I have a mac book pro   how do a save a file to a usb?

how do a save a file to a usb?

Assuming you are referring to a USB thumb drive, you have to make certain that it is formatted so that the MBP can read and write to it.  Use Disk Utility>Erase to do that and select a format for just Macs or for both Mac and PC.  Once formatted, you may drag and drop to the USB thumb drive icon on your desktop.
Ciao.
