I have a macbook pro 2011 13" that came with OS Lion (integrated not on a disk). I recently bought OS Mountain Lion of the app store and it is working fine. However I was a bit dissapointed in the battery so I decided to try and downgrade and completely failed, I froze the computer and when I restarted it it did not work. I went into recovery system and erased my disk and all that and went to re-download my OS. I was expecting to get the option to re-download Lion but instead I could only re-download Mountain Lion.
My question is since my computer originally came with Lion can I reset my computer so I get OS Lion back instead of OS Mountain Lion?

Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

I have a MacBook Pro (purchased in 2011) with OS X Lion 10.7.4. I'm using Microsoft Office 2011 and cannot open older PowerPoint Files (non .pptx). It will always open the same .pptx file and then the machine hangs up and just keeps spinning.
Thank you - that all makes sense. It is, indeed, exactly what I did when I upgraded.
I'm also writing this on the machine that crashed a few minutes ago (I posted the crash in another thread). I got back with a 'safe boot' - as I have done a few times before.
I've also de-installed little snitch (and then done a safe-boot & then re-boot ) since that seemed involved. I de-installed Adobe flash, since that seemed to be a problem - I then re-installed the later, apparently fixed, flash. The most recent crashes don't seeme to have a problem with flash any more.
I've posted the various ( generally different ) crashes. I also posted a summary of the similar lines that turn up in most of the crashes.
Unfortuantely, I'm actually trying to use the machine to meet some urgent deadlines and all this is not making it at all easy.
I had had great hopes for 10.7.2 - I thought that the crashes must be pretty common, so would have a common aetiology. There do seem to have been some fundamental changes to the file sytem and to the video interface (that seems to cause problems to brand new iMacs as well as to my 2009 iMac). -
Dear all, I have a MacBook Pro bought in April 2011. Last April, it got stuck while the wheel was spinning and I had to force it shut. That cost me my hard drive. Now, it's stuck again. I tried esc, cmd+tab, moving the trackpad on the apple, but no. HELP!

thank you for your prompt reply. After I sent the email, I left the wheel spinning to see if it would eventually stop. It didn't, but after a while the screen turned blue, so I decided to switch everything off with a forced shut-down. I could not restart with the OS DVDs because I am currently away from home, but fortunately everything was more or less fine after restarting. It then got stuck again, I forced it shut again, restarted again, and now it seem to work but I won't overdo it and will switch off smoothly after writing this (unless it gets stuck again). Last April I have replaced the HD, so it's now just under 6 months old. And, of course, since the crash occurred when I was abroad and had backed up just before I left, I have lost only a few days' work. Still, and I know this will make me hugely unpopular here, with my 5 previous laptops running on MS Windows I never had a problem. Which does not mean I loved the OS, or I would not have switched to Mac.
Anyway, and this is the main reason for this message, thank you very much again for your speedy intervention.

After upgrading to Yosemite, my MacBook Pro now requires me to enter a password whenever I start up my computer. I want to eliminate this step and to go back to the ability to reboot and begin using without a login. How do I accomplish this?
Hightlight Login Option. This will bring up the window showing Automatic login.
Please post a pic of your window if Automatic login is missing. Make sure your personal info is not showing. -
I have a Macbook Pro purchased brand new. I take high quality pictures for customers, these display perfect on my laptop but appear CORRUPT on a USB stick. What is causing this? I can't seem to fix this issue. PLEASE HELP!!

On the built-in keyboard, press and hold the Command (⌘), Option (⌥), P, and R keys before the gray screen appears.
Continue to hold down the keys until the computer restarts and you hear the startup chime for the second time.
Release the keys on the built-in keyboard.

I am new to working with pdf. I am trying to fill out a form that was attached to a website. I have a Macbook Pro and I am trying to learn Acrobat. How do I get the form to accept my input?
If there are Acrobat PDF form fields, not jus a space for a form field, then you will have to add them. It would be better to ask the provider of the form to add the fields. If you cannot add the fields, then you can use the add text feature.
Have you looked in the "Tools" panel for the "Forms" category?

My laptop a macbook pro is my only connection with the outside world, I would like to be able if possible to watch or stream video content to my bigscreen tv as I easily can via the 1080 connection available on the two of them.
But I would like to be able to keep the video playing on the external TV screen and use the computer screen to view other content on the web simultainously is that macbook pro posterous or MB Propetually possible?

