I have a late model Intel iMac. Is it possible to have two Firefox browsers at one time? Currently, I have Safari and Firefox. I prefer Firefox. Thanks!

I have an Intel iMac. I am using Safari 5.0.5 and Firefox 9.0.1. I would like to be using two Firefox browsers, Is that possible? With Firefox I am not tracked. I like my privacy! With Safari I am being tracked. I have a new app called "Cookie", and I found out how rampant the tracking is with Safari. What happened to privacy? Is it too much to ask to have a bit of privacy? Anyway, thank you!

  • HT201295 Late 2009 Intel iMac Needs Frequent SMC reset - constant high speed running fan

Late 2009 Intel iMac is having reoccurring episodes of high speed fan running, especially after waking it up. The SMC reset by unplug and reboot works, but I worry that this is a serious sign and that the machine is slowly dying. Any thoughts? Works fine otherwise.

     Do you have any ideas?
Yes, you just need to reset the SMC and you should be fine

    Whoops you already did that.

  • IPhoto 9.6 and 1 password version 5.0 Incompatible with Yosemite on late model 2009 iMac

Anyone else having issues trying to get 1Password Version 5.0 and iPhoto 9.6 to update in Yosemite on a late model 2009 iMac?  When checking for updates, it says these are incompatible.

    Dr Automobile wrote:
Sorry, but there are no new iPhoto or iMovie updates to install other than the iPhoto and iMove updates dated Oct 10th which were released to "address compatibility issues with Yosemite' However, they themselves are now listed as incompatible.
Perhaps someone from Apple could explain this?
    Makes no sense...
Or perhaps you could rebuild the iPhoto database as instructed.
BTW you are not addressing Apple on these forums, Apple does not read or participate in them. These forums are user to user only, the people replying are volunteer end-users just like yourself. If you want to contact Apple directly I would suggest visiting a Genius or calling AppleCare for additional support.

In the last week my Imac (OS Lion) has started opening two to seven programs every time I log in.  Why?  How do I stop it?  I think it started after I was led to do something I can't remember with Terminal.app.

If they have open windows/documents from your last use of the application, try going to System Preferences/General and check the 'Close windows when quitting application'.

That's a kernel panic and indicates some sort of problem either with the computer's hardware or software. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on diagnosing kernel panics. It would help to post the panic log: Mac OS X- How to log a kernel panic.
Meanwhile, try booting the computers into Safe Mode then restarting normally. If this is simply a disk repair or cache file problem then this may fix it.
You can also try creating a new admin account on each computer then booting into the new account. This would help determine if the problem is related to a bad file in the user accounts.

I suggest you call your power company and ask them to monitor your circuit for spikes. Your other appliances are at risk also. I've been using the same Apple USB adapters for 7 years.

  • Time Machine very slow, Safari and iTunes have to Force Quit

Anyone else having these issues after Mavericks "upgrade"?
Time Machine is so slow as to be ineffective of useless, symtoms:
         - takes hours to prepare and run a backup of a couple of GB to the Time Capsule, anything up to 20 hrs!
         - constantly revising the amount to be backed up, up and down
         - seems to freeze periodically ad stick part way through with no change to the backed amount for hours, then speeds up, freezes, speeds up
         - time remaining estimate alternates between "casculating, estimates of hours and seconds! wildly inaccurate
                  - it's been saying 5 seconds remaining for the last 2 hrs.
         - have done two backup verifications to check for Time Capsule problems - none
         - only two successful backups achieved since the Maverisks "upgrade" due to the time it takes
         - both Time Capsule and Airport Express have the latest firmware and software
Coincident with this, both Safari and iTunes (the latest Mavericks compatible versions) both freeze when trying to quit them - have to force quit.  Both experience random slow downs and with the spinning rainbow beachball.
Looks like a Mavericks problem with the Wifi and Timemachine?
Using a late 2008 aluminium unibody Macbook with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD, 100Gb of free space o the SSD.  Connecting via Wifi to Time Capsule (2TB, with 1.8TB free) and Airport Express (both n Wifi).

