  • HT201365 I work for a company and when we have users terminated they return their phones and we do not know the passcord or apple id for them how are we suppose to wipe a device?

We terminate user and we sometimes like to remote wipe or get back a phone that is locked by a passcode we do not know what it is? So how are we suppose to be able to wipe the devices. The users setup their own apple accounts so we never know which email or password are either? so how are we suppose to remotely wipe or wipe device to be able to reuse?

I am in the same situation, trying to figure out the most elegant way of recovering company iPhone assets that are returned to me.  It won't help for anyone already set up under an existing Apple ID, but here is what we're doing, moving forward:  All AppleID accounts must be set up under the user's work email address.  This way, when John Smith leaves our company, I can have our email admins reset his work email password.  I then go to the Apple ID link, ask Apple to reset that user's work AppleID password through Email authentication, and that auto-email is sent to the mailbox that I now have control of.  I click the "reset" link in the email, and proceed from there.  Not the smoothest process, but it will hopefully work.

  • Used macbook air running OS 10 and I do not know the admin password so I can't get "in"

Anyone know how to retrieve or work aorund not knowing a admin password?  I just bought a used macbook air running Mavricks and I don't know the **** password.  The company I bought the compuer from is only open from 5am till 5pm Mon-Fri and of course it is after that on a Friday night!
    Any help would be appreciated.

Reboot holding down cmd-R. It will reboot to the recovery partition. Click the Utilitites menu, then Terminal.
    In Terminal, type

  • I am trying to have a new apple id but i cannot i don t know the reason i have  a new email also..

i make a new apple id and the ipad doesn t allow me to put it..

Did you sign out of your old Apple ID on your iPad before trying to use your new ID?
Also keep in mind that all apps, music, etc. purchased with the old ID will always be related to that ID. If you want to update an app downloaded or purchased with the old ID you will have to enter that old ID and password in order for the update to complete.

  • I have a mac air. I stupidly did something to it. Don't even know myself but I lost everything and cannot get the Mountain Lion back. Am up a creek and have to buy what was given to me when I purchased the machine?

I have a Mac Air. I stupidly did something that wiped out the machine and I managed (wow) to get the system back only with the old operation system that was a free upgrade at the time I bought this. Help! Do I have to purchase a new one now? Thanks

If you paid for OS 10.8 at any time, you can get it again at no cost from the App store. You will need to use the same Apple id that you used for the purchase.

  • My mac air says hard drive full and 90% is full of 'other' which I cant work out what 'other' is as i Have transferred most to my external hard drive

My mac air says hard drive full and 90% is full of 'other' which I cant work out what 'other' is as i Have transferred most to my external hard drive.
Do you know how I can tell how large each file is taking up and what my 'other' category could be?
    thanks

Initial easy steps to gain disk space:
    - Delete all files in the Downloads folder.
      Empty the Trash.
    - Start iPhoto.
      Empty its trash.
      Restart.
    Backup:
Run a Time Machine (or other) backup since you are about to delete and move files and you may need to recover from any inadvertent mistakes or decisions.  You will need one external hard drive for your Time Machine (or other) backup and a second if you plan to offload some files.  (See suggestions for where to purchase hard drives at the end of this message.)

    Deleting files:
Then use the free application OmniDiskSweeper http://www.omnigroup.com/more to explore your volume in descending order by size so you can attack the problem from the top down, deleting the largest unwanted files first.  Delete with caution and do not delete any system files.  Remember to empty the trash after trashing the files.
Additional reference on freeing disk space:
    http://pondini.org/OSX/DiskSpace.html
    Offloading files:
Consider moving some of the no-often-used large files or directories to an external disk.  Use ODS again to find them.  This will be at least your second hard drive.  Your first one(s) is/are for your Time Machine (or other) backup(s).  Do not offload files onto a Time Machine disk.
Format the second drive as Mac OS Extended (journaled).  Using OWS to find large files/folders and copy them from the system drive to the external hard drive and delete them from your internal drive.
Then  > System Preferences > Time Machine > Options… > Remove the offload HD name from the exclusions list.
Now both your system disk and your external offload disk will be backed up onto your Time Machine disk.

  • I have my mac air hooked to the tv using thunderbolt and HDMI

I have my mac air hooked to the tv using thunderbolt and HDMI the background screen and screen saver are the only things that will appear, but no icon's and cursor what I'm i missing?

That's called the "extended desktop mode".  Your screen is logically extended to the right (by default).  Drag an application off the right side of your MBair screen and it'll appear on the TV.
You can also toggle between extended desktop and mirror mode by pressing CMD F1.
Visit all the settings in System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement tab.

  • I have an mac Air 60 gig - I am now out of memory.

I have a Mac Air 60 gig I am now out of memory.  It says that I have 50 gigs used as "other"  I don't know how to delete "other" Help!  My computer is useless it wont allow me to do anything.  Can some help me to figure out how to free up memory?
    Thank you

First, your problem has nothing to do with local snapshots. You don't have any local snapshots, and if you did, they wouldn't be contributing to "Other."
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
If you're using Time Machine to back up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of files you've recently deleted. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as "Backups." The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself.
To locate large files, you can use Spotlight. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders. It may take a few minutes for ODS to list all the files.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • I have a mac air and an iMac and both have Pages. I use Pages on my air and save all documents to iCloud. I can see them on my iMac but it won't open with Pages. It becomes visible if I change it to open with preview but I can't interact with it.

I have an mac air and an iMac 5k - pages runs on both.  I use pages on my air and save all my documents to iCloud drive. I can see the documents on my iMac but some won't open in pages which is bizarre? They will open if I change it to open with preview but then all I can do is read it  - I can't add to the document - All I want is to be able to see all my documents on all my devices and to be able to have them sync so I can add to the documents from  any of my devices. I also have an iPhone 6 and an iPadair2 but I would be happy just to have the iMac and macair sync for starters. I have folders within folders in my documents,. The folders which contain pdf's and individual files open OK . The one I am having difficulty with is the file which I use for ongoing correspondence - in other words it is quite long - I keep adding to it  ( by copying letters in and letters out so I can see a sequential history of what has been going on by scrolling down ) in date order so that it could be 1 - 100 pages long - but I don't think the size is a problem. I don't understand why some folders can open and others not . Has anyone any suggestions please. I have been trying to get this to work for months since iCloud drive came in. It has got much better but it is still not good enough  - or maybe it's me?

All I can suggest is that you open that file on the MBA and save it as a new file, then see if you can open the new one on the iMac.

I have a Mac Air with 10.10 .  Just purchased a HP Laserjet Pro M201dw printer.  I can not get the duplex printing to work in Word or Pages.  It does work for PDF files in Acrobat Pro.  It won't for emails.  In Pages I see two- sided but it is dimmed.  I look at setups and it shows two -sided is off but can't find a way to change this setting.  In the printer setting itself, the duplex box is checked.  Need help.  Did notice the driver only goes up to 10.9 but it says on Apple site of supported printers this one is listed.
Appreciate help in solving this issue.
Thanks in advance for anyone willing to give me some time and assistance.

    Hi there kushfromgbr,
You may find the information in the article below helpful.
    About SyncServices

    OS X Mavericks
OS X Mavericks v10.9 and later do not use SyncServices. Instead, Mavericks supports sharing your information using several network-based and cloud-based solutions. If you want to sync your information across multiple devices and computers, you should use one or more of these methods. These include iCloud, CardDAV servers, CalDAV servers, and servers that utilize the Exchange ActiveSync protocol.