On the screen containing your menu bar, you should now see a Displays preference dialog box with an "Arrangement" tab in it. Click the Arrangement tab. Uncheck the box for "Mirror Displays," or make sure it is already unchecked. In the image within the preferences dialog box you should see two adjoining blue rectangles representing your two screens. A white bar on one representes the menu bar and indicates that that is the primary display. The larger rectangle represents your TV screen. If it's on the right side of the smaller rectangle representing your MBP's screen, then dragging a window off the right side of the built-in screen will move the window onto the TV.
Now open any application window — a web browser window, for example — and drag it by its title bar to move it off the edge of your built-in screen onto the TV screen. Got that? You can do the same thing with any other window, including a DVD Player or VLC window containing a movie that you want to watch.
Things to note: In this dual-display mode, which is called Extended Desktop mode, the menu bar and Dock will always appear on only one of the screens, and you can choose which one they appear on by dragging the white bar representing the menu bar from one rectangle to the other in the System Prefs > Displays > Arrangement tab. You can also set the resolutions of the two screens independently of each other. The highest available resolution on each screen will always provide the sharpest image. -
I just bought a late 2013 macbook pro retina 13" a few days ago. I am trying to transfer all my music from my old Dell laptop. I formatted by 1TB Western Digital MyPassport to exFAT to allow read and write on both operating systems. The 1TB WD My Passport is recognised by both my Dell and iMac but not my new macbook pro retina 13 (late 2013). My 1TB WD My Passport is USB 3.0 with USB 2.0 backward compatability. I also just bought a 2TB Seagate Desktop Backup Plus (which is powered) for backing up and extra file storage, THIS WORKS! I don't understand how this works on my macbook pro but my 1TB western digital my passport doesn't. PLEASE HELP!! I have done full formats as well (not quick ones) which take nearly 8 hours. PLEASE HELP
Is there a pattern to the time of day or other detail that may be
traced back to a OS X system cause of this odd phenomenon?
Are there any copies of system files on any of the attached USB
external drives? Any libraries, such as iTunes, iPhoto, etc?
Once the drives are indexed by Spotlight, are their permissions
ignored by the OS X? Content, if neutral, should not affect the
wake or sleep cycle; especially if they're ignored by the OS X.
Could there be a bad cable or other component? If so that would
be a difficult process of elimination to detect it. Usually replacing
most suspect components in the USB stream (external to Macs)
is a rote way to mechanically test that idea; & not 100% sure.
Does the equipment all have a good ground to the utility or house
electrical field? An intermittent ground may affect more than sleep.
Hard to say at this point. Maybe a late-night talk radio guru on
remote viewing could peer into your situation and sleuth it out?
Sorry to have run out of ideas, but the process must be electrical
& mechanical to some extent. - Or perhaps odd software inspired.
Do you have any phone-home spyware items inside, just jumping
at the chance to spill your information? Little Snitch may help.
PS: Perhaps the computer needs to go into Apple & have a genius
or product specialist at AASP test the unit thoroughly... BlueTooth?

After upgrading to Yosemite, If i plug in my Zte MF 820 LTE modem into my Macbook Pro USB socket or a Thunderbolt USB Ethernet converter/ into my Notebook, it slow down dramatically the system, unusable, need to reboot and unplug the USB moderm or Thunderbolt interface. So it does work only without any plug in device..!?

Now click the little phone in the menubar and choose “Connect” from the dropdown.

MacBook Pro 13" 2011 - Won't let me use 2 USB ports at the same **** time.
I'm trying to use 2 usb driven hardware devices at the same time and it won't let me - one of them always disconnects (usually the 2nd port) ...even though both devices work on other macbooks ive used lately..
Is it possible one of them isnt properly powered? Is there any way of "turning" them both on?
Sorry I sound so novice, i've had macs for 10+ years but i've never had this problem before...USB ports on a computer have always had a limited amount of power. The least expensive solution is to get a powered USB hub, meaning it has a separate power supply. The hub will provide enough power to keep things running.
It will also make your extenal hard drives behave better it they are USB-powered.

Why does my MacBook Pro OS X show a different file size than previous models, of the same folder?
I'm copying a folder from the server to burn to disc from my MacBook Pro OS X 10.6.8, then tried to burn it to disc using Toast Titanium.
It gave an error saying it's too big: 4.7 GB, then when we checked from a previous model MacBook Pro OS X 10.5.8 and it was 4.3 GB.
How is this possible?Apple changed the way file sizes are reported between Leopard and Snow Leopard. Leopard saw 1024 bytes as a kilobyte, 1024 KB as a megabyte, and 1024 MB as a gigabyte: the traditional binary-numeral nomenclature used for decades in the computer industry. But consumers didn't understand that, and always wondered why a hard drive with, say, 250,000,000,000 bytes of storage space on it was reported to contain 232 GB instead of 250. So to cater to a dumbed-down public, in Snow Leopard and Lion, 1000 bytes is a KB, 1000 KB is a MB, and 1000 MB is a GB: decimal nomenclature. Consequently, SL and Lion report larger file sizes than older versions of OS X for the same files and folders.