Check whether there is a crash report:
Go to your Applications Folder and open your Utilities Folder. Open the application Console.
In the left-hand column, click on Crash Reporter.
Click on the small triangle under Crash Reporter in the l/h column and they will all be listed.
Scroll down to the latest Safari report and click on it.
Now click on the r/h column (which now only shows THAT crash report and then Command-a to copy it all.
Come back here and Command-v it to post it here!

  • Max ram for 2.4ghz 2008 model intel imac 24"?

      Hi.
Im trying to get the max ammount of ram in my imac 24" 2008 model aluminum body i believe. it has 2.4ghz intel core 2 duo. and its running mac os x 10.5.8
I want to get the highest ammount of ram my machine can handle. I know apple says 4gb is max, but im wondering if anyone has put in 8gb and it works?
also could you tell me what the ram is called exactly so I can type it in to amazon and find the correct kind. Please help me on this issue! I want the MAXIMUM ram for my imac!!! Thanks all!
Also, would it be worth upgraded to snow leopard? Im new to macs and dont know if that would make a difference? Give me your opinions on this and I'll do as you say for you are more knowledgable then I at macs! thanks again.
And what all can I download for my machine in terms of operating systems to make it the most current my machine can run at? can I install lion after leopard on my machine?

The maximum you can put in is 6GB, that is all that machine can address. WWW.MacSales.com (OWC) makes a 6GB kit and I'd recommend purchasing from them. Your machine could be a late 2007 or mid (began shipping in April) 2008. You will need to check the specifications which you can find in your owners manual or click Support in the upper right of this page then click Tech Specs. OWC is the only vendor I know that makes a 6GB kit however if you have the correct specs you can make your own, a 1x2GB DIMM and a 1X4GB DIMM. You don't mention where on the planet you're located, OWC is a US company but will ship overseas.

  • Late 2007 Intel iMac getting stuck at boot...sometimes.

I'll go into as much detail here as I can, but feel free to ask questions. This is:
    Model Identifier: iMac7,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B03
    SMC Version (system): 1.21f4
I rarely shut this computer off, and for the most part it runs fine, but when I do shut it down or Restart, whether it boots again or not is a gamble. I have backups, so I'm not concerned about losing data, just concerned by the instability. There's no boot camp or strange partitioning. Just a single partition "Macintosh HD" that the system boots from.
Here are the tests I've run:
    1) Built in hardware test. I've had it hang while "probing hardware",
but once I run the extended tests, it always passes.
    2) Disk Utility. I've verified the disk and repaired it, occasionally
I get an error, but it's always been fixable, and the last test I ran
said the HD seemed to be okay. I've also repaired the permissions several
times. There are a couple of "Warning: SUID file 'bleh' has been modified and
    will not be repaired." warnings.
    3) Reset the SMC controller, by disconnecting all the cables including power
and letting it sit for 30 minutes -- several times.
    4) Done the Command-Option-P-R reset several times.
    5) S.M.A.R.T. indicates nothing wrong with the drive.
When things go bad, there are several ways it happens.
    1) Sometimes I get the grey screen, no apple or wheel. Just sits at the grey
    screen forever.
    2) After a couple of reboots, I'll usually get to the apple logo and wheel, but it
    stays there forever.
    3) After 10 or 20 reboots, I can usually get it to go all the way through
    and start up.
Sometimes when I can get it to boot from the Install DVD, the physical harddrive is listed in the Disk Utility but not the "Macintosh HD" partition, so I can't check or repair it.
I have thought that this might be heat related, maybe it works better as it heats up, but this doesn't explain the inability to just restart it when it's been running for a week.
What does this sound like to you? I have to admit that I'm stumped, and since I don't really have a good grasp on what's going on at each stage of the boot sequence, I can't narrow it down to one thing or another. I guess worst case I'll take it in to the "Geniuses" at the Apple Store, but I'd like to understand exactly what's going on here.
    Any help would be....helpful.

