I have a Mac, my wife works on a PC - We have 1 iPod Mini

Is it possible to connect this iPod Mini on my Mac at home and on her PC at work? I mean, to update it in both places?
Thanks.
JP

Yes. You'll need to format the iPod for her PC using the iPod Updater. That will ensure it can be read by both PC and Mac. After that, follow these instructions:

Is a version of Mac OS running on this Mac? Reboot and hold down the option key.

  • I have a Mac running OS X 10.6.8 and have installed all updates and disabled Java Applets.  Do I need to put virus protection on this computer and, if so, any recommendations?

I have a Mac running OS X 10.6.8 and have installed all updates and have disabled Java Applets.  Do I need to install antivirus software and, if so, do you have a recommendation on what works best.

Mac OS X versions 10.6.7 and later have built-in detection of known Mac malware in downloaded files. The recognition database is automatically updated once a day; however, you shouldn't rely on it, because the attackers are always at least a day ahead of the defenders. In most cases, there’s no benefit from any other automated protection against malware.
The most effective defense against malware is your own intelligence. All known malware that affects a fully-updated installation of Mac OS X 10.6 or later takes the form of trojans, which can only work if the victim is duped into running them. If you're smarter than the malware attacker thinks you are, you won't be duped. That means, primarily, that you never install software from an untrustworthy source. How do you know a source is untrustworthy?
Any website that prompts you to install a “codec,” “plug-in,” or “certificate” that comes from that same site, or an unknown site, merely in order to use the site, is untrustworthy.
A web operator who tells you that you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, or that you have won a prize in a contest you never entered, is trying to commit a crime with you as the victim.
“Cracked” versions of commercial software downloaded from a bittorrent are likely to be infected.
Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must be downloaded directly from the developer’s website. No intermediary is acceptable.
Disable Java (not JavaScript) in your web browser(s). Few websites have Java content nowadays, so you won’t be missing much. This setting is mandatory in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier, because Java in those versions has bugs that make it unsafe to use on the Internet. Those bugs will probably never be fixed, because those older operating systems are no longer being maintained by Apple. Migrate to a newer version of the Mac OS as soon as you can.
Follow these guidelines, and you’ll be as safe from malware as you can reasonably be.
Never install any commercial "anti-virus" products for the Mac, as they all do more harm than good. If you need to be able to detect Windows malware in your files, use ClamXav — nothing else.

Platform changes are only supported for the newest versions of applications.  If you still have your Windows machine don't retire it.

  • My iPod was made on Windows, now I have a Mac and can't access the music on the iPod to carry over to new iTunes. What to do?

I am unsure whether it can be reformatted? On the summary when I plug in the ipod (pretty sure it's a nano 4th gen) it shows the format as Windows. However now I have a Mac, I can't access the music library on the ipod, and I'm not game to try 'export' as I don't know what it will do, and I won't sync as I will lose that music library. I am thinking of making an appointment to see the Apple staff at the shop but I'm not sure if I will need to get a new ipod in the end??

  • While synching iPhone, box popped up and said changes will be made to my contacts. If I didnt allow change, it wasnt going to continue to sync. Now half of my contacts are gone and I have all of my wifes contacts. Any way I can get mine back?

While synching my iPhone, a box popped up and said that so many of my contacts are going to change.  That happened before and my contacts and my wifes contacts ended up in each others phones. So we just had to go through and delete the ones we didnt want.  When I did it this time, half of my contacts are gone and I have all of my wifes.  Any way I can get my contacts back?

You should have been sycning them with your computer all along.  Sync them from your computer back to the iphone.

  • Recently had to have our mac hd recovered.  Now I no longer have iPhoto.  Since it came with the mac when we purchased it, how can I get it restored without paying for it?

We recently had to have our mac serviced and restored.  The hard drive was corrupted from an update.  The mac has been restored but we no longer have iPhoto.  The only option I see at Apple support is to purchase it again.  Is there a way I can get it back free of charge, since we already paid for it?

You should be able to to to the App Store and download it again for free.  If often will show a price but when clicked on will revert to Installing and not cost you.

  • Lately my finder closes when I select a shared devices and I can no longer connect to other macs.  Wifi working, TC okay except in finder. Mac Pro running 10.8.5

Lately my finder has been closing when I select a shared device such as another mac, a printer, or the time capsule.   My WiFi connection is working - I can can still backup to the TC and use my wireless printer, but I just can't access them by clicking on them in the finder window.   Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    Thanks for your help
I made no changes to the mini or the server.
The router was shut down then on restart the new (replaced modem) was configured by using another mac on the network (not the file server)
Once the router and modem were online again, other macs running 9.2 were accessing the file server as usual. The mini was not.
I had been working on a file that resides on the server. I was not warned that the router was going to be shut down. When I saved the file I got the beach ball then error message.
It'll be next week before I'm in the office agin. I'll report back then. Thanks

  • My Mac Pro Stopped working, does that mean i have lost my entire library???

Am not sure if it's fixable. Please help.
    Thanks

Depends on what you mean by not working?  If the hard drive has completely died and you do not have a backup, then you may very well have lost everything.  It may still be recoverable by a professional service for a considerable fee though.
If the computer has died from a hardware problem, but the hard drive is still working, then it may be recoverable.  Repair the computer and you may be fine.  Even if the computer is beyond help, you may be able to put the drive in an external enclosure and get the data off it that way.
Without knowing any details at all about what you mean by "not working", there is no way anyone here can say anything definitively.

  • I have a mac pro 2007 model. It appears I have a corrupted sector on my the hadrive tha has my operating system. If I use the install disk that came with is (Tiger) can I still get my lion back.

I have mac pro 2007 model given to me, I updated it to lion about six months ago, and I do not have a time machine.
Lion stopped loading before I get to the login screen,
I tried all the tips, doing a option/shift/v. I noticed several fsk_dsk errors that it could not fix on my boot drive.
Restore would not work either. The only physical copy I have is the install disk that came with the mac. I think it is Tiger.
If I put this operating system on will I be abel to upgrade it to lion, and if so will I have to pay again?

The Lion Recovery Partition has its own index. Your Macintosh HD partition is the one with the troubles.
If Disk Utility cannot fix it, you may need to apply different Utilities, such as Disk Warrior.
Some readers suggest that the best disk repair is to erase the drive and restore it from your Backups.
This might be a good time to consider getting a new drive to have on hand. This would allow you flexibility in copying, fixing, and (if needed) replacing the drive with the problems.

  • Both my husband and I have our Macs backed up on Time Machine. I have a new Mac and want to download my files, etc. from Timeline to my new Mac. How do I ensure that Time Machine downloads only MY files, and not my husband's files?

OS X uses a unique identifier so there will be no problems.
