I was going on a road trip over the weekend with friends and for something to watch, I tried pirating a movie. It only had around 10 leachers/seeders so wasn't downloading that fast. So I decided not to bother and stopped the download. Now everytime I click on a webpage, Mackeeper pops up in another window, words are highlighted and have ads on them, and there are ads all over the page.
I am wanting to sell the macbook because its older and has the C2D processor, but, I don't want to give the new owner a computer with a bunch of Malware/Adware/Trojans
What can I do to get rid of them?

Sounds like you have installed some kind of adware, possibly more than one. This is very common when downloading illegal content online.
My Adware Removal Guide will help you remove any known adware. However, malware is also a concern when dealing with illegal downloads. It's less likely that you have any actual malware, but the only way you can be sure that you're not infected with malware would be to erase the hard drive and reinstall the system.
As for how to reinstall the system properly in this case, see How to reinstall Mac OS X from scratch. Note that you will have to reinstall Microsoft Office, so be sure that you have the serial number handy.

First, reboot. That will temporarily free up some space. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB free for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data.
Use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To really see everything, you have to run it as root.
First, back up all data if you haven't already done so. No matter what happens, you should be able to restore your system to the state it was in at the time of that backup.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
After installing ODS in the Applications folder, drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. When you're done with it, quit it and also quit Terminal.

If you used Boot Camp to install Windows you may use Boot Camp to remove it and return your drive to as it was.

First, don't let your sister do that with your machine anymore. That sort of thing is one of those hazardous activities that could invite some rare Mac malware onto your machine. If you have Java enabled in your web browser, you could be infected with something. That's unlikely, but not impossible.
That said, it's quite unlikely that the performance problems you're having are malware-related. Look elsewhere for a solution to your performance issues. Further, erasing the hard drive and reinstalling the system from scratch may or may not help, depending on what the cause is. Try going through all the suggestions in my Mac Performance Guide first. If none of those help, then it may be time to try a clean reinstall.

How can I get rid of the malware on my macbook air?

I have not downloaded any suspicious programs or clicked on any links but suddenly today, ads keep popping up on google and on websites like Tumblr, Facebook, etc. Pictures are even turning to ads, like the picture gets replaced with an ad for a farm game. There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Step 1
From the Safari menu bar, select
          Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
          Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)

Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Internet criminal behind VSearch has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

TS1702 After downloading iOS7, I have an app that won't open and won't delete. How can I get rid of it?

Recently updated to ios7 and then updated some apps. A few of them have, theoretically, updated. I can only open them from the App Store by clicking open (where it used to say install and now it says open). However, the actual app on the home screens are shaded and say "Waiting..." as if they are still currently downloading. It has been two days. I tried installing a free app (as some have suggested), this did not work. I tried turning phone on and off. I cannot delete these apps form my phone because when you hold down to get the jiggly apps and then the little "x" to click to close/delete the app, these apps don't have the "x."

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. Step 1 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.” While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin. Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)? After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it. *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing. Step 2 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. Bearing in mind that 'Other' consists of emails, contacts, appointments, data, document files, OSX and its libraries and more, I would be very careful what you delete. It is not just backup, it is your stuff.

Can't get rid of virus/malware/infection

I have a virus/malware/infection that Office Max hasn't been able to get rid of and I purchased McAfee 2012 Antivirus Plus and even contacted McAfee for help. they want more money and I have already spent $173 and can't spend anymore.
I have all the programs needed for reloading the harddrive. I purchased all the programs a few years ago.

Hi,
These files would appear to relate to a Malware infection - the reason the specific DLLs cannot be loaded may well be because your existing security software has already removed them.
Try the following.
On another PC, follow the procedure on the link below to create a bootable CD which you can use to scan your computer and hopefully remove the Malware.

When this has completed, boot into Windows, then download and install the free versions of MBAM and SUPERAntiSpyware on the links below.

SUPERAntiSpyware
When installed, run full scans with both these utilities - if any malware is detected, remove/quarantine it and run the scan again until both applications come back clean.
If the above doesn't help, post back with the following.
1. The full Model No. and Product No. of the notebook ( from the service tag underneath your notebook ) - see Here for a further explanation.
2. The full version of the operating system you are using ( ie Windows 7 32bit ).

"MacKeeper" is a scam with only one useful feature: it deletes itself.
First, back up all data.
Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions.
If you have incompletely removed MacKeeper—for example, by dragging the application to the Trash and immediately emptying—then you'll have to reinstall it and start over.
IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls an “encryption” feature. In my tests, I didn't try to verify what this feature really does. If you used it to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall, or (preferably) restore the files from backups made before they were “encrypted.” As the developer is not trustworthy, you should assume that the "decrypted" files are corrupt unless proven otherwise.
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A. The "MacKeeper" application is in the folder that opens. Quit it if it's running, then drag it to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your login password. Click the Uninstall MacKeeper button in the dialog that appears. All the other functional components of the software will be deleted. Restart the computer and empty the Trash.
☞ Quit MacKeeper before dragging it to the Trash.
☞ Let MacKeeper delete its other components before you empty the Trash.
☞ Don't try to drag the MacKeeper Dock icon to the Trash.
☞ Don't try to remove MacKeeper while running in safe mode.
