I have had my Mac approx. a year. PowerPoint has is not working since a recent update. I am not sure which one because I don't use it very much. I believe it was since the Yosemite update. I close a file and the next time I open Powerpoint it is still open. Also when files are closed the screen will be completely white. No headings, just white. If a file comes back it does not allow me to access the headings and when I can a lot of the choices just don't do anything.
I end up with an error message. Does anybody have similar problems? Can anybody help me?

Have you enabled Dictation in the System Preferences?
Enable it, and select a keyboard shortcut.
Dictation will become active, when the cursor is inside a textfield in a document and you type the keyboard shortcut, e.g.function key twice.

Reinstall Snow Leopard without erasing the drive
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

I purchased Pages, Numbers and Keynote for my MacBook Pro and iPad last year. I just purchased a new iMac for my wife and it came with iWorks. When I try to save a document on the iMac it tells me I must buy an iWorks serial number, but the App Store shows the applications as installed and will not process the request. How do I correct?

Did you pay for iWorks to come preinstalled on the iMac? Because it sounds like what you have is a trial version, which is why it is stating that you need to buy a serial number.
I suggest that you delete the entire trial iWorks suite. Once they are safely in the Trash where the Mac App Store can't see them, you can sign into your account on the MAS and download the MAS versions that you own a license to use.

Airdrop between Macbook Pro and iPhone 5 not working

Hi, I'm trying to use Airdrop between my Macbook Pro 17" (early 2009) running OS Yosemite, and my iPhone 5 running IOS 8.0.2, but it is not working.
All the specs on both of my laptop and iPhone seem to be ok, as Apple says in the System Requirements.
I've verified that Airdrop works fine betwen my Macbook Pro and other Mac laptops, but not with my iPhone.
I've all tried, but it's impossible, it doesn't work, and it should work.
I attach a screenshot showing the specs of my Macbook Pro, as well as the System Requirements.

If it's happening on all the apps that you've downloaded from the App Store, but not the Apple built-in ones, then try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted.
If it's happening on all apps including Apple's, then try closing them all completely and then see if they work when you re-open them : from the home screen (i.e.not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Oops, my bad. The repair disk permissions in Disk Utility doesn't actually fix the User home folders. To do that boot into the recovery partition and when the recovery desktop appears select Utilities -> Terminal. Enter “resetpassword” and press return - don't worry you're not actually going to reset your password!
Ensure that your username is selected from the “Select user account” menu, then under “Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs” click the “Reset” button.
Click on the Apple menu and restart your computer.

If you have separate accounts then you have to be authorized to use the content purchased from another account.

the last version of Mac OS X which supported running PowerPC apps on Intel Macs was Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). If you’d like to play this PowerPC game on your Intel MacBook Pro, then you’ll need to install Snow Leopard on it and boot into Snow Leopard. (Note that the last MacBook Pro which natively supported Snow Leopard was the Early 2011 model.)
The game was almost certainly published before Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) was released, so back then, all versions of “Mac OS X 10.3 or higher” would have supported running that PowerPC game.
