If it won't boot from the Hard Drive or Optical Drive, you may well have a fault with the Sata Controller on the Motherboard - at the end of the day, by far your best option as your notebook is still under warranty, is to contact HP and arrange for it to be repaired.

Yes, it is the discs that are the problem - you will need to use good quality DVD+R or DVD-R discs. See the section under the sub-heading 'Create a set of operating system Recovery Discs' on the link below.

Open your Displays system preferences. Is there an Arrangement tab and does it show two screens? If no Arrangement tab then your mac does not know it has two screens. Maybe smc and pram reset will shake it free and maybe not. Maybe there's something wrong with the connection. Thunderbolt plugs are similar to mini-displayport plugs so make sure the plug is pushed firmly in so that essentially all the metal part disappears inside the socket. I understand that you are getting a blank screen and your caps lock button is blinking. I will try my best to help you with this problem. To better guide you, could you please give me the full model number or product number of your Notebook and the operating system that is currently running on it. Hi I have a HP Pavilion Dv4 laptop computer. My E:\ CDDVDW TS-L633M cd drive has stopped working. When I insert a new CD or an exiting cd into the cd drive, the computer displays a message to insert a cd into the drive. i Know that the cd that I'm inserting into the drive should be readable, but the computer doesn't recognize it. When I run the HP support assistant, and choose the HP Optical Disc Drive Check, I get the message "Insert media in : E:\ hp CDDVDW TS-L633M
If you want to do write testing, insert blank writeable media, Otherwise, read-only testing will be performed. When I insert a disk with a program that I want to install on the computer into the cd drive and click the next button, I get a window that says:
"Media Identification:
Wait while the media is being Identified."
Then another window is displayed with the message:
"Media Identification
No disc has been detected."
But I know that the disk is formatted correctly for my cd reader to recognize it.

First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.

Check if the drive is now working.
If the drive is not working, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager. Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives. Right click the drive and select uninstall. Do not delete drivers if asked. When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ). Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now works.

First thing to try is a hard reset. Remove the battery and power supply. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. Wait another 30 seconds. Now plug in the power supply. Then try to start the computer. Let us know if that works. If not, we need to start thinking about hardware issues.

You can try to see if they will replace it, however there is some sort of acceptable amount of stuck pixels and they won't replace so I hear.
But that was a long time ago and things change.

Do you have two hard drives connected when attempting to boot from the 2TB drive? If so, I suggest disconnecting the the second hard drive to see if that helps. Also, if you haven't done so, updating to XP SP3 may help.

You may have had that iPad for 18 months but it must have sat in the store for a while before that. If there is no update choice in Settings then you must have an iOS version prior to ios 5. For those older versions you must update while your iPad is connected to the computer you normally sync with and while running iTunes on that computer.
Start iTunes on the computer, connect your iPad, select your iPad in iTunes and select Summary from the row of tabs that is presented. Scroll down under Summary to find Check for Updates.

Recently my mouse pad has begun to malfunction. When I hover my mouse over a tab in an internet browser and click the tab to open, my computer closes the tab instead. I have tried turning the mouse pad off and on again as well as restarting the laptop to try and resolve the issue. I have tried clicking on different parts of the tab as well, making sure that I am as far away from the "x" as possible and the tab still closes. Please help.

Copy the music library from your old computer or the backup of your old computer to the new computer.

HP laptop shutting down randomly (8 month old)

HP pavilion g series, purchased new in Canada; one month in, it was constantly freezing; sent back to hp and that was fixed but came back with a new problem, random constant shutdowns; this varies, sometimes only a few times per day but sometimes constantly, every 2 minutes. Not happy with Hp at all and if they don't fix it I will never purchase another hp product again. I have in my house another hp laptop with no problems, two hp netbooks, an hp desktop and printer. This doesn't seem to matter to them that they will be losing a valued customer. Has been returned to hp for repair 6 times, going out again this week. Trying to assess it on my own. Tonight it isn't shutting down while using battery power, just unplugged power cord to see what happens. It is not hot and I do hear fans and make sure that it is elevated to keep it cool. You can't talk to anyway at hp, I want a new laptop. They can keep it, useless to my daughter who is a university student. She can't be doing papers etc with the computer shutting down randomly. Wefinally got around to calling Costco Concierge service (should be a sticker on your laptop if you bought it there), verified that we already did everything (see first post) he was going to suggest, however,
There was just one more thing to check after all:
Reboot and hit [F2] to get into another HP Utility. There is a battery check there, and that one told us
Primary - Replace (40)
So he had us hold while he contacted HP to begin a battery order for us - then he patched us thru to HP to complete the call. Of course, it would be free as still covered by warranty. Was painless, quick and best of all, that phone call was YESTERDAY mid-afternoon and guess what? We received the new battery before lunch today shipped from SC to ON. AWESOME!!!!!
