That crash appears to be casued by the Facebook plug-in.
Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts or Users & Groups on 10.7 and 10.8), make a new Library in that account, import some shots and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

It does sound like you downloaded the Windows version. OS X doesn't know what to do with file and just opens it up in Text. You can download the Mac version directly from C/NET - Download.com:

It sounds like you are trying to send emails but for some reason, thousands show activity. I would start by re indexing the mailbox to help troubleshoot the issue:
1.Quit Mail if it’s open.
2.In ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData, delete any file that begins with “Envelope Index,” such as Envelope Index or Envelope Index-shm.To show your home Library folder, hold down the Option key, then in the Finder choose Go > Library.
3.Open Mail.Mail creates new Envelope Index files. This process may take a few minutes, depending on how many messages Mail is reindexing.

If the issue persists, I would next remove the account, restart the computer, and re add the account:
1.Choose Mail > Preferences, then click Accounts.
2.Select an account, then click Remove.

Removing an Exchange or IMAP account doesn’t permanently delete the account’s mailboxes and messages because they’re stored on the mail server. To retrieve the account’s mailboxes and messages from the server, add the account again in Mail.
To add the account again, click the rather than the as described above and retest the issue.

No, it stays with the current OS (iOS5 in this case) - Apple doesn't allow downgrading iOS
If you are syncing to a desktop, you shoudln't lose anything. If you aren't syncing, then that's the first thing you should do, to protect contacts etc.
the other thing is, when the iPad is connected to iTunes, right-click its name in the Devices list and choose Back Up.
That way, when yoiu do the restore, everything should come back as was.

I have an ITunes account. I got it when I got my IPOD. I've thought about upgrading, but I didn't see any reason to buy a newer IPOD because they all come with so much stuff I don't want/need. I realize this. When calling prepaid cus service it only gives you the option to input your #. If you dont the system hangs up on you. When I input my number the system doesnt recognize it and hangs up on me.

Generally once Apple gives the official release date, then Macs have become available for up to date pricing. As long as just the season has been stated, there is no guarantee that Macs purchased during the season in question will get up to date pricing. Thankfully since 10.7's release Apple's full fledged releases have only been $20 USD, and updates are free to the full fledged release. I.e. 10.7.1 to 10.7.5 are updates to 10.7.
10.8.1 to 10.8.4 are updates to 10.8. It was only with 10.6 and earlier the distribution for each full release was at least $99 and up to date were around $20 going back to 10.2. 10.6 is though available on the Apple Store for only $20.
