I have a macbook pro 13" early 2011 and i need to upgrade the ram
my plan is to upgrade to a ssd and upgrade the ram but i'm not sure what kind of ram (pc3-8500/10600/10660/10666/12800) and how much i can put in it..
on apples website it says i can upgrade to a maximum of gb of ram http://support.apple.com/kb/SP619?viewlocale=no_NO my mactracker software says this:
Maximum Memory
16 GB (Actual) 8 GB (Apple)
so how much ram can i install, and what kind of ram.. i know it has to be DDR3....
Apple only supports 8 GB, but you can install 16 GB on your computer. You have to buy SDRAM DDR3 1333 MHz. You can buy RAM on OWC > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3_133 3MHz_SDRAM

I own a MacBook Pro 15-inch early 2011 and I want to upgrade the ram to 16 or 8gb is it ok to use a corsair brand memory?
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Of course. Corsair RAM is compatible with your Mac and the Early 2011 MacBook Pro supports 16 GB of memory. Make sure you buy the correct memory for your MacBook Pro. See > http://www.corsair.com/us/memory-by-product-family/mac-memory-upgrades.html -
I currently have a MacBook Pro 17in (Early 2011) and it Turns Off randomly.
I currently have a MacBook Pro 17 inch (Early 2011). Whenever I remove the power cord from my Mac it will automatically/randomly turn off. I though that it was a software problem so I reformated my entire drive and reinstalled the OS. I also have it running the current OS and have gotten all the updates. However my laptop still turns off whenever I remove the power cord. I'm not sure what to do next.
p.s. I have googled some way to fix this "problem" such as turning the computer off and waiting for 15 seconds with the power cord remove but still my MacBook Pro has the same symtoms.
Is it a problem with my Mac? Is it fixable?

Even though you are out of warrenty they may still have a look at this for you in the store as Apple are renowned for great aftercare . -
i have a macbook pro 13" early 2011 version and what to install windows 7 on it via bootcamp but not sure that whether to install x64 or x86 version? which one will work better
There is no need for anyone to use 32-bit version anymore.
Retail comes with both. Or you can save on just buying 64-bit System Builder disc.
Better support for today's hardware with larger video graphic memory and systems.
Better memory management. -
I have a MacBook Pro 13 early 2011. I can't use Gmail because it says my version of Safari (5.1.7 (7534.57.7) is not compatible. What can I do?
Niel, I found a way to download Safari 6.1.6 but it failed because the installer couldn't create the folder '/var/folders/lg/pqypcsnn715btrs106b9crpr0000gn/T//Install.3334NgcMxu"

I've been trying to download an upgrade to the OS on my MacBook for a while, and now I've upgraded my RAM to 4GB (Which was the only specification my Mac did not meet to upgrade to OS X Yosemite), and I would like to know if the App Store will allow me to download the upgrade, before removing everything from my computer, and upgrading to fresh install of Yosemite (Since I will probably create a bootable drive, and wipe my hard drive). I'm running OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard currently, with 4GB of RAM.

How come? My MacBook is up to the specifications on the Apple Website.
Actually, it's not. Models that can run Yosemite are:
Before you install Yosemite, make sure you have one of these Macs:
iMac (Mid-2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
Xserve (Early 2009)
Yours isn't one of those. The newest OS your Mac can support is Lion (10.7.x)

What about using MLPostFactor?
Not familiar with this (looks like it was, originally, designed as a work-around to allow unsupported Macs to run Mountain Lion). If it does work with Yosemite, I can't imagine it would work well enough to make it worth the effort. Simply put, your hardware is too old and isn't designed to, optimally, handle the current OS. -
I cannot get it too use entire screen. I have 3-4 inches on both sides. I did not buy a 29inch monitor to not use all of it
MikeD304,
unless your MacBook Pro’s GPU supports a resolution with a 21:9 proportion, it won’t completely fill the 21:9 monitor without distortion.
(Here’s a hint: no MacBook Pro GPU supports a resolution with a 21:9 proportion.) -

Got 16GB here and it's sweet, just waiting for a large SSD to come down in price.

Methinks if you do a bit more research and look on NewEgg you can pick up a faster SSD for same coin or a bit more. -

1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless. -

My Mac won't start, all it does is beep and I don't know what's wrong
Most likely a RAM issue.
How many beeps?
Click here > Power On Self-Test Beep Definition - Part 2
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable -
MacBook Pro 17" Early 2011 Model: Auto Shutdown/Restart Problem
Hey guys!
This is my first time to sign in, join the community, and ask a question or create a discussion. FYI, I really have little knowledge on tech stuff so please bear with me. Here's my problem, and I hope you can give out your suggestions:
I have a MacBook Pro 17" Early 2011 Model which I have upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion.
A month or two ago, it had started shutting down or restarting at random times. As time passed, this problem became more frequent.
I finally decided to have it checked at Digital Hub, a licensed Apple distributor. After almost a week, they've finally diagnosed that the problem is with my battery. I got my MacBook pro back around 2 (two) weeks ago, and ever since then I had to use an outlet in order for it and myself to work properly. Right now, I'm still saving up to purchase new batteries.
Recently, however, I've noticed that my MacBook Pro auto restarts even when plugged. Take note, RESTART and no longer shutting down completely. Upon further trials, I've finally concluded that it does so only during the use of heavy programs such as Diablo 3, Final Cut Pro X, and when rendering with iMovie. I have yet to try with Adobe products, particularly with Lightroom and Photoshop, and see if it does the same. But more or less, that's what I've noticed so far.
Given that I still haven't purchased the battery yet, I know it's still vague to know the real probelm/solution. But with the given situations, what are you views on this matter? Please let me know. It'd be of great help. Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon!

(Note, I'm a starting out Multimedia Arts Student and photographer. I have little knowledge of the industry for now, but I'm willing to learn. So please forgive me if I don't understand your suggestions at once if they are very in depth or technical.)Thanks for taking so much time in helping me.
Just an update:
2 loops/passes done - no errors.
Called up Digital Hub and talked to the technician, he says there are 3 possible problems:
1. Battery (which is still inside the laptop) may cause some disturbances with the electric current
2. Software related - most likely re-formatting may be needed
3. Video card may have failed, which means complete change of the logic board ----> worst case
I'm crossing my fingers that it's either of the first two. -
SSD-problem with MacBook Pro 13" (Early 2011)
Hi there,
I've tried to use two different SSDs in my MacBook Pro 13" (early 2011). The first one (Samsung 840 Series, 500GB) crashed after two days: the beachball appeared and after a restart there was this question mark-symbol on my screen: no system found. Had to send this SSD back to Amazon. A few days later I've bought a new one, a SanDisk Extreme with 450GB. I've used it for two days, then my system crashed again and after a restart of my Mac I couldn't get any further than to the grey apple-symbol. Even the recovery partition didn't work anymore. Does anyone of you have the same problem with his (or her) MacBook Pro 13" (early 2011) - and any ideas for a solution?
Thanks for your answers!
