I have a ipod classic 5th gen 30gb, if i download a movie or song from the current itunes i use with my ipod touch will it play? or do i have to get another type of itunes, if so which one?

i have windows 7 and a2nd gen ipod touch and i just aquired an ipod classic which is a 5th gen from 2005 with a 30 gb capacity. can i download a video movie or episode and songs from the current itunes i use for my ipod touch or is there a different one i should use? please help.

You can plug the iPod into the same iTunes library as your iPod Touch and sync whatever content you like to it. There is no limilt to the number of iPads, iPhones, or iPods you can sync with one iTunes library, account, or computer. How you sync one device will not affect the syncing preferences of the other.

I need some help here. In the past, I've been able to connect my iPod to my iTunes, hit sync, and be on my way. Now, I don't know what has happened, but, whenever I connect my iPod to iTunes and hit sync, iTunes just keeps saying that it is "Starting sync" and doesn't get past that. It does show up in iTunes and I have been able to move files on the iPods disc, but it just refuses to sync. I've tried waiting for very long amounts of time, yet it still just says "Starting sync." I don't think the wireless receiver for the keyboard/mouse will have any effect. Sometimes, there can be conflict between USB devices, so that's why I advised removing as much as possible.
The fact that it completes Restore successfully seems show that the iPod is OK. If it was getting stuck during the syncing, like maybe a part of the iPod's hard drive has bad sectors, then it would get passed the "starting sync" bit and show the progress bar. So I think it's something related to software (on the computer).
Try this... Select the iPod in the sidebar under DEVICES. Over to the right, on the Summary tab, check the checkbox for Enable disk use. Apply the change. This will keep the iPod connected to Windows as a "disk," even when iTunes is not syncing. With disk use enabled, try doing a sync. NOTE: When disk use is enabled, you have to Eject the iPod in iTunes before physically disconnecting it.

The hard drive has been upgraded, it has a new logicboard (with 128mb RAM), new housing, battery, hold / headphone jack. Basically the only original parts are the bezel, click wheel, screen, and data ribbons. Have attempted the 3Rs and have also tried to isolate potentially corrupt audio files and remove them, but this did not seem to be the primary cause. The sync failure consistently happens at just under a 1000 songs (5.4gb) and then it starts to error (-69) any song after that. Your advise would be enthusiastically received.

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.

I have already restored, updated, erased hard drive using disk utility and installed fresh copy of ios 1.1.2, replaced the battery, used all my usb ports, used firewire port, formatted on both windows and mac, and downgraded to 1.1.0, but still can't go past 12.9 GB.
What can I do to resolve this problem?

By the sounds of it, you have pretty much exhausted all forms of troubleshooting for this type of issue. It appears that the iPod's HD is beyond repair. IPod classic 5th gen. with sad face goes into disk mode but wont register in itunes

I have an iPod classic 5th gen. A while ago it stopped working and the sad faced iPod started showing up. i've tried putting it into disk mode but when i do it wont pop up into itunes like it should and as soon as i unplug it the sad face appears again. is there anyway to fix it or is it done?

Btw, there's no such thing as a "4th generation 20gb classic." Your iPod is a 4th gen and not an iPod classic which is a completely different model.

I am really good with apple products and have alrady replaced the headphone jack and lock switch, and the lock switch works but no audio comes from this iPod

Perhaps this older thread can shed a little light. This problem usually is the result of a bad/failed/damaged audio chip on the iPod's logic board.

My iPod classic 5th gen will not do absolutely anything even when plugged into a working charger. Ive tried resetting it but there is not even an apply logo pop up screen, it absolutely does nothing.

Have you tried a reset of the iPod? To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Otherwise, try a restore of the iPod in iTunes.

Ipod classic 5th gen weird serial number 8L*****887

Have an ipod classic 5th gen all functions perfect. connects to itunes. restores fine and all seems as it should except serial number on rear case of 8L******887 model no A1238 and serial number showing in itunes is u1******890.
Anyone got any ideas????

What is the iPod software version as shown in the iTunes summarry page?
Which model of iPod Classic are you using?
Can you play the music listed in the iTunes library?
Most helpful if you try and get the error message or bring it in to the Apple Store for the Genius to have a look.

Alright, here are the details: my iPod classic 5th gen. is stuck in recovery mode,

A person on youtube presented a fix by putting the ipod into disk mode and then plugging it into your Windows computer. Well... what happens on mine is the itunes dashboard does come up which to me means it recognizes an ipod is attached but after 30 mins. the icon showing my ipod never appears on the dashboard so I can open it to restore it. Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer

- Easing the library on the MacBook does not effect what is on the iMac. On the other hand if you deleted the messages in the Mail app on the MacBook then they will deleted from all devices.

Why do I have to keep re-downloading all of my songs from the cloud with iTunes match?

I will download all of my songs from the cloud. But then I will wake up one morning and have to re-downlaod all of them. This is really anoying because it takes time for the songs to download, so i can't listen to them.

This is on my iPhone 4. I will download them and then it will randomly just decide that I will have to re-download all of the songs again. And this process just keeps repeating!!! It is annoying!

Restoring from backup will result in the iPod being like it was when the backup was made. If you restore via iTunes, you have to have all the synced media in your iTunes library since those are not included in the iPod backup.

It sounds like you might want to just turn iTunes Match off on your iPad and sync the old-fashioned way from your iTunes library. That way, you can just choose what music you want and not have to redownload everything. You can always turn iTunes Match back on later if you choose to.
Now the other benefit of iTunes Match is that it upgrades your tracks to 256 Kbps. If you're keen on having those higher quality tracks to listen to on your iPad (remember, they're also larger files), you can upgrade them in your iTunes library. Once you've run Match and it's finished its work, you can delete your songs (in iTunes on your computer) and Match will let you redownload them at the higher quality. Just be sure to have a current backup before doing this, just in case, and also note that some tracks might not be able to matched. Be careful not to delete those. You can sort your songs by Kind to weed those out.

Copy all the contents currently on your iPod Classic to your new iTunes library and then choose the Erase and Sync option.
