro L670 which I want to configure for presentation purposes and have to re-load the operating system anyway.
Rather than over-write the existing disk, I thought it would be better to get a second one to fit instead.
Replacing the current (old-fashioned) spinning disk with a solid state one seems to me the best way to go.
Has anyone else fitted a solid state hard disk to a Satellite Pro?
For budget reasons I am planning to go for a 120GB capacity which will be enough.
However I have yet to find out from Toshiba what they might recommend. Anyone else yet gone this route?

    Hi
Theoretically any SATA SSD drive should be compatible because the notebook supports an SATA controller.
But in some cases it could be possible that an SSD drive would not be handled properly. In such cases the SDD drive manufacturers provides different firmware updates
So before purchasing an SSD drive check the support pages of SSD drive manufacturers for further details maybe an firmware update would be available

  • Have you replaced your optical drive with a second hard disk?

    Hi guys,
I am currently thinking about replacing my optical drive in my MacBook Pro for a 256 GB SSD, as my main hard drive is getting filled up.
Have you replaced the optical drive in your computer, and what is your experience? I'm looking at either OptiBay or OWC Data Doubler. Which would you recommend?
    Thanks!

Actually I'm about ready to do this myself.
I installed a SSD in my Windows 7 desktop PC about 9 months ago and the difference is just amazing.
I bought a new Dell Latitude and got it about a week ago, very fast but not as fast as my desktop. I then ordered a modular bay hard drive enclosure to replace the optical drive and another SSD. Installed the drive I had as my boot drive, a 750GB 7200RPM drive, in the modular bay enclosure and installed the SSD as the main boot drive. System screams.
I then look at my MBP late 2011 with i7 CPU and the 5400RPM drive that comes with it. Slow comparatively.
So I've been hunting around and I think I've settled on the Optibay as it comes with a optical drive enclosure and the proper cable to connect that drive to a USB port.
I will mount the SSD in the optical bay caddy and make that my Boot drive leaving the original HDD where it is as the mounting system for it has shock absorbers. The SSD I will get willl be the 6GB type as but the main SATA port and the optical bay port are both 6GB.

  • Pavilion zv5343us hard disk upgrade

    Hi,
I have HP Pavilion zv5343us notebook which has 40GB hard disk. I want to upgrade it, I would like to know what is the maximum size that my laptop can support and what model will fits it?
    Thanks,
    Shankarraju S

zv5000 series uses a PATA hard drive (old school). Yours is the Intel Pentium 4 version and should be able to run a drive larger than 120 gigs. You are safe 100% to get a 120 gig drive.; and if you can get past that the sky is the limit. I have seen up to 500 gig laptop PATA drives but they are rare and pricey...250s and 320s are more common and a bit more reasonable. Get a 7200 rpm drive if you can find and afford one as it really peps up older laptops. I had the AMD version of the same laptop but at the time I had it 80 gigs was the largest laptop hard drive you could buy so I have no direct experience with larger drives. Unfortunately, the most common PATA drives you can now find in the market are 160 gigs. I believe you are safe in installing it based on the fact the hard drive vendors are offering larger drives for it and guaranteeing compatibility. Just make sure your BIOS is up to date and that you are running SP3 if you are using Windows XP. Here is a 160 gig drive that will work. You have to reuse the caddy and connector piece from the old drive. Post back if you need more instructions. The hard drive is under the rectangular plate in the corner of the bottom, held down by 4 screws at the corners of the plate.

  • Problem with sound delay from mic to speakers with quickplay on HP Pavilion dv5-1145ev

I have an HP Pavilion dv5-1145 ev. When I try to use karaoke with HP's quickplay there is a significant sound delay from the microphone to the speakers. I also noticed the same delay, even when I am recording my voice with other programs such as audacity. There is a voice delay too. I have windows vista and I have tried to change the settings of the sound from control panel, without any luck. Any suggestions please?

I have an HP Presario CQ61 that I bought to record my own music in tracks and it's useless to me because I have about a second delay from the mic to my recording program and headphones. You would think that with all the brainy knowlage Bill Gates and the computer industry has someone can come up with a downloadable fix for this problem. If I knew I would have this problem before I bought the thing I wouldn't have wasted my money.  If anyone finds a fix for this please let me know.
