I have a macbook pro and I downloaded an ebook from the library, it is zipped and I cannot unzip. Downloaded software such unarchiver, no go. please help.
I cannot open a zip file on my macbook pro, it is a download from the public library(ebook) I tried to download unarchive and others like it and no dice. Please can someone help me, I need step by step instructions, still learning on my mac. Thanks so much:)

Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
OR
Reinstall Snow Leopard without erasing the drive
Do the following:
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/. -
I downloaded an ebook from the library. It is in a zipped format. How do I unzip it?

Since you said it was zipped I assumed it really was. .odm is not .zip
Definitely contact your librarian or read their web site (my library provides details on what is required for electronic media). Usually e-books from a library require a special reader and only that reader will open the files (because access is highly regulated). Sometimes you cannot open them on a Mac at all, though they are getting a bit better about that.
You might want to be clearer in future posts. You posted this in an Intel Mac hardware forum. It is really a software question. Your profile says you are running OS 10.3.9 but no Intel machine can run that. It all just makes it harder to figure out what you need to get the files to work. -
I have a Macbook Pro (2013) OS 10.8.1. Moved into a university house and need to use ethernet cable. Bought the Thunderbold connection but when I try to use the ethernet with it a webpage comes up saying Wireless Setup and Router Setup? I have previously used ethernets in similar situations and never had to input information like this?
I have tried to turn of the wi-fi but that doesn't work either. I think it could be a something to do with the internet provider because virginmedia comes up on the webpage. This is what comes up:

I have downloaded ADE 3 on my macbook. It did recognize my Aluratek Libre the first time I used it but now it does not. I plug my libre in start ADE and the Libre does not show up for me to transfer my ebooks from the library to my libre. Help pls
If you have iTunes 11 on your computer then you can enable the left-hand sidebar on it via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC - when connected (and if your computer's iTunes is up-to-date) your iPad should then appear on that sidebar under a 'Devices' heading :
If you select the iPad on that sidebar you can then use the Movies tab on the right-hand side of the iTunes screen to select and sync that film to your iPad's Videos app.

I am trying to instal the latest version of iTunes onto my MacBook Pro, but my computer has been "configuring" the installation since 5pm yesterday and now it is 10:30am. It has never done this before. Can anybody help me out?

This is a copy of ONEof the keys in the registry I changed as told by Apple support today. I also have changed others as instructed by GEAR software support to manually delete GEAR drivers (that I had installed but couldn't delete some of the others they mentioned from Windows system 32. Then some bright spark at work told me I need the Gear drivers so I downloaded the software and installed again.

I am getting an error message "Adobe_unable to download, license server communications problem, e_act_not_ready". I have downloaded Adobe Digital Editions and have authenticated the computer, but cannot download a book from the library. What should I do?

Hi. I just downloaded "angry birds" from the iTunes store. It says it was successfully downloaded and that I can use it on the two mac products I have. I can see an icon for it in the finder on the mac, but I can't figure out how to play the game. Anyone?

E_auth_bad_device_key_or_PKCS12I downloaded Blue Fire Reader and it requested an adobe id. I clicked on the link that was in the error message stated http//adeactivateadobe.com. Found out that if the date and time on my Ipad is wrong that it won't let me download a book. I was off 5 hours. I reset my clock settings and adobe id let me download a book from the library. I am back to using Overdrive and adobe again on my ipad.

When I download audio books from the library I can't find them in my itunes files. All of the chapters do not transfer to my itouch even though they all were downloaded.
I finally figured it out! On the book page of itunes I went to preferences and then import settings and changed the settings from aac to mp3 and when I went back to the page there was my itouch and clicked on it and then books and there were all my books and files! deleted 3 chapters that were greyed out and transfered them again and it worked. Thank you for your help.
