I have a Mac Book Pro A1226 - can i install Windows 7 on this via boot camp

I have a Mac Book Pro (A1226 -late 2007) and I want to run Windows 7 Ultimate on it via Boot camp.   I am currently running Mac OS X 10.6.8  with Boot camp 3.0.    For some reason I can't seem to install Windows 7 through Boot camp.  Can I even install it on this computer?  Would I be able to run Windows 7 on this computer if I purchased Parallels instead.
Thanks

You should try asking in the Boot Camp forum where the Boot Camp gurus hang out. Your issue has been discussed there many times.

    Erase and Install
    1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU after formatting completes and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
    5. After restart into Snow Leopard download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • How can I partition internal HDD after installing Windows 7 Professional via Boot Camp 4.0?

I recently purchased MacBook Pro 13" (Late 2011) model with OS X v10.7.2 Lion installed. I've upgraded to OS X v10.7.3 Lion and updated all other software.
I require Windows 7 for some Windows based softwares that do not support Mac OS X. Therefore, used Boot Camp 4.0 to install Windows 7 and then tried partitioning single internal HDD  to have 3 partitions (4 total including BOOTCAMP partition). Disk Utility created a 648.5MB partition and then I was able to create 3 other partitions of custom sizes. After applying these changes, I got an error message that said selected volume size is too small. I resized this 648.5MB partion to a custom size and had total 4 partitions, including BOOTCAMP.
After reapplying these changes, BOOTCAMP partition was removed and I was left with only 3 partitions and empty space.
I've tried several different ways to partition the disk, all in vein. Is there a way I can partition my single internal HDD after installing Windows 7 Professional via Boot Camp 4.0?

You can't do what you want with GUI utilities, which will only allow a total of 4 partitions due to the limitation of MBR needed to support Windows. Those four partitions: EFI System (hidden), Mac OS, Recovery HD (hidden), Windows. So with Lion, you only get two visible partitions if you're going to use Windows with BootCamp. You can't make anymore with the included graphical tools.
If you need more partitions you'll need to use something like GPT fdisk (gdisk) to create the partitions in the GPT first. Then add the Windows partition only to the MBR and flag it as bootable. gdisk can be googled and downloaded for Mac OS X off sourceforge. It is not a GUI tool.
    You should read this:

    There are several possibilities.
    1. You do not have contiguous free disk space.
    2. BCA has failed, or you may have a Fusion drive which is causing problems.
    3. You have incorrect permissions on the disk.
    4. Can you boot in OS X Safe Mode - OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? - Apple Support?

Please help.  I have a Mac Book Pro ( late 2007- A1226)  that I want to install Windows 7 ultimate on.  I have boot camp 3.0 and I can set up the partition but when i click start installation, I get a black screen ( for a few seconds) then it goes to a grey window, which alternates between flashing the apple symbol and a circle with line through it.  It will do this for however long I let it go for.
Would it be better for me to buy parallels software than keep persisting with this avenue.

First, make sure you ONLY have the wired Apple Keyboard and wired mouse connected.
You should have BootCamp Asst. 3.3 or 3.4 now I believe is the latest version.
Do you have the W7 disk or ISO download version?
When does the flashing start, after Windows 7 sets the NTFS formating and you click to install?

  • Can't install windows 8.1 with boot camp

I'm trying to install windows 8.1 with boot camp and this is the message I keep getting. I've tried several times and every time I get this. I have a 2015 MacBook Pro. I've tried installing from a usb with ISO and also from a oem windows dvd. Any help would be appreciated.

    Excellent.
Windows installation has four or five reboots, and the Apple BootManager tracks such reboots via the Mac NVRAM, otherwise the next reboot will cause OS X to boot rather than Windows. It is also used to set up some variables used to pass information to the CSM-BIOS layer. If an installation has failed, the variables do not reflect the current and clean state of the machine. A NVRAM reset will re-initialize these variables for the next attempt.

  • Just purchased a Mac Book Pro 15,  can I install IWorks on it?

Am new to the Mac.  I just purchased a new Mac Book Pro 15.  I was wondering if I can install iWorks on the Mac Book Pro.

