I'd like to carry my system, applications and files on a portable Thunderbolt ssd drive and boot from it. I have a Mac Pro in the office, iMac at home, a MacBook Air for when I'm on the road, all with TB. Can a single external TB drive boot all three hardware configurations successfully? I've been told that differences in hardware configurations between the systems make this impossible. Is this correct?

A quick install on new hard drive or SSD or 10K and less than an hour to move everything over properly.
YOU looked for a quick fix and found none and all the brick walls.
It is not days of work to do a clean install and migrate.
There are few if any apps that need to be freshly installed either though there are updates needed for them to be compliant, any driver or plugin also and that is done ahead of time with research.
And your backup or clone of your system is taken care of - you leave the old system boot drive 'as is' untouched.
Also, better strategy to move most all your home folder (except for its own ~/Library) to ANOTHER disk drive and not on t he system drive at all.
As for applications on its own drive or 3rd party, beeen there done that, even SSD or 15K SCSI - no benefit in performance or organization. -

I have 2 Mac Pros and 4 Xserve Raids and want to do a quick fix. I want to hook them all to gather so we can share assets for Final Cut Pro. We have a Fiber Switch and tons of cable. I know that I can’t work on the same project file as the other machine. but can we use the same assets? And will the drives just mount to both of our machines if I just connect them all to the Fiber Switch?
We are planning on an Xsan later this year just not any time to do it.
Oh and a little off subject but can an Xserve Raid mount through the Gigabit connection? I want to connect a couple of laptops to edit some XDCAM video at 35Mbs a sec. Or will I have to wait till we put the Xsan in? Or do all the machines hooked though the Xsan have to be Fiber Channel?

You can do this but you're begging for trouble. Really. It could be possible to mount shares as read-only on one machine and writable on the other and at least make resources available but if you really want to do this then a SAN is what you want/need. If you're in too much of a rush to implement a proper SAN system you're also in too much of a rush to reproduce a project file or replace a source file that has been corrupted and lost because someone clicked on the wrong thing. Think about it.

If you're running server you can share out over ether as remote mount via afp or smb but I don't think this is what you're asking. Fibre is the only way to directly mount a drive directly to the desktop and edit video from it if that's what you mean.

XSAN is also *fibre only*. Ether is packeted and out of order and has latency and a bunch of other problems as a streamed data delivery system. You need fibre.

You installed the "DownLite" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "VSearch" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:

You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the DownLite developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. -

When my phone was off it wouldn't connect to iTunes, i got it working now though. I just had to hold my lock button and my home button down long enough. Thanks anyways though!

You need to re install OSX. If you have the dmg file downloaded via torrentz this is how you can create a bootable external HD or Flash drive (8 GB+)

1. go to setting and tap "general"
2. in privacy section see "accept cookies" and select "from visited"
some website manage their domain with cookies, a lot of them. and is more frequently on marketing web sites, like banks, shopping, etc...
be sure to select "fraud warning" always. is up to you to accept cookies or not. affortunatly, u can always turn off and on.

My optical drive will not read any music cds or recognize a blank cd. it might read some data cds. what is wrong with it and how can i fix it?
The optics might be dirty. Try running a cleaning CD through it and see if that makes a difference.
If not, it will have to be replace.

I've gone in and tried to reboot my computer, A FEW TIMES!, with the command + s stuff, and instead of the "root" it says I'm supposed to get, my computer says "shell"...... I don't know if I did something wrong with my computer, but I need to get back on. I called Apple Support, and they told me that since it's out of my warranty, there's nothing they can do. I can pay 40 freaking dollars to talk to someone, and get a 30 day thing, but *** is that gonna do? I just need back on my computer so I can do homework and get my life back to normal.

I have connected to my wireless canon printer but it wont let me print from my mac pro. printer comes up with the message that the paper size doesnt match the printer settings. I have tried to change the settings on the printer but that didnt work. can anyone help
Well... no help was found here.. so I abandoned the wireless- ness of my printer. I bought a
small 10 port hub because only 2 USB ports really isn't enough with wireless mouse, wireless internet
and any kind of printer. I also bought a long USB cable. I now print--wired since this can be done
as an alternative to wireless with this printer. Because I don't want a cable "hanging around"
when the printer is not in use, I simple disconnect it and reconnect when I want to print.
It's a temporary solution others may find helpful as well. Apparently there's been a lot of
confusion and problems getting this printer set up wirelessly with our MacBooks.
Shame on HP for not helping us out! -