I've had totally mixed luck with hard drives in the past. I had a drive fail on me after 1 month and another last for the last 10 years. I'm not upset, assuming it doesn't happen again in 2 years.
Personally, I think the heat inside the iMac makes it a little harder on the drive, which might accelerate it's life. Once it started to go I installed "iMac Fan Control" (just google it) to keep the heat down. No idea if it milked a little more life out of it or not, but I think I'll keep running it.

  • Intel iMac Bluetooth problems - possibly a defective computer?

Hi there - we just got a new iMac and just took it out of the box to get it set up and the mosue and keyboard won't work with it. The bluetooth mouse will pair, but the connection keeps dropping. The keyboard won't pair at all. The bluetooth status icon on the screen altenately shows that it is not connected, that it is connected and that bluetooth is not available.
Has anyone else experienced this with a brand new iMac?
    Thanks

Does this basically means that NO BLUETOOTH connection is available between iPad2 and MacBookPro (5.5)?
Because I just posted a question since I don't seem to be able to pair the above mentioned devices: my MBP shows "pairing successful", whereas my iPad says "not connected" and doesn't even discover/"see" my MBP.
(not only the MBP, but my Mac-mini as well, although I set it to "discoverable"-my MBP sees the Mac-mini....)
If you know the answer, could you also explain why my iPad doesn't seem to "see" other devices that are discoverable like that example with the Mac-mini?
    Thank you very much!!!

  • I have two windows open, but one will only show the preview and when I try to bring it up, it won't open?

I can see the window as a little thumbnail when I hover over the firefox icon in the taskbar - & I can even change the contents, because it seems to be the 'main' window, so when I tried to change a setting in my add-ons, the add-on window opened in it, and I have no way of reaching it. When I try to click on the window to bring it up, it 'selects' and is highlighted, but it never comes up, no matter how long I wait.
I can close the window that does pop up, and the other window remains unaffected. Even manually trying to "switch over" to the window from the task manager won't work.
EDIT: I am all up-to-date, Firefox 15.0, etc.

Perhaps the PLUGIN Update feature needs to be engaged to assure that both Java and Shockwave editions are current. It requires 'Help' > 'Firefox Help' > where the lower right side displays a link for Plug-In Update...

  • I have Safari and Firefox browsers on my MacBook. When using Safari to access webmail, I will get a MacKeeper Advert on the site, but not when using Firefox. This is consistent.  Can Safari software "block" the MacKeeper Ad, please?

Have tried to identify the site referral, but the opening page and back page of the webmail site have multiple advertisers.  My guess is it would require something tailored to the word or image-word MacKeeper, MACKEEPER and Mac Keeper or MAC KEEPER.

    Try http://safariadblock.com/
It's a Safari extension - so easily switched off or uninstalled. If it doesn't block those ads right off, you can customose it to block most annoyances.

  • Is it possible to have Safari and Google Chrome simultaneously on my MacBook Pro OS X Yosemite, is it possible to have Safari and Google Chrome simultaneously on my MacBook Pro OS X Yosemite

    Yes.

  • Is there any way to get proof of purchase through Apple as I don't have receipt and paid cash for product, thanks

Hi I have a hard wear problem, I bought from tesco but won't help me as I no longer have the receipt and I paid cash, is there anything I can do? Oh and took to Apple but it's over it's 1 year guarantee, but just under two years old, thanks

If the developers of the app don't support 4.2.1 then the answer is no, unless you have an older version lying around.

  • What's a better browser for OS X? I have Safari and Chrome? . and I also got a iphone 4 running iOS 6.

    I got a MBP 2011 15'' i7 quad core , 2.0 ghz ,  with 8GB ram, I'm deciding on whats a good browser to use.

Safari works properly in most of the cases and it's good for a basic browsing. However, it has got a lot of bugs that make other browsers better. In this case, both Firefox and Chrome works well with Macs. You should try all of them and decide what's the best one