I believe that Kappy was referring to iPhone and iPad (mobile devices) by the iDevices reference.  There is a different version of KeyNote, Numbers and Pages (the apps that make up iWork) available for the mobile devices.  I have a 13" MacBook Pro and am running iWork '09 but I have visited the Mac App Store and upgraded my version of Pages to Pages 11.  I just ordered a 15" MacBook Pro and can tell you that all of these programs will run on your Mac fine so long as you have the Mac versions and not the mobile device version - this is what Kappy was pointing out to you above.  My assumption is that, since you refer to the suite of apps (iWork), you have the corect version for the MacBook.  If you are referring to the mobile versions because say you bought one of the programs on your iPhone, that version would not be compatible with your MacBook, but, again, you can visit the Mac App Store right on your new MacBook and you can buy and download the relevant program you need right there - be it Pages, Numbers or KeyNote.  Hope this was helpful.  And welcome to the Mac world.  I started with an iPod shuffle, then the Nano, then the Touch, then the iPhone 3Gs, then the 13" MacBook Pro, then the iPad (original), then the iMac, then upgraded the phone to iPhone 4S and now I'm graduating to the 15" MacBook Pro.  Can you tell that consumption of Apples is very addicting?

  • I can't reinstall Windows 7/8 via Boot Camp

    Hi all,
So, I've got an SSD + HD (in optical bay) drive combination in my Mid-2012 MBP. Originally, I had successfully installed Boot Camp onto my HD using Windows 8. Ran without problems. Then, I decided to remap the partitions on it, which messed up the boot record. So, since I didn't do any research, I decided it would be fine to just delete the Windows partition and try to start over.
I've reformatted my HD to a single partition, setup my flash drive via Boot Camp Assistant, and allowed Boot Camp Assistant to repartition my HD for Windows. However, now every time it boots into the Windows Installer, I get the following error.
'Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu.'
This threw me completely off. How can I resolve this issue?
I've even tried to install Windows without the SSD plugged in. It won't give me the error then, but when the installer starts, it'll fail saying the installer is missing files or has corrupt files. This happens with both the flash drive and the DVD.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    wtcnbrwndo4u

After a bit of searching, it appears that Boot Camp can only be installed properly with a single drive in the system. When I think about it, I'm pretty sure I installed Boot Camp before I got my SSD, which makes sense.
So, I think I figured it out. If anyone can confirm, let me know.
    Thanks.

  • Can't install windows it says the boot camp partition is not formatted as a NTFS file structure

Using boot camp assistant it gets to the point of installing windows 7 and it won't because the boot camp partition is not a NTFS file structure. It also seems strange to me that there are 5 partitions would have expect ether 2 or 3. Please help this is very frustrating.
    Thanks in advance

Open, if not so already, the Windows formatter. Identify the BC Windows partition. It will be the one listed with the proper size you created and/or will be labeled as a C: drive. Be careful you select the right one or you may be corrupting the entire drive.
    Format the partition as NTFS.

  • Can't install windows in MBA though boot camp.

    Hi All!
I am trying installing windows 7 through boot camp but got an error saying it only install 64 bit aftr i choose iso file and click next. while i have iso of 64 as well 32 bit mixed up in file. is it file problem or some thing is wrong?

you have to have a REAL Win 7 DVD and or ISO with only the 64bit version on/in it. Your Hacked Windows install ISO file won't work.

  • HT1846 If I have installed windows 7 on my mac book pro, but want to install windows 8 when it comes out, how do I do that?

do I simply put the windows 8 disc in my (Early 2011 edition MBP) disc drive when I'm on my windows side and install to that same partition Bootcamp Already wrote?
Or do I have to go through Bootcamp again?

Fair point. If I had a large enough bank account I surely would be running two separate machines. With the only option being one computer for purchase I went with the Mac and windows dual as you can see by this threads title. For my case it was ideal. For you, no, but in my case there was no better option.
I understand that, and have been there but these machines (and I have a lot of Macs, only 4 PC's) are just revenue streams for me, they do various tasks cheaper than a bunch of dedicated hardware, and I can troubleshoot from a remote location far easier than I can with the dedicated stuff. The simple truth is that for me to dedicate a Mac to running one or two Windows programs entails far more cost than a Windows PC, and there is no advantage to offset the extra cost.

  • I have a Mac Book Pro with a 320 gig hdd and my drive is corrupted and I can't engage it. So I would like to switch to a 1 terabyte drive can this be done?

I have a Mac Book Pro with a 320hdd, 2.33 processor, 8 gigs of RAM and  OS X 10.9.4 .  My hdd crashed and I cannot access it so is it possible to install a 1 terabyte drive with the operating software already installed and also upgrade my RAM to 16 gigs?

If I were you I'd install a small SSD as the boot drive from OWC:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/OWC
Then put a second large conventional drive either in the optical bay (Data Doubler) or in an external.
You don't say which MBP you have: Size, CPU type.
Also when you upgrade you could see if you can salvage your data from your old HD. Can you hear it spin up? If so Data Rescue IV.
