I am American but live in Italy so have missed an update or two. When I went to the Mac store in the States this summer they told me if I could work well with this outdated version, to leave as is as I had missed two updates. Now I need to I need to be able to download some graphics apps from the Mac store and I do not have that capability with 10.5.8. I need at least 6.6.0 it says.

Make sure your machine supports Snow Leopard requirements. The same with Mountain Lion if you want to move even further up the animal kingdom. -

I have a mid/late-2007 MacBook Pro 3.1 with 6 Gigs of RAM and a 750 Gig 7200rpm hybrid hard drive that is running Mountain Lion just fine. Performance benchmarks with Geekbench are equal between SL and ML, and the Mac runs about 20 F degrees cooler than it did with SL.
You took extremely good care of your almost 7 year old machine and judiciously used it, you added more RAM and a faster cooler hybrid drive to make up for the more feature rich yet slower performing Mountain Lion.
Congratulations, your a conservative.
It would be nice to have some empathy for the people you advise that they also also don't get suddenly ambused by a OS X upgrade that's going to disable software they care about using still. -

First, you need Snow Leopard (10.6): http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A. Then you use Software Update to update it to 10.6.8. When Mountain Lion (10.8) comes out, find it in the Mac App Store.

I have a Mac Book Pro with 10.7.5 and I am trying to upgrade to the free Mavericks but when I click on the download it doesn't do anything. What am I dong wrong?
A couple things to try.
1) Quit the App Store, wait a few minutes, then open it and check the Purchases tab. Is there a progress bar.

We can't tell you what to do. Go to Apple's website and inform yourself of Mountain Lion's features to determine if it would benefit you to upgrade. Upgrading isn't mandatory nor always the best thing to do. If Snow Leopard serves all your needs well, then there is no need to upgrade unless you want certain features that would require upgrading. For example, if you want to use iCloud, then you have to upgrade because iCloud is not available for Snow Leopard. -

Update to Photoshop CC (14.1) crashes

It crashes when you forward a text message to an iMessage recipient. The message still sends, but the iMessage client on the sending device crashes. Any fixes for this, or any way to submit a bug report?
