I have a iPod 2nd generation and it will not charge or connect to itunes, I have tried pressing the power button and home botton together and nothing happened.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Place it in recovery mode by:

The first two generations of iPod (that used a standard 6-pin Firewire cable) don't work with Windows. There was a workaound through MusicMatch for the second-gen, but I have no idea if that software is still available, or even if it will install on a modern copmputer (Windows ME, 2000 and XP era).
If instead of original, you mean the first model that got labelled as "classic," with a dock connector, if you describe exactly what appears on both the iPod and the PC screen when you plug it in, somebody might be able to help you. My first recommendations would be to (1)try a different USB cable, to see if that's the problem, and then (2) try synching with a different computer, to see if your PC is the problem. If neither of those result in success, then the community here can help you to try troubleshooting the iPod itself.

Last week, my iPod would not charge or connect to iTunes. I took it to the Apple Store and they exchanged mine for another. Just a couple of days ago, my new iPod had been experiencing the same problem. As of now, it would not charge to my computer or any outlet for that matter or connect to iTunes. I want to take it to the Apple Store and get it checked out but I'm afraid they won't exchange it again, they'll probably charge me and I don't have the money. Any ideas or suggestions?

I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. You warranty is istll in effect. The warranty for a replacement iPod is 90 days or the remainder of the original warranty, which ever is greater.

okay so i habe this ipod 2nd generation i actually have two and they are both doing the same thing at first i plug them in and the only thing that comes up is the do not disconeect screen but after a while oh fiddling with it i got the screen to go away and i can se my music and videos and i can see that my battery is full now the moment i unplugg either ipod they automatically freeze, the backlight goes out then the screen eventually fades completely away. now while this is happening none of the bottons works and the ipods are not able to be turned on or play at all almost as if there dead. but they are not becuase as soon as i plug them back in everything shows up perfect the battery is fully charged the backlight is on and the butttons work. help please

Sounds like your battery is not taking a charge, I know it shows full with you plug it in. Try plugging it into a wall socket for a few hours and see if the iPod will work on battery power.

This is an iPod shuffle 3rd gen? I realize this forum category is for the shuffle, but sometimes people post in the wrong category, so I want to confirm your iPod is not a 3rd gen iPod "classic" or 3rd gen iPod nano...
Assuming it's a 3rd gen shuffle (the one with no control buttons on the shuffle), are you using the USB cable that came with it? There are third-party replacement cables that will fit, but if it's made for the 2nd gen shuffle, it will not work with a 3rd (or 4th) gen shuffle. The connector is different.

So I have tried everything, plugging into 3 different chargers, into the wall and pc. Two different USB ports on the pc. And yet nothing. I have done all the hold down the top and home button for 10 seconds then also a minute and yet still nothing. It was was working fine charging and every thing and I unplugged it walked out of my room for about 5-10 mins go to plug it back up and nothing. I have been searching for over a hour looking for solution's. What is really crazy about it it that if I turn it off then plug into my pc the apple logo will pop up and it will come on and it seems to have charged some. But it still will not charge while on or be recognized by my pc or Itunes. I know it can't be any of the prongs on the charger port bent because it would not charge while off. Someone please help!! I have an iPod Touch 2 and it will not 'boot up'.

I have an iPod 2, which is 4 years old now and when I switch it on I get the Apple symbol and then the rotating circle and that is where it stays.

Use iTunes to update it. Download the latest version and install it. Once it is plugged in, it will ask if you want to update your iPhone to iOS 7. If that does not work then click restore.

I have an iPod 2nd Generation and it won't show up in iTunes

So I got a new laptop and I wante to transfer my music from my iPod onto it, so I plugged it in the new laptop. I accidentally clicked that it was okay for all of my music to be erased, which is not what I wanted to do.
Anyway, so I figured that I could just hook my iPod up to my old computer (which is a dinosaur and barely functioning) and get the music back onto my iPod. But it said to get all of it on there, I had to download the latest version of iTunes which I ha not done since probably 2008.
After I downloaded the newest version, i hooked my iPod into the comuter, and it began syncing. It had been on step one of the syncing proess all day (approx. 8 hours) and it wasnt moving, so I unhooked it, thinking something was wrong, and that I would try again.
Ever sice then, Windows would recognize that my iPod was plugged in and ask to transfer my pictures to Microsoft Word, but iTunes did not register that my iPod was plugged in..

It already restored on my new compuer, so now it's completely wiped.
But when I plug it into my old computer it's only registering when I put it into recovery mode, and then it won't let me recover it because of a network probem ot being secure, so it is telling me to try again later.
It says "The iPod software update server could not be contacted."
